After battling depression for years, I finally understand what this song is about on a level I never had in the past. Lucifer Is in all of us, When we let the darkness take over and we become overwhelmed with sadness we become like this character. It's not a scary thing or demonic thing, its a tragic thing. Lucifer is a tragic character lonely and an outcast. It's about overcoming your negative feelings and not letting them hold you down, but also understanding negative feelings are necessary for positive feelings to exist. "nothing's going to stop me from floating"

What a talented lady! I find it hilarious the way people have labelled her as a satanist - because she references Lucifer. It's like saying that Elvis was a cobbler because he sang about Blue Suede Shoes!

If you would understand the yin and yang symbol you would know that there is a good and a evil force in this universe. Thats a fact. And together it is complete. I think an artist like Tori Amos understands this much better than most other people. She is neither a satanist nor a christian she just sees the whole thing! I have also heard interviews of her where she said that she loves Jesus. I think her spirituality is just too complex for some people.

It took me long time to really understand the explanation of the song (i'm Spanish), but finally got it. Laughed FOR DAYS! And BTW this song i skip it everytime i listen to BFP. But this version is WAY, WAY better than the one on the album. I SO LOVE this episode of Storytellers. Tori should do another one about her new songs. HOW COOL WOULD IT BE??

And in any case, this song IS NOT ABOUT the Christian concept of Satan. It's about the cultural concept of Lucifer-as-outcast, a being who is sick of being blamed for everything. Tori Amos is a good friend of Neil Gaiman, who wrote about a Lucifer who got fed up and left Hell. Don't be deceived. Great tune. Seductive woman. Seductive lyrics. Lucifer is the prince of darkness but he comes in the light. He gave me 20 or so dark songs and I was 3/4 of the way through recording and filming a concept album. I got very sick. He is NOT my father any more. He is a thief, a destroyer and a liar. Wise up. Jesus saves. It's actually true. By the way great song .... just like mine were he gave me. Petty I had to throw them all away. She should too. They are from Hell.

I think what you say is true, even though I probably haven't been touched by Jesus in the way other christians have, but if people can be touched by Jesus and saved, I think that's the best thing ever. Also, I love this song.
