When I see a garment that's "a little bit expensive " I always take into account the CPW ( cost per wearing). If it's a classic and will be worn often it's worth it because it has a low CPW. That's also why I never purchase an outfit for a single event. (Wedding dresses are excluded from the CPW rule)
So funny I'm usually the opposite, I have less expensive clothes I wear often and splurge on dresses for special events!

Until my kids were both school aged, I did the same thing with matching outfits for any travel as well as in the parks whenever we went WDW (I worked for Disney at the time, we went 2 or 3 times a year). It makes life SO much easier.
