    Perfect little sketch! Some artists get nervous working outdoors among people, but once you get into the flow of things, it's easy to focus on the drawing and just enjoy the process. We are seeing more and more artists carrying fountain pens for sketching! The line quality produced by a fountain nib is so expressive, yet really as precise as most would need it to be. A good pen also adds a touch of classic elegance to the kit, and really makes the artist feel confident and serious! A piston converter is a great pen accessory, BTW- it's a little syringe that fits like a refill, which lets you use any fountain-safe ink. A converter is good for flushing your pens between colors, too (only cool water, never hot!)

    Thank you for this video. I loved how you went through all the steps in creating this beautiful painting. It really helps to see the actual process, which makes it less scary and doable. I especially like knowing your thought process as you sketch and paint . Plus, you sketched and painted in a very relaxing manner. That's important to me, when I'm learning art techniques and processes from an artist. Thank you so much .

    • @KoosjeKoene
      @KoosjeKoene  2 года назад +1

      Glad it was helpful! And being relaxed as you draw is key. Drawing is something we do for fun, so let's relax about wonky lines or "mistakes". So what if you don't finish the drawing or if you mess up the perspective. Sit down and take in your surroundings, and allow yourself to play! Yay!

    • @KoosjeKoene
      @KoosjeKoene  2 года назад

      You can do it! Bring the absolute minimum of tools so you don't need to decide on the spot what to use. Just start drawing with what you have.And start drawing right away before your inner critic takes over and starts overthinking.

    Learned a lot from this video…particularly your use of water colors. Could you expand on your choice of colors and the different size pans that expands your color choices. Also…concerning your location choice - do you think about feeling safe before you start? Thank you.

    • @KoosjeKoene
      @KoosjeKoene  2 года назад

      The color choices are preferences that I learned over the years. Very personal preferences - everyone has their own. And for the size of the pans: to fit all the colors I wanted into the watercolor box, I had to add a few half pans instead of full pans. So I the colors that I use most are in full pans, and the colors I don't need as much of (just a dab of red, for example, already is a lot of pigment, but the cerulean blue isn't that pigmented so I need more paint when I use it)
      And as for feeling safe: I make sure I have my bag close to me, so no one can take it without me noticing it. And when I choose to sit somewhere for an hour, I make sure it's not infested by rats or bugs or whatever.
      I hope this answers your question.

    Dear Koosje really appreciate this video. But I have one question. I love Derwent Water Brush pens as well, but I have found they seem to suck up colour and take ages to get clean again. So, do you take more than one for when you change from say brown tones to clear yellows? Thank you, if you have time❤

    • @KoosjeKoene
      @KoosjeKoene  2 года назад +1

      Hi Albertine,
      I don't use Derwent waterbrushes. Maybe you could try a different brand?
      I clean my waterbrush every time I dip into one of my paint pans. My palette stays relatively clean that way. Especially for the lighter colors like yellow, I like it clean(ish). It does indeed mean that I do tend to run out of water in my waterbrush sometimes, but often I have water with me anyway (to stay hydrated), so I can simply refill from my bottle.
      I do often have a second waterbrush with me, so I can keep painting and don't need to dirsupt my flow by refilling the waterbrush container.

      @@KoosjeKoene Another tip so you don't run out of water: The flat version of the Pentel Waterbrush has a bigger barrel (you can fill more water in than in the regular ones) but the barrel also fits the regular brush part because of interchangeable thread, you can put the bigger barrel on your medium or skinny brush.
