- I bought this Perfect Storm lightning controller for my 2014 Halloween display. Despite its small size and price tag, this unit has a lot of bang for the buck! I bought this unit from Frightprops.com for $30. Other lightning controllers I have found range from $130-$300. I am really happy with the unit and this should make a great addition for this year. Hope you found this clip useful and Happy Haunting!!
Interesting. I may be looking into this
I bought one,its nice.I wanted one long ago
Just bought one at Halloween Express on clearance for 20 dollars. Seems to work good.
I like how at the end you was heavy breathing lol kind of sounded like Michael Myers
I bought this unit for 2017 Halloween and I'm quite satisfied with it. I run three 500 Watt halogen work lights and the box does a great job. It's most certainly a plug-n-play device.
Awesome !!! Love It !!!!
HEY ! Didn't expect that last boom after I thought u were finished☆☆☆
Did you find a source for downloadable thunderstorm audio for your Perfect Storm box? Could you share. THANX Nice demo.
This is awesome! I love how you set it all up !
This thing seems to have vanished from the market. I can't find one anywhere.
Shame they quit making these. I’m lucky enough to have two.
Hey guy. Just wanted to know how much do they charge for shipping and is website a secure one?
Great build and tribute! Thanks for the review.
EXCELLENT review! You helped me to see that it works with one light and not multiple lights. For the money this is pretty sweet! Thank you so kindly for taking the time to make this video for us!
Hello, Can you tell me how many Watt the maschine has please.
Nice video ❤HALLOWEEN 🎃
Great set-up and looks great in your graveyard!
Nice ^v^ I show the flicker unit they sold at Target a few years ago in a couple vids that handles 500W. "Lightning Flicker Unit Backlit Fog into Back of Tombstone Halloween Yard Haunt How-to" and "Lightning Flicker Unit Makes Halloween Prop Mask Mouth Move (Shows Flicker Box in Detail)" I've made it react to music, SFX, via speakers or RCA plug, or even the sound of the fog machine.
Just ordered mine to install in the back of my columns. Should be here sometime next week. Frightprops is currently sold out, so I ordered mine from horror-hall.
I love this unit and this is the 3rd year I'm getting into Halloween the 1st 2 years I had my old computer with a great little Altec sound system which throws out incredible sounds with youtube Halloween scary sounds including huge storm sounds. before these sounds, we may have had ...50 kiddies but after my sounds about 100 due to no one else on my street doing anything like this I live in Canada and this $30 for you may come to 45 for me but I'll see online thanks
Set up is great! Next time I suggest putting the light in the tree, and if you can, get the speakers at 6-8ft off the ground as well. Keep in mind, I haven't done this with the MPS, but I've done it with other light sources and sounds. It improves the effect dramatically.
Hello i am from Greece....could you tell me please if i can use this machine because we have electric power 220 watt?
are there any decent assembled 3-channel "color organ" boxes for sale at reasonable prices?
Thanks for the review.... I'm thinking of getting one myself.
Nice review. I've been wondering about this one, so this review was really helpful. Thanks!
Thanks for making this vid!! I was looking to get one but was unsure how well it worked. So now I'll order one. Thanks again. :-)
Great review, thanks! I think you sold me on this one.
I had a question could you use different music or sound
Shame they want $75 for shipping to the UK
I might have to get me one of them !!
Awesome plan on buying one my self!!!
Great video and commentary. I just went looking for one after watching your video. Nada. Zilch. Nyet. Nichts Crap. No longer sold. Bummer. But THANKS anyway!
+John Dees It is still sold at many places, eBay, Amazon, Walmart, Frightprops and many more.
Thanks so much!! Because of your video, I'm buying this right now. Just a couple questions. Have you had any issues running more than one flood light? I'm trying to use two 500 watt flood lights, not sure if that'll be a problem. 2nd have you had any issues with other music making the lights go off? I'd like to run a different soundtrack as well as the thunder sound. thanks so much for your help!
Thanks AV8. You should not have any issues running 2 500 watt lights. I have not tested this yet, but the unit is rated for 1000 watts. I will probably run a similar setup on Halloween. As for your second question, I think you can get away with running a second soundtrack without interrupting the lighting. As I said in the video, it seems that the unit is made to pick up lower frequencies, so if you are running a second soundtrack that doesn't use very low frequencies ( low bass ) you should be fine.
Love the Vincent Price tribute.
To much on time for a lightning strike, no aux trigger. Not very good for
Would outside noise cause problems with this machine. I'd like to use this in an outdoor environment where there is no electricity. I plan on using a generator and am worried the generator's noise would interfere causing the lightning to go wild.
Johnny, the newer unit, 2.0, comes with both the microphone to pick up external sound, and also an audio-in jack with which you can connect an mp3 (or some other type) of player. And when you do this, the microphone is turned off. So external noise won't be a problem.
I have this one as well and love it but cannot seem to find it anymore. I would like to have one as a back up.
+Andi G It is still sold at many places, eBay, Amazon, Walmart, Frightprops and many more.
I just bought one last week and tried it with the sound bar from my TV as it has great sound but it didn't work. I tried it with 2 different lamps. I liked the sound but no lights. I set it right in front of my sound bar and nothing. Any tips on why it wouldn't work???
Not sure why it wouldn't work?? If you turn the knob to its most sensitive setting you sound be able to tap the mic on the unit and it would set the light off. If that doesn't work the unit must be defective and I would try and exchange it or return it.
had the same thing they are blaming my voltage blowing the motor even though i used a converter
Hey man! Great review. This is something I wanted to do for my 2014 haunt but couldn't afford the 299$ option from frightprops. Would you say that the sensitivity is pretty good on this unit? In thinking of running maybe 2 or 3 floods off of it to cover the whole front of the house. Thanks again for the review, I subscribed to you!
Thanks Hallowsfinest! Yes, the sensitivity of the unit seems to work very well and has a wide adjustable range. It also seems to be made to isolate lower frequency noises such as Thunder. I think I will end up running multiple flood lights as well. In the video I only had a 100 watt flood, so the video really doesn't show the real potential of the unit. Thanks for watching!
OhioHaunter Awesome man! Thank you for the quick response! Looks like i'll be ordering one of these!
Thank YOU!
I have two fairly large strobe lights. Can you plug in a power strip in order get more lights in the system?
yes but only up to 1000 watts
I use "100W" daylight (not soft white) LED light bulbs. They only use about 9W each, which means I can use several more to create my lightning. Also, the daylight bulbs have a much bluer tone, which looks more like actual lightning. Finally, I have a soundtrack for my lightning/thunder, wherein the two channels are offset by 1/2 to 1 second. The left channel triggers the lightning, and the right channel is pumped through the speakers, creating a delay between the lightning and the thunder which is very realistic.
Thanks so much! Great review! Would this work with other audio besides thunder?
Yes! This would work with any sound effect you wanted to run it off
Thanks so much! I'll buy one now!
where can I buy this from?
yeah I know right
Look on Amazon
My name is Jeefff !!!
Have it drive about three 100-watt-equivalent , 1500 lumens each or better, led bulbs that emit 4000 deg Kelvin or higher color temperature, (all of that info is on the box .. Walmart has ‘em) which is a very intense blue-white light with lots of UV, PLUS a fluorescent tube or led driven blacklight bulb or bar. It will look more like lightning than lightning. A single incandescent bulb just can’t come close. Run the thunder through as big of a subwoofer as you can find. Have some kid with one of those ground-shaking hip hop subwoofer set-ups park in front of your house and Bluetooth to his stereo.
I have been using my perfect storm for the past 4 years and I love it. Just remember to use regular light bulbs or like me a large strobe light and you should be fine. If it still doesn't work and you don't want to deal with shiping it back take of the screws and check the power connection inside the box. I had the same problem and with a bit of soldering it was ready to go in minutes....
