  • The City of San Diego has officially brought on a second ambulance provider to help prevent long response times and make sure San Diegans get emergency help when they need it most.
CBS 8 has been reporting on Falck and its struggles with staffing and long response times for over a year. Monday afternoon, the city council approved changes that should make a huge difference.
"We need to make sure an ambulance is on time every single time to save someone's life and that's what we're doing here today," said Councilmember Marni von Wilpert.
For more than a year, San Diego has raised concerns about Falck's response time delays and ongoing staffing shortage. Last December, The company announced large signing bonuses to help bring on new paramedics.

Maybe there wouldn't be such a shortage if Salaries were increased considering starting at a base level responder (EMT) requires paid class time, you have to pass that class, then pass the national registry exam to become licensed (this goes for higher levels too) then to deal with high stress emergencies with 12 hour+ shifts and only get paid equivalent to an employee that works flipping burgers at In-N-Out. The City needs to control this rather than rotating across many private companies and if they want to blame them over and over again then they need to take some action to control it or this problem will only continue. The amount of money healthcare cost in the US is insane and the fact that these first responders get the bare minimum for what they do its absurd. Most know this issue but no one wants to do anything about it, and we always ask why theres such a shortage.

How about raising EMT wages. At this point a McDonald’s worker makes more than them!!
San Diego has some of the lowest in the country
