We found a huge working soviet-era machine and drove it

Completely abandoned in a huge forgotten factory. We got in through the roof because the normal entrances were locked off. There is a working factory in the territory, that's where the machine gets the power from, but I don't show the outside of the building, because I don't want any people recognizing the location of the place and exposing it to everyone.

actually most engineers are capable of building machines that last for a decade without needing more than some minor repairs. But imagine capitalism with decent products: hey everyone! wanna buy this washing machine? - Hell yeah, looks fine. 5 years later: hey, wann buy another washing machine? - nope, still works like a charm! - damn, I guess I'll close shop then
@@ulricheule2431 True, we had old washing machine left from previous house owner and it worked perfectly for many years, only changed it since it started to make weird noise, and was not power-efficient for todays standards

It isn't the titles that matters.. its sheiy that matters to viewers !
In the age of modern computer gaming where you can do anything, watching someone control a large machine simply back & forth is somehow even better.
Not to sound like the safety nanny... but that's a good way to get killed running an EOT Crane. Company I work for has an extensive training program just to learn to operate this kind of equipment. I oversee a section of the electrical department, and most the cranes I'm responsible for maintaining date from the 40s. 250v DC contactors.
Care must be exercised, especially when moving about on the upper structure of the crane, as it has not been uncommon for experienced workmen to be 'rolled' by the crane. That is to say, he is captured by the outer structure of the building, and crushed between the moving crane and the wall or girder.
Not sure on the feed for the soviet era hot rails... Ours have approximately 8,000 amps to back them up at 250VDC. Instant death were you to bridge them.
On a side note, the rail stops at the end of the building need to be inspected. Ramming into them at speed has the potential to shear the stops from the upper girder if they've deteriorated... This will allow the crane to blow through the end of the building, and end up in a heap on the ground. This happened at one of our company facilities within the past couple years.
Just be careful.
As a post script, Most of the cranes in my facility (We have over 120 at my plant), are at least 25 US Tons capacity. Our largest is 400 US Tons.
@@GKBigmack I was scared for them the entire time walking on the rail then throwing it into the wall. Risky shit man
I got a bit worried for him when he entered the cab while there was someone playing around with the controls. The crane seems to be powered by 3-phase 380V AC thru 3 side rails.
Yes I totally agree. I work at a giant iron works with lots of big bridge crains like this. No joke. I cringed when he stepped in the cab wial the other kid was running the controls. It was shear luck that the travel lever wasn't pulled wial he was stepping in. I was waiting for the rigging gear to catch on something wial they were traveling and RIP it right off. Tons of electricity going through those rails that were sparking, most people would have taken that as a clue...To be fair I would definitely have done the same as these guys when I was just a few years younger though.
Used to built these cranes at Columbus-McKinnon in 416

FootLongSubway that's not surprising, because Latvian Soviet Era machinery were very good comparing even to Russia itself.
@2:53 dudes lucky he climbed on the side that has just the track and the safety tether cable on it, if he climbed the other side with the hot rail he would’ve been cooked. Guess it just shows how dangerous explorations like this can be, especially if you don’t know what you’re dealing with.
My first thought exactly. All the cranes at our steel mill have the rails on the operators cabin side.
I was looking for those!
This! I know a lot about electronics, but i wouldn't have expected the power rails for the crane to still be live in an abandoned factory.
I work at a steel mill and fix these things for a living. Overhead cab cranes. This one is a little guy. Probably a 15-25 ton.

nice crane. You may have damaged the structure slamming it to a stop like that. It could damage the wall also. The sparks are from t burning the dust and junk off the rail to get the electrical connection needed. That would be a sweet crane to have in my garage. glad you boys did not get killed.

I love your videos! There's no hour long intro, just straight to the content! I'm new to your channel and discovered you from your Chernobyl expedition. Very cool stuff bro ✌💯🔥👍👍
This is crazy! Nice video, shiey!
That shit is not that old. a lot of places still run old analog bridge cranes like that. It is also a common practice that the overhead crane would be the last thing to lose power because they use it to dismantle all the equipment. the switch gear in the crane is probably from the 60's and the dust collection over the tables in the fab/maintenance area isn't very common in old factory's. I think that little skid steer is early 70's.
mrjeepdude100 so it's soviet era
But the bridge cranes need yearly inspection and it's very dangarous to use it without it.
In sowjet it may not be a so big deal but you should clean the switchboxes and check for rust of every part BEVORE even dream of using it. The power may be needed for draining pumps and the basic maintain equipment and it should still be maintained in monthly basis. If this crane is derailing it will be catastrophic failure. And NO!: the sowjet held up more restrict operation procedures because they don't use automatic safty systems all time (no automatic end switches, ...).
Reminds me of Metro 2033
