The end of old Byker

The Byker Estate was built between 1969 and 1982. Designed by the late architect Ralph Erskine, it covers an area of approximately 200 acres and is home to around 9,500 people.

I dated a girl in the late 1970s, who lived in the newly built Byker Wall. I remember her mum telling us stories about old Byker. Great footage, thanks.

It wasn't just the houses they demolished, they destroyed whole communities and took away Bykers soul.
