  • Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday!
    I often get questions about drawing people: do you ask permission? What do you do if people come up to you? What if the person you are drawing is moving, or even leaving while you may not even be halfway done with the drawing? I'll share some tips, drawings and best practices that hopefully help you to feel more confident drawing people.

    Great tips and wonderful advice. I've started doing this lately, it just takes that commitment to give it a go. I usually try sketching people sitting outside having coffee. I live in Madrid, so there are a lot of "terrazas" where people meet up and chat. So far I've only done a few sketches at my local cafetería, in other areas I tend to take photos with my phone and then sketch something when I get back home (although I often put it off for a long time 🤦‍♂️)

    Thank you, Koosje. I really want to focus on drawing people. I have folders full of ideas and references, but it's intimidating to get started. At that point, it's always so helpful to hear your thoughts and ideas about the new project I've picked. Firstly for learning, secondly for inspiration, thirdly for reassurance, fourthly for examples, and fifthly for the variety of ideas and approaches. Immediately, it makes the whole project less daunting and more fun. 😁

    Interesting how you combined multiple people in one drawing. I’m not fast enough. But to change the subject I’d love to know how you can keep an alocasia plant alive! I think that one is also called the African Mask. I have tried twice and killed them both times.

      My alocasia plant is no more. I didn't really like it much anyways...

    Any tips on drawing people in order to get a likeness? Drawing even the simplest sketch of a person that actually looks like that person is tremendously difficult.

    • @KoosjeKoene
      @KoosjeKoene  2 года назад +4

      It really is difficult. And as you may know, I don't focus on the likeness, I focus on the joy it gives me to spend time drawing (someone).
      And if you are looking for capturing likeness: practice practice practice.
      Leave out details and focus on the corners of the eyes and the corners of the mouth - they have a lot of characteristics in them.

    Thank you for your video! When you were with your friend, how did you draw at the same time? Are you conversing? Does the person you are with get annoyed?

    • @KoosjeKoene
      @KoosjeKoene  3 года назад +1

      Sometimes I draw with a friend yes. And then we chat while we draw. When I am with friends that don’t draw, I pick an appropriate moment to draw. Does that answer your question?

      when you're around other sketchers, it's hard to avoid - but yes, how about our still moments of looking at our phones??

    How did you make the forms of the people in the harmonica drawings you showed. What kind of pen did you use for the bodies and what kind for the shadows? Thanks in advance for your reaction,
