    I have been putting up with this fault on my Roland kit for over a year now. Assumed I was going to have to cough up for a new pedal or parts for it, but been putting it off!
    Had not previously thought RUclips would have anything about this.
    Absolutely spot on repair...No more pressing HH foot hard in to floor to get the closed 'sound...and at no cost!
    Thanks for putting it out there.

    Ken, I have to admit, I never quite know what to expect from you especially on your alternative Tuesday. No matter what the project I will tune in and watch. I also know that once you have an error and get the laughs or giggles it can be hard to get serious again. Enjoyed the show

      Thanks for the kind words Paul. I love having a forum where I can post whatever I like just for the fun of posting and that is what Alternative Tuesdays is all about. Glad that you enjoyed the show and I'm also glad that you lasted through to the end to enjoy the blooper clip. Thanks for tuning in sir. Always great to hear you opinions on the show.

    Great video. I just followed your advise and fixed my pedal in 10 mins.Been putting up with my hitats open for years
    I used a knife as I didn't have a saw. I used rubber grease for the lube
    Thanks again

    I was about to buy a brand new pedal when I saw your video. THANKS! It now works a treat. After the repair, I even had to lower the HH Pedal Volume from 100 to 40 in the parameters of each Kit.

      @acutabove_woodworkings  4 года назад

      Mine has been working flawlessly ever since but I am sure that there will be a time when it messes up again. At least for now, it has prevented the cost of a new pedal and has given an extended life to the one I have. Glad that the video was able to help you. Thanks for tuning in and taking the time to leave the comment. I appreciate it.

    My pedal had the same issue. Was originally thinking it was a problem with the sensor so I was looking up replacement parts on Amazon, and videos on RUclips to see how difficult it was to replace. Found this video instead and realized that it was the rubber foot, not the sensor that was causing the problem. Tried scoring as shown in the video and worked like a charm! Thanks for uploading this, saved me time and money!

    Thanks! That fixed my pedal. I also boiled it first (turned the fire off before boiling point) for 10 minutes. It made the rubber softer and easier to cut. Thanks again!

    I looked up a vid to replace the rubber actuator and it required taking off the whole pedal with allen key, drum key etc. . This just showed me to flip upside down and a simple screwdriver. Whole thing done in 5 mins. Genius. OH and to point out that apparently just putting the actuator in boiling water also sorts it out, I'd already bought my new one so didn't bother testing this theory. THANK YOU!

    Awesome, thank you so much!
    To do something for my long time faulty pedal was a last minute decision this morning.
    First I was going to buy a new actuator, then I saw this video and the comments and I've decided to give it a go.
    So far I've only done the rubber scoring and it's already working.
    I'll go out to get some silicone grease now.
    Thank you so much, a great idea that works well.

    I got a new rubber and was still having the same problem before I put the supplied white grease (silicone?) on the top of the rubber where the L bracket puts downward pressure on the rubber. Good as gold! Came out and tried it the next morning and had all the same issues. The white silicone grease had evaporated or rubbed off by the looks and just left a dry film. I used some vaseline this time on the top of the rubber and under the L bracket and so far for a couple of weeks its been great. Easy enough to apply more even without removing the housing. I wonder how much of the issues with these pedals are due to lubrication and not the stiffness of the rubber. I also used the little sticky back felt pad on the end of the sensor method to get a much louder, effortless and definite "Chick" sound. very worthwhile mod.

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  Год назад

      I'm glad that you were able to get your pedal working again Craig. I haven't heard of the sticky pad to increase the volume. I'll have to check that out. The only issue with vaseline, is that petroleum jelly dissolves rubber over time. This is the reason that people use petroleum jelly in the first place to try and soften the rubber. It eats away the outer layer and leaves the softer rubber exposed. I hope your mod continues to work. Thanks for tuning in and for chiming in with your comment. It's very much appreciated. Happy drumming.

      I'm not sure of a fix for that Ryan. I guess it is possible that over time, the pads and sensor could wear out. Low volume possible solution: First, Thanks Kenny for the cut solution. 11 year old td-9 set. It probably is something like the triggers and rubber are aging and I noticed the volume of my two cy-8 cymbals are lower than the 3 trigger ride cymbal. not sure if that is normal or happened over time maybe. Option 1: Increase sensitivity or volume settings by going to settings - trig - basic or advanced. Option 2: Or lower the volume of all the other pads so that you have more volume room for the pad trigger that is not loud enough. Then raise overall mixer volume. If not enough volume and all you internal and external volume's are maxed, you would need an amp of some kind or headphones that have a lower ohm spec I think.
      I have shure s846 with 9ohms and I only need to put edrum volume to mid range where my denon over the ear headphones almost need to be maxed. I am very careful to try to keep volume levels low while enjoyable as I am noticing more often my tinnitus ringing in my left ear, age 35. I hope it doesn't get worse or there are scientific solutions for tinnitus in the future.

    To soften the rubber back to a pliable state, you can soak the rubber actuator in 1 part wintergreen oil (can be found as Methyl Salicylate on amazon) and 3 parts isopropyl alcohol. The premixed wintergreen alcohol will not work- you have to use pure wintergreen oil because the premixed stuff you can buy at the drugstore is not concentrated enough with wintergreen. Let it soak no more than 12 hours and then remove. The rubber will be a lot softer and stay that way. This is if you don't want to have to cut into the part like in this video, both both solutions work!
