I love these interviews! Thank you for bringing such fresh voices to what goes on with the different aspects of film making. I like this interview as much as the ones about Blue Eye Samurai.

Absolutely looooooved Shogun and must say job well done to all cast and crew. I only wish it were longer, hell, I would love just a series dedicated to life in feudal Japan with all that was involved then before modernization hit. I find it particularly fascinating that in human history the way of the sword and hierarchy of life was prevalent in so many lands and culture, Europe especially went through so many wars between clans and cultures it is mind boggling. I wish to visit Japan one day as a foreigner and just observe life happening from an almost unseen perspective.

On one hand I wish it was longer too but on the other hand, they nailed the series so I wouldn’t want to mess up a good thing.

When metalworking is cutting edge technology. (Yeah, I went there) Naturally the rich and powerful will have it. Or conversely, if you have metal weapons and armor you can make yourself rich and powerful.
As for hierarchy, all societies are hierarchical. They vary in the details; duties, rights, laws, manners. But there will be a hierarchy. Remember that the samurai were originally a kind of security service without any noble rank.
