OOft. Nobody ever did it like the Muses back then. Great to see them live with Leslie Langston on bass - they were never the same once she left. Wish I had been able to see them live with that line up.

This track shows how good a band Throwing Muses were. Drumming, guittars, bass, vocals and harmonies are all spot on. It's brillianr how they can replicate what appears to be an intricate piece of music .

Throwing Muses! What a band. For me, Kristin is in a very select group of talents that are utterly inimitable, along with the likes of Captain Beefheart and MES. She's also a total hero, having severed ties with all record companies and becoming entirely self sufficient. Show some love for a true original people.

saw them when the sisters were 20 at the old johnny d's in allston back in 1985 thanks to my friends from boston. i moved to boston 2 years later to be a fan.

I was at this gig. I sat in the balcony,
The Pixies were on first, doing support. I'd never heard them.
I remember them playing this song.

Not to take anything away from Kristin Hersh, because she's the only lyricist I have heard who can employ what seem like stream-of-consciousness lyrics and still be incredibly moving (and I include Bowie in that, whose songs always seemed like cold experiments), but the drums on this are like a fucking orchestral composition.
David Narcizo's writing through this period of the Throwing Muses should have made him one of the most famous drummers in rock history. The drumming really is astounding.

Abso-fucking-lutely, both Muses and Pixies full sets were recorded, Pixies' set saw a DVD release some years ago but it is criminal that this has never even seen a limited run release. I'm assuming it's licensing issues of some kind, or just that 4AD didn't think they'd make a return on it, did you ever get a response?

For all the people who are watching this, I saw these guys at "The Living Room" back in 1984 in Providence R.I. and they opened for my friends band "Boy on Fire". I still remember that the drummer had no cymbals. Weird. There were not too many people there that night but it was still fun.

The nontitled debut album stands as one of the pinnacles of rock music, after which only the next two EPs can really compare. Leslie Langston is so superb here, and was definitely the best bassist the band had. A shame they couldn't maintain this energy and strangeness, but it didn't seem like a healthy place to be. In any case, one great album is more than enough.

Presumably the entirety of this show was recorded with audio/visual; since the Pixies support set from the same night has subsequently seen a DVD release, I'm guessing by the changing camera angles this is a nth-generation copy from that recording made by 4AD. A couple of the tracks surfaced on TV (Mania and Soul Soldier; Wired, ruclips.net/video/QutAU3ebW2c/видео.html), and Mania and Downtown got official releases as b-sides on an EP.
So why no official release, even as a small limited edition run? Would love to see the concert footage in its entirety, and it MUST exist somewhere!
