My childhood best friend is Jewish. Her and her brother went to an overnight sports camp. They went all summer long. We met in 2nd grade in 1988. We were friends for a very long time. She passed away in 2018. At 37. Her family had beach house in Ocean City NJ. I have alot of memories of her and her family. I even met her grandparents. They invited me to celebrate Passover with them.

I have a friend that's been my best friend for 48 years now, but now we live in different states she's in Illinois where I'm from and I'm living in North Carolina I sure miss her.... A true friend is when you can pick up the phone and start talking like you've never left off😊

You are the most organized Mom I have ever encountered! I loved VBS during the summer as my Mom worked so we rode our bikes to every church in the area. I think I must have attended at least 5 each summer. I’m now 64, a non Christian (no matter how those churches tried) but have fond memories of the experiences.

I was raised in a Protestant denomination, and attended Vacation Bible School several summers during the 1950s with the two children who lived nextdoor. We were different denominations but that didn't matter. VBS lasted 2 weeks at First Baptist Church in Charleston, nice days full of Bible stories, singing, arts & crafts, a snack, and daily walks down to the waterfront. The church furnished bus transportation for VBS. I don't remember if there was a fee to attend, but if so it would not have been expensive. VBS was one of my happiest childhood experiences.

Christians have camp too. I wasn't raised Christian though. I did go to one LDS young women's camp because I joined at age 17 and 1/2, I almost forgot about this. I never got the young women's program which I really could have used. 10,000 dollars? My sister and her family joined a nice Methodist church last year. I'm Christian now, or at least that's what I consider myself

We are about to start our sleepover camp experience and I have 3 kids haha so we will see. I was an only child and the cost was nothing like it is today. The major camp’s people send their kids to are 13k and more. We are looking at much cheaper options that are run by the Jewish community. But I’m not sure sending 3 kids for a month would ever be financially feasible.

LOL, my older nephew does that, put the wrong shoe on the wrong foot. The only camp I went to was debate camp. I was proud of myself for not getting lost, it was at MSU. I have a large lunch bag with two drink holders. But your drink sling things are cool.

You're such a wonderful Jewish Mommy. I'm not Jewish but loved hearing about your camps. I know it's important to marry even if not practicing their fait It sounds like it opens avenues of not only making life long friends but potential spouses and other Jewish connections down the line. Hope your guys have a wonderful time and learn a lot
Mom sure has them ready to go. ❤

You always buy cool items for the little guys. Day camp for now is great. I will bet Max , and the others will be going overnight in the future. Why? Because Daddy had such a great time, and still has connections. 😊. You go, girl! Try to have some fun summer time for yourself! ❤

So organized!!! Wish the camps were more affordable. I never went as I grew up in public housing and even the cheapest was way out of reach for the poor.

Camp is unaffordable now. My grandchildren are going to an Audubon camp in their town for 2 weeks. It’s just too expensive. My son went to a local day camp as a little kid. The same camp is $200 a week now. Not a Jewish camp. I can’t imagine what that costs now.

One word do to advice. One week sleep away camp is good to learn a little independence and some fun camp like activities. But it is no way a mini multi week camp experience. Manly those camps have kids who do not attend the same session each year. They may go to the same camp but meet different kids each year. So no life long friendships. P!us you do t get the same social experience. Most kids can get a long for five to seven days. It is the second week that alliances are tested and kids Learn to navigate those different experiences. Very important in the long run. Like I said my kids have both done one week summer camps for years. But I can tell you it is nothing like what I experienced. Try for a four week experience, a few weeks at home and a summer family vacation the best formula. If cost is an issue ask the grandparents if they would lime to chip in lieu of a birthday or ho!I day gift. I gave both my tiny nieces a pool membership and a swing set can't wait to chip in for camp for them. They are both too little for camps now.

I don't know. I suppose it may depend on the size of said camp. I used to attend a 1 week summer camp each summer from 3rd-12th grade (The camp was structured every 2 grades until high school which was all together). I am still friends with some people I knew from summer camp. It was a rather small religious (Christian, not Jewish) camp and many would return year after year so that very well may make a difference. I never attended a multi-week camp so I cannot compare the difference in that regard.
I do find it fascinating to learn about Jewish summer camps. I think the marginally attached to Judaism where there are undertones of faith, but it is kept general is quite interesting. I have listened to speeches where people are attempting to both be general and speak to specific faith ideas; it is always interesting to observe.

@@user-msi14 I think Christina camps are different because they are generally broken down by parish, diocese or small
Denominations. It makes more sense than a one week secular camp open to a wider audience.
