i don't know if an underlying message was intentional but hear me out: the struggle of forgiveness. there are two sides. gabbie is one, who is content with forgetting the past, whatever that may entail, and save face, preserve her dignity. katy is the second, who acts as gabbie's opposite here, expressing love and forgiveness for herself and her mistakes, the things she's weathered in her life, and finds no reason to fear that. for the most part, the voices of these two overlap like they're talking over one and other, so its a constant battle for the front. everyone's interpretation is different, but this one made the most sense to me. i'd like to hear other hidden meanings anyone else finds, if any at all lol
