    People hate on the 71-73 Mustangs so much... I love them, when I was a kid my dad had a '71 convertible with a 351 Cleveland and that thing was a joy to ride in. I'd love to get a 71-73 with a big block and restore it.

      F*ck the haters. Best looking Mustangs ever made. I don't need a rinky dink '65 or '68 eleanor clone. The 71s were bold, and to this day have their own charisma.

      There is 9% greater displacement in a 429 than in my 383 Cleveland so the term "big block" vs "small block" means little. The cylinder head flow and design of the Cleveland is right there with big block Chevy. They flow great and will move with more snap than most 429 or 460's.

      People love the Foxbodies, but these 71-73 Mustangs are way better than those.

      @@jamesmedina2062there are 408 Cleveland stroker kits to. But the 385 series big block is just cool. Stock 375hp crank rated. With some upgrades to the engine it will be fast

    I worked at a ford dealership in 74. There were a few Cobra jet cars that came in for service. There was a 71 429 scj that was hit hard in the front it sat in the body shop for over a year. Then got repaired it was a total. The owner paid to fix it, because some problems with the insurance company.

    I had a 1969 Mustang Mach 1 GT with a 390 and the shaker hood scope in the early 1970s and I was 16 years old
    My father bought it for me at Harry May Chevrolet in Monroe Michigan used. I miss that car.

    Beautiful Mach 1, always loved these 71,s especially the Boss 351, Baddest Small Block to come outta Detroit ! These 429 SCJ,s are Pretty Nasty Engines also, I've always liked the 71-73 Mustangs, preferably the 71 and 72 Mach 1,s. This is a very nice Drag Pack Car, Love the Top Loader too.

    Had the opportunity to own an exact car to this....429CJ though and black mach 1 deluxe interior. This was in the early 1990's. Here in Canada. One owner car with 72,000 orig miles. $12,000 Canadian! What a steal it would have been!!! Was for sale at The Shelby Shop. Now known as Legendary Motors. Identical to this gorgeous car.

    1975 I was 19. I bought a pewter 71 Mach1 with that basic red int, 351 4V Cleveland with 4 speed and AC. It had 19000 miles with its original Firestone white letter tires and cost me $1900.
    Exhaust tips were rusty. I drove it year round in the winter. It had a ruff ride.

      Still in fairly good shape as it is, especially for a nearly 53 year old car. It's only original once. I'd leave it be for now.

    I had a '71 Mach 1 with a 351 Cleveland, C-6 auto. That thing wasn't the fastest off the line, but when that thing hit second it would suck you back into your seat. I surprised many a corvette that's for sure.

    Ford President and ex-GM guy Bunkie Knudsen approved this 1971 Mustang design, according to historians. Word has it that Lee Iacocca had a fit! Knudsen was gone before 1970.

    • @matthewnosal6893
      @matthewnosal6893 10 месяцев назад

      As a 70’s kid I really like the knudsen nose that all the cars got. Can’t help but think that when bunkie came to for he brought renderings and ideas to ford that he all ready had been working on while at GM. The 429/460 canted heads are very similar to the 396/454, The Cleveland blocks look similar to the olds/ Pontiac engines from prior years.

    • @MisterMikeTexas
      @MisterMikeTexas 10 месяцев назад

      @@matthewnosal6893 As for the engines, it takes several years of development and testing before they go into production. Henry II hired Bunkie from GM in early 1968. The 429 Thunder Jet was already being offered in the 68 T Bird, and the new 460 would be in the 68 Lincoln Continental and early 69 Continental Mark III after New Year. There may have already been ex-GM engineers in Ford Engine & Foundry when Bunkie came aboard. Come to think of it, Larry Shinoda says when Bunkie brought him over from GM, he test drove a mid-engine exotic concept called Mach II which was powered by a Cleveland prototype. So, the 429/460 big blocks were already out, and the 351/400 Clevelands were getting close to production. Bunkie did have time to influence the 1970 design updates (Pontiac-style grilles on T Birds and LTD's), and the 71 Mustang redesign.
