CORE and FREEDOM themes sound strangely good together (DELTARUNE and UNDERTALE)

- Today I found that the main bassline in CORE and the FREEDOM theme (also sometimes called the secret boss theme), work really well together (with a wee bit of transposition).
There is always the possibility that this is a complete coincidence, just another content starved DELTARUNE fan grasping for clues. I however believe there is some importance to this. With W.D. GASTER's UNDENIABLE connection to both the CORE and secret bosses, I think this mashup of themes could be used in music in a later chapter, when he inevitably appears.

This is going to be the Deltatraveler CORE section i am calling it
unfortunately, we already know the music for that section (or the LOSTCORE as it’s called ingame) is just CORE slowed down (unless they retcon it)

Also circus dialtone and lantern sound like parts of complete melody.
Lantern is just Rude Buster slowed down but yeah, Circus and Dialtone both use the Freedom leitmotif

Circus and Dialtone are both part of The World Revolving
Is it me or does dialtone sound kinda like A town called hometown?
Considering Gaster canonically made the Core and implied to be connected to the secret bosses, that makes sense
This doesn't sound like just regular "oh haha mix Toby music it still sounds good". After hearing this I do think there is a very good chance the freedom theme was first written in a song with the core theme (probably for one of the last fights).
Would love to see people try and mix these into a battle theme regardless.
probably not

@@DJSlimeball why do so many people deny completely plausible theories on things toby could be planning
@@perhapsmoosebecause it’s a very superficial connection. If two motifs are written for similar bpms, it’s pretty easy to put them in the same key and have them sound good.
The more likely answer if anything is that the freedom motif was written to sound good with as many other motifs as possible to leave all his options open. (Ex. Don’t forget motif in the world revolving, power of neo/battle against a true hero motif in big shot)

The two feel like they belong together. Perhaps we will one day see a song that combines the two motifs in Deltarune.
Was listening to this and one of my cats (very big, kinda stupid) tried to initiate play with another (kinda small, skittish)
So, congrats, we initiated a boss fight by playing this music.
The CORE of the world
Very amazing reccommendations of bop
Someone will make this into a fanmade secret boss theme, at least i hope they do because this melody has potential
Yep. Wing Gaster the royal scientist definitely has something to do with this.
secret bosses do tend to have a theme of being cast away _and_ themes of freedom, so if The Entire Phucking Underground were to be turned into a dark fountain, the core would likely be a secret boss, if such a large object could be a singular item in a dark world, or even if a dark world could be created in such a large space
waiting for some guy to see this and make a gaster core that starts like this, which plot wise somewhat makes sense considering that gaster was likely the one to tell jevil and spamton about freedom, and he also built the core
I think this could be called either "Serene Chaos" or "Mechanical Chaos"
Artificial Freedom
@@DAVINNIA314 that's clever as it can possibly be
@@Devious_One7 Thanks! Yours were creative, too! Just a little Jevil focused... Which is Good, Jevil is great!
@@DAVINNIA314 its the fact that it is TWR with CORE that made me focus on Jevil. If it was just the Freedom motif or mayhaps TWR and BIG SHOT I would've thought more freedom focused names
@@Devious_One7 OK, I get it! Your decision makes sense!
Personally, I would've picked something like "Chaotic Engine", or "Chaos Machine" for that, but yours is as good or maybe even better than mine!
Also, another shared name could be "Core Memory", because of Gaster Trauma and all that...
For "BIG SHOT" maybe something like "Automatic Big Shot" or something like that, IDK... IMO this one's harder to think than the others...
It was always my headcanon that CORE was Gaster's full theme back in UNDERTALE. And when DELTARUNE released I thought the same about the freedom motif. This makes so much sense
Someone seemingly got close into making this a reality, but w/ that field of-.!.!
At the risk of sounding really pretentious, here is why I think it sounds so nice together.
The CORE represents the suspense of being so close to the end of the journey. It is the last area before confronting Asgore and at that point in the story every single monster in the underground knows it. So the apprehension isn't just within Frisk, but the whole of the underground, it is so close that you can taste it. So the bass line of CORE follows in that suspense, never quite getting where it needs to be, but always building to it.
Meanwhile, the Freedom Motif represents largely the same concept. In the two times we have seen it so far (Jevil and Spamton for anyone in the future who stumbles upon this) this plays in wildly different contexts but conveying the same thing; The desire or revelation of being free from something. Jevil's use of the motif is dominant, essentially serving as the entire melody of the song because to him he is already completely free within his little insanity, whereas Spamton's use is almost hidden behind the cacophony of other sounds and madness happening around him, implying that deep down all he wants (more than to be a big shot or whatever else) is for this madness he finds himself to end, or freedom from it in other words.
So put these two concepts together and you are left with a question and a hopeful answer. The CORE gives you the feeling that something is coming, something you should be excited for even if you can't imagine what it would be. Then, gently, the motif floats in and shows you what all of this buildup will have been for, the buildup still going on in the back but now with much more hope as the sound of freedom now dominates the space.
Really cool idea to layer them, I wouldn't have ever thought to do that, but now that I have heard it it makes so much sense.
This sounds so good, even though I suck at all things music I will try to use this for something maybe
go ahead, I'm sure it will be great!/srs
Thank you! @@jameshurley7867
Do you by chance have a discord that I can contact you from?
For some reason I think that this is going to age VERY VERY well
Gaster's creations go well together, of course!
If we ever get a vessel secret boss this is how i immagine the Freedom motif to sound like
I pointed this out before, and it's odd how people seem to disagree. Actually, a really good case in point for this would be Undertale Magenta's CORE theme, GEOTHERMAL
This sounds strangely banger
I think freedom theme actually just fit good with everything
Wowr really sounds good)
the core sounds great with almost any other theme
And that’s how Spamton was made
Omg got that right there is a perfect rythim
I'm Wing Gaster! The royal scientist!
unironically huge
me who got goosebumps from this:
Just put the gaster theme in there and itll be icing on the cake
Freedom theme already uses the Gaster Theme as its base
btw, that melody taken from the CORE's bassline is used in many other tracks from the game, like Waterfall and Another Medium.
It actually predates Undertale, its first use by Toby publicly being for the track "Patient", revealed in his Tumblr in 2012.
Part of me wanted to think this was silly at first but
- Gaster invented the CORE
- He's seemingly quite involved with Deltarune somehow
- Freedom motif is the strongest musical representation of Gaster's theme in the game
Yeah no that checks out, I wouldn't be surprised if Toby planned these themes that way, provided they are in the same key. Though it's just as possible that it may not be intentional and just worked out nice, given how far you have to transpose
There's also some fuckery with a Homestuck intersection too. Case #1 being Gamz- i mean Jevil, and to a lesser extent, Lil C- i mean Spamton.
Alongside some definite "your choices dont matter" vibe in both...
Both involving some Skeleton(?) who dominates one Aspect (Time or Space). How do you expect to outrun them when they're already here?
interesting...
very,
very,
interesting...
what do you think?
Oh this is such a clever blend. Gave me asmr tingles
Probs cause CORE already has a similar leitmotif to freedom used later on in the theme.
Freedom of the Core
Its worth noting the main motif used here is not specific to The CORE. Its the motif used in Ruins, Waterfall, and Another Medium.
Yeah that is true. One thing to note however is that in [BIG SHOT], there's that part where power of "neo" is used to represent spamton being spamton "neo". this is despite the fact power of "neo" is just Battle Against A True Hero. So Toby using the CORE baseline to represent the CORE, despite it being used in other things as well would not be a new thing. Whether this was intentional or not is up to interpretation. I personally believe it was unintentional, but still likely to appear in later chapters. :)
@@jameshurley7867 Thats true, but I feel like the actual core melody would also go REALLY well with the freedom motif. They have extremely similar rhythms, which is probably why freedom motif goes so well in its place
Hence why they merged Power of Neo with The World Revolving
