Very nice Mach 1. I had a 71 Mach with a 351 Cleveland 4v, with a C6, with factory air. I loved that car. You forgot to mention the rim blow 3 spoke steering wheel. Very cool option.

They should’ve kept his body style go on through the 1970’s instead of bringing out the mustang II . It’s a shame it’s not a 4 speed . This is a amazing car. Someone was lucky getting this car.
That is only correct grill for 1971 or 1972 Mach 1. If yours was different either your car was a sportsroof or your original Mach 1 grill was replaced with a standard sportsroof grill.
My dad picked up a wrecked one in 1978. Same color. We had it in the back of the house and on the weekends he would pull parts from it and sell them to Mustang enthusiast. interior was black.
This is a VERY nice car with some nice options. I am a student of '71 Mach 1's because I own a '71 J-Code 429 car myself. As you pointed out, there are some incorrect items on the car in the video. 1. The rear wing is backwards. 2. The hood stencil in incorrect. 3. The side stripes are missing the portion that goes under the front side marker light. 4. It should not have side stripes on it anyhow because it has the chrome trim that separates the body color from the lower black part of the rockers. (cars got the chrome if they were not ordered with stripes) 5. The front spoiler is incorrect. (only Boss 351's came with a front spoiler from the factory) All of these items are common issues on restored 71-73 Mustangs. Not a big deal, easy to correct.
True the chrome strip factory option on the lower body didn't include the hockey stick stripes (or the hood blackout). However, items like the stripes, spoilers, and ram air were sometimes added by the dealer at the request of the customer buying the car..

Honestly I'm not quite sure what to think of the 429 CJ Or the Boss 429. Never driven or ridden in either but I remember reviews in Hot Rod and a few other magazines saying low speed throttle response was not great due to the Boss head's huge intake ports. They were not that impressed with the car on the drag strip and the weight distribution and the engine bay left a lot to be desired. I know the engine was developed with NASCAR in mind so the Mustang seems an odd choice for that engine compared to Torino. The Boss version looks impressive in hoodless street rods and the value of Boss 429 Mustang's is through the roof. Oh well, unlikely that I will be owning one at any rate. Or having any personal experience with one.
Gregory Timmons I know a guy that has a 70 aqua blue boss 429 and I can tell you confidently a more beautiful and better sounding car never existed.I dont know who told you a 429 was shit at low throttle speed but having rode in this car and actually being behind the wheel once everything youve heard must have come from either chevy crybabies who he beat with it or jealous guys who will never own one.That car flat out hauled ass from idle to wide open.The biggest problem with the boss 429 was keeping the tires from breaking loose when you left the line.The 429 was rated at 375 horse which in reality was a joke cuz the race version ones set up for dragging were pushing 500 to 55o.I saw a race one time between this car and a yenko camaron 427 and the boss had the camaro off the line and continued to pull away through the quarter.The yenko owner to his credit admitted that boss was one fast f****ng car.His best quarter time with mickey thompson soft compound tires was a mind blowing 12.20 at 125 mph.
Ed Cain Depends which flavor you bought.The detuned for street version was slower but the tuned big carb headered and cammed version was a rocket with times in the low 12s with a driver who could shift that 4 spd.

Both are great engines but the 428's were comically underrated at 335hp. My 69 put 510 to the wheels on the dyno in 1979 and beat everything on the street including hemi and other cobrajets lol
I'm waiting to see if our host starts talking about the stamped frame production that Ford called uni-body. The back springs shoved up into the trunk and you had to put sheets down on the floor-board to cover holes.

It's a cover called a topper that goes over the modern battery to make it look period correct, however AC Delco was what came on a 66-72 chevy's but you could still buy one and put it in a ford in 71, not 100% correct but it looks period and better than a modern batter with a pepboys sticker or something on it.

I always loved the 429. But the 427 I in the earlier years was a beast also, they underated the power of that motor a lot.
No Cruisomatic, power steering or air conditioning available with the 427....purely a street legal racing engine.

The rear spoiler is mounted backward. Hood blackout is not laid out correctly.. so many who paint these cars don't do their homework to get it right..
also, this is a J code 429 CJ Car, so it is missing the '429 RAM AIR ' lettering on the NASA Hood.

My mechanic that serviced my XW Falcon Futura had a 1971 mach 1 428.
71 is 429. I had a '69 428 SCJ Mach1 AUTO and '70 Cyclone 429 SCJ 4SP
