With all the chemistry between them, this should be on Periodic videos.
More videos with Bethany please! The things like this she works on would be very interesting.
Phobos and Deimos were not discovered until 1877, by Asaph Hall. They must have been a later addition to the orrery.
2:08 I would liquify on the spot if someone said that to me.
Oh yeah... that's like the sexiest thing anyone can say to you. And remember, that you can say to anybody else... So beware of your power...
The quick gaze at the camera after this sentence...
@@yjonesy and that subtle lower lip bite.
This is such a fun video! I'm loving the energy from both of you :)
Bethanys voice is so relaxing 😌 great video
I like those scientific mechanical models, no matter if they are astronomical or related to an other science.
Thanks for making this video!
It would be awesome if we could get a long video of a full Saturn year once it's all restored and lubricated.
no matter what i'm doing i always have time for an Objectivity video
"I'm learning so much just listening to you" - the sexiest thing I ever heard on Objectivity:)
Oh, the rest of the video continues…
There was some positive tension going around for sure. Well, they're all awesome people so I can understand that. :)
Brady and that Orrery were totally into each other.
i ship it
Thank you, Brady, for making these wonderful videos. Even now that RUclips covers basically everything, you come up with unique and quality content for your channels.
ps: love the restoration-conservation mini series with Bethany.
What a treat! I really enjoy all the videos and when there's Brady meets a like minded, passionate conservator such as Bethany you can really get a sense of the age and rarity of what being viewed. Excellent video guys.
DO THE 10 HOUR VIDEO!
Please.... :/
Yes! More orreries, please.
Yes please! More Orreries!
More, yes! Orreries, please!
The bone handle's a little stiff, but ya, go on, you can give it a spin. No no, don't use any spit. ;-P
Banter! She's great!
Uranus was discovered in the 1790's but the orbit was not known initially so astronomers did not know if it was a planet or a comet. I think it was Bouvard who looked through old astronomical data and came up with evidence that the orbit was close to circular, but that wasn't until 1820.
Just utterly lovely
this was a lovely fun video. I love it.
Awesome video Brady! Upload the 10 hour video soon
So where is the 10 hour video of Brady turning it?
_an off-the-shelf orrery_
😁I love it
yeah let's see on my grocery list, I need... one sack of potatoes, half a pound of cheddar, a mid sized orrery and some lard.
This was a lot of fun!
Please do a video with the Professor filming and Brady explaining.
A ten hour movie of cranking the handle would be like a Warhol movie.
I always loved the scene in Pitch Black where they find orrery.
I would love to restore such a beautiful piece of science, as a RASC member I have a great fascination of orreries. The most amazing one I have seen to date is a watch but nothing can beat a true originals for the mechanical beauty.
Man I used to live at Borune Pines basically across the street from the Bournemouth Natural Science Society and I always meant to go have a look but never got around to, shame
Can we have more of Bethany? I could watch her all day talk about restorations while she actually worked.
I absolutely love these objects! Not only because they are extremely cool, but because the name of them is very close to my real name. So I won't be disclosing it here. Lol!
Thanks for posting. Really interesting. Recently saw an orrery at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow which looks similar but is much larger. Hope you could do a video on that one.
sooooo.... where is the second vid?
If Saturn moves that slow, just imagine how slow the Uranian system would move... perhaps that's why it wasn't added.
I think they were still arguing over the name at the time. Being made in London they were probably still calling it George.
Are we gonna acknowledge that look that Bethany had while Brady was showing off about his Galilean moons? ^^
Gorgeous model of the solar system.
Now THIS is an object. Phoooo-boy!
May I be the first to advise against using WD40 as a lubricant? Thanks.
thank you. solvent is not lubricant
wrong direction, we're going backwards in time 🤭
Which may be why the moon is so jerky. The gear backlash may be tuned for proper anti-clockwise motion.
🤭 emit ni sdrawkcab gniog er'ew ,noitcerid gnorw
@@bmcquillan lol, to be fair anticlockwise is the standart in mathematics
I ship it...
Brady x Orrery
A bit more exclusive than an astronomy app for Android, more like a personal reference tool for a specialised user.
I'd love to get going on making the mechanism smooth after all these years.
It's like all those classic cars in museums, they need a run occasionally.
Weird question, why are orrerys usually 3D? Couldn't they be 2D like a clock?
Because that wouldn't be as cool looking, nor as fun to play with, of course!
It would be so cool to make something like this!
At the time the orrery was constructed Saturn did indeed have five known moons, and Jupiter four, but Mars had none, at least none that had been discovered. As others have commented it was long assumed Mars must have two moons, as Earth had one and Jupiter had four, so Mars in between must have two. It just so happened the speculators, and orrery makers, were right. But the Martian moons weren’t discovered until a century later. One of the oddities of astronomical history. Thanks for the video!
I like how you're both so close to it, so close together and so close to the camera. I want to use the word intimate, but obviously that has other connotations.
Orreries are always awesome.
Might have to join the comment about Phobos and Deimos being discovered in 1877. A shame there isn't much history of this beautiful piece to know how/when/who added them, or if there wasn't addition what science of the time the 2 moons were based on ! :-)
3:11 3:19 3:44 That's what she said
Uranus, giggle
Wow shes pretty.
bethany uses the correct pronunciation
We missed you Brady, where have you been?
I assume the reason why they didn’t add Uranus is because it’s orbital period is over 84 years, meaning it’s gearing would either be large or complicated, and maybe the maker didn’t want to go through the trouble?...
You have a graphic globe from 1794, and you did not check for the depiction of Antarctica? It would have been cool to see how the coast line was shown, as it was not seen by humans definitively until 1820.
Ok, now we NEED to see the thing done. Please?
Im pretty sure i know the loop for next Hello Internet.
Who wants to sample Bethany's voice for a dance track?
"Uranus potentially had been discovered" One day will come when I won't giggle to that name... Today is not the day.
Strange this was made in 1794 and has two moons! Mars indeed has two moons, Phobos and Deimos, but they were discovered by Asaph Hall, an American in 1877. 83 years later.
#teambethany
Ganymede is 3rd in the list
Bethany is such a cutie, love her enthusiasm
Turn the handle the correct direct and the mechanism might operate more smoothly
The moon is dragging on the bottom plate.
Planets move counterclockwise viewed from the top.
Define the top 😂
Its all relative.
Slightly naughty video!
Pretty sure if this was to scale in proportion to the brass Sun, Saturn would be several miles away.
I don't know how big that brass sun is but if it's the size of a baseball (~3in diameter), Saturn would be about 250 ft away.
Wait a sec. Wasn't Phobos and Deimos discovered only in 1877? How can they be on there if this was made in 1794?
Get a room!
I love it! How much? (jk)
2:43 FBI OPEN UP
If the sun is about 1.5 inches in diameter Saturn would be about 130 feet away
If anyone asks, it's not Ivory - it's BONE.
new holland ahahaha
Forced orrery obsolescence = not including all the planets
SEND IT TO BAUMGARTNER
I would have asked you to stop because you were making me anxious
this is almost an academic ASMR video
This might be the greatest compliment I've ever had
You just ran the solar system backwards.
What's with all the neckbeards in the comments?
first
This 2:35 is how you pronounce it correctly, and that 2:45 is the incorrect way of saying it. Google and even astronomers say it wrong.
