What people who are saying to "simply change your diet" don't understand is that when you're busy and stressed, it's very hard to keep track of your diet. Having meals that you know the calorific value of and that cover all your body's needs, seems like it could be a huge help. Your video convinced me to place my first order!
Glad to help out!
How did it go? would like other POV's and thoughts. Cheers.
@@CrackedTubeGamerseeing as she didn't reply i guess it did not go well....
On the price front. For a student, definitely expensive. But for an average professional, it's MUCH cheaper than the shit we normally eat.
Huel is high cost to get into, but if you do a months analysis on regular spending on food, for most of us (who lets be real, are not that health or diet conscious) it's easily 30% cheaper than the typical frozen meals, take away and then the odd home cooked meal.
I just tried the Cajun hot & savory and it was good. I didn’t need to add any seasoning as it was spicy and flavorful. Things to consider doubling the cook time to 10 minutes gave me a good consistency for the noodles. They were cooked without being mushy. Definitely shake the bag beforehand and be sure to stir well after adding the boiling water. I used kettle method with a thermos so it was well covered during cooking. It was good enough for me to go back for a second scoop after trying. Unless my body ends up not responding well I’ll definitely re order. I ordered on Amazon so I didn’t have to commit to a big package to try it.
This was so helpful! I’m also a medical student starting year 3 soon so I’ve been wondering how I can save time on meals. After watching this, I’m definitely going to purchase Huel now 🥘
I'm glad this helped out! I'm going to try more food/ meal stuff soon!
Hey. I know it's 11 months later, but did you stick to it for a long time? And did you feel healthier ?
love the review in a "non-fitness" person point of view. Exactly what I'm looking for. I'm an RN that usually average 10k-14k steps a shift. But I got a new work at home job, and I'm afraid that losing all that activity would mess up my health. Being 40 years old with a slower metabolism does not help either. So when you mentioned that it was filling and there is no need to calculate calories and stuff, cause I don't, then I'm all for it. This will mainly for breakfast and maybe dinner. Lunch would still be a full meal for me. I know this video was 2 years ago, but thanks!
I started doing Huel Daily Greens in the morning and Huel Hot and Savory for lunch. I spend $150 USD a month for 1 full month of breakfast/lunch and then dinner I cook at home around $40 a week. Overall $300 or so a month. Which is about $10 a day. I am fairly happy with the savings and the healthier eating.
cool!
How does the daily greens taste? I just ordered my Huel starter bundle and if I like it, I wanted to try the daily greens.
@@calebhart5590 They taste like a slight apple taste, they arent bad at all. I am still going with Huel for 3 months now. Mornings I do Daily Greens + Black Edition protein then lunch I do Hot and Savory, down 25 lbs and keeping it off. Also saving a ton in the wallet lol
@@udiealot That's awesome! I was hoping to hear stories like this. This is exactly my goal. I was pricing out the greens and black edition. I think I will do this for sure. As long as the greens dont taste like dirt! haha
Thanks for the video and the review! 😎
You're very welcome!
Does tomato and herb contain gluten dairy soy or corn
This was very helpful. Thank you for being honest
Glad it was helpful!
So is this product any good if you are trying to bodybuild?
My plan is to drink Huel Black for breakfast, eat a healthy normal lunch and then have Huel H&S for dinner. With limited fridge space and only having time to cook on weekends, Huel is a real time saver. And while I can have 2 Huel Black a day, I would rather have something that I eat for dinner, not drink.
edit: I have experience with meal replacement drinks from way back in 2012, I was on a serious plan back then and I know the cons of only using meal replacement drinks (don't do it).
I am not a busy person. My issue is I am on a medication regimen that causes me to experience bouts of food aversion, nausea and cringy mouth sensory (methotrexate). I struggle to want to eat and the idea of prepping anything much nauseates me. I’m looking for something quick and easy to get inside me before my brain has time to convince me otherwise. Soups have been a godsend, but man are they salty. To add to things I’m also in my first year of my celiac journey. Going gluten free has been a real bummer for me and getting in nutrients has been a struggle. I currently eat like a 4yo because at least I’m getting calories in 🤷♀️. I’m hoping huel hot and savory will be an option I can lean on in the first few days after my injections.
Good review. Nice bloke. Gonna be an amazing doctor.
Thank you very much!
I actually really liked the Thai green curry. I also got the yellow curry and the mac and cheeze which I also liked (minus the raisins in the yellow curry, raisins ruin everything...). I did end up adding salt to all of them though. Sucks that they only have like 3 available flavors now and the price is pretty ridiculous for what it is, but it is convenient
Nice
I generally intermittent fast and have found this very beneficial for overall health improvement. I want to start Huel but wondering how i would incorporate this whilst intermittent fasting? Would one Huel protein shake followed by a Huel hot and savory meal and then an evening meal? Would this work?
I think that sounds like a reasonable way to incorporate intermettent fasting with huel products. Just make sure you're getting enough calories in your evening meal!
If you were doing a fast day you would be better with just the two 400 calories servings.
That's 800 calories so you wouldn't have calories for drinks. Should be okay with some self discipline. I'm doing an intermittent fast just now, just with home made meals but this would be a good alternative as your calories are measured out .
I am doing intermittent fasting with Huel included , this is how I do it and it works for me very well :
Wake up 7 AM - 8AM - Depending on previous night , Have 500 ml to 600 ml of water and then drink Green tea / Earl Grey / Indian Black Tea with out honey
Don't eat anything unto 11 AM
Morning breakfast : 11 AM - 11:30 AM
Lunch : Two scoops of Fuel - 400 Calories as they say by 1PM - 2 PM
Snack by 4:30 Pm - 5PM : Black tea / Green Tea with Honey and some high fibre snack like oat meal ( 50 gms ) / a fruit like apple or orange or jackfruit or avocado toast with one slice of multi grain bread
Dinner by 7 PM - 7:30 Pm - Usually very light like 200 gms of rice / 2 chapatti / naan bread with some curry (100 gms ) and butter milk
Fast for 15 hours its working very well for me somedays my stomach literally troubles me for food around 12 PM but its okay once you get used to it
I will edit and tell you how I go after one month :)
Would just like to add, weight loss is very much possible from changing our diet.. im a wheelchair use==ser, i blew up to 25 stone.. i changed my diet big time and ate as little as possible, no fizzy drinks etc and it’s 14 stone in around 18 months .. 0 exercise
Thank you so much for this video
Np!
I found the recommended 400 cal serving left me a bit hungry. This was solved with the three scoop serving 600 cal. So, I understand why you did it. Thanks for the helpful review, cheers!
Glad to help!
Just ordered 3 bags. I eat on the go almost everyday. Hoping this is a healthy lunch solution along with a car kettle!
fab
I fully agree with his comment about the Thai green curry being bland. It's incredible how little flavor is in there. It tasted like I was eating plain oatmeal with my nose plugged.
Just brought 4 bags and a box of protein bars, all from huel. I think I'll like it all from all the reviews. And each meal being sub $4 is quite a bargain these days
Yeah, I've found it to be pretty good value for me!
How was it
Ho,im type 1 diabetic and struggle with my weight,i usually take a pot noodle to work and a packet of crisps.
Do you think its worth me trying this.thanks.
I would try, all the nutrients etc u get that u don't with pot noodles.. and I'm a pot noodle lover
Would you recommend this for work lunch? I wanna leave this at work so that I dont eat take out
Yeah, I'd say it would be a great use for it from my experience! It doesn't take long to make (few mins most) and doesn't smell too much that it lingers
Nice side effect is that I doubt anyone is going to steal your lunch.
I’ve just ordered some , hoping they are easy to eat and im aiming for 4000 Calories for my bodybuilding diet routine , hoping 4 scoops per serving is easy to eat lol
I had a flatmate of mine who was bodybuilding who agreed with me that this was a pretty good starting point to improve diet. 4 scoops may be a bit much in the cup they provide you so you may need to use a slightly bigger container. Good luck with the diet and routine!
@@nafi.iftekhar thanks mate , prob won’t do all 4000 on them , but hey if it stops me dirty bulking at kfc or Burger King to get the calories and it’s only £2 for 400 calories / £4 for 800 calories it’s not that bad , high protein and it will be new for me to not have meat proteins , apparently better for the body also , I’ll eat anything really anyway so looking forward to it , thanks for the review
Cutting junk food out whilst dieting made such a difference to me so this is defo a better alternative. And you're welcome!
Love Huel. Way cheaper than my $7.99/meal at Burger King 2-4 times a day
Haha defo!
Who eats burger king 2-4 times a day??? :O
@@VaskiiiBuff 🤣🤣🤌
@@VaskiiiBuff people who really like burger king and have more disposable income than time?

Price is a con? $3.50 a meal is an amazing price point. Especially living in the bay area. I eat this while at the office and “real” food when I get home.
It can vary based on your own geographical origin. Across the pond, in certain areas, this can be quite high.
I was not going to eat huel all the time just when I struggle instead of getting a takeaway or not sure I grab huel x
That's probably a smarter idea
My Huel is arriving today.
I'm looking forward to having a reasonably healthy lunch after the gym.
I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and the gym wipes me out so I end up eating quick rubbish.
It's great post gym cuz you feel better knowing you're having something healthy afterwards instead of junk!
The price compared to most other companies is a bargain
It’s expensive but if I take a morning snack, sandwich and other items to work that’s going to exceed £2
It's interesting how people's tastes vary - I got the Thai green curry and i like it but I feel like the flavour is too intense to be nice on its own and I want rice with it! I also miss the crunch of fresh vegetables so I think I'm gonna try using it as the base for a cooked meal rather than eating it on its own
Try topping with boiled eggs and vegetables. If you don’t want to cook veggies or eggs, may be sliced onions, carrots and seedless cucumbers.
It has rice in it.
@@walkernick86 I know, but not enough to make it feel like you're not just eating a bowl of curry without rice
Thanks for teaching about this product. Very well taught. Don't let the collage teach you wrong on healing. Symptoms, cause, and cure. It's really that simple. 😊
Did you lose weight? If so how much? And how long did it take?
I believe I lost around 2kg back then, can't remember how long it took
@@nafi.iftekhar ah, how long were you on hurl?
Unhealthy and unsustainable are two separate things.
You referenced switching to Huel as unhealthy, it isn't.
But you will 100% supplement with regular meals
could they not just do it like instant cup noodles?
They do these meals in that format too.
That's only 1800 calories, how could you survive on such little calories?
Using NHS guidance, the average male need around 2500kcal and if you want to lose weight healthily, they recommend a reduction in 500-600kcl. I know that 1800 is slightly lower than general recommendation however looking at myself holistically; I wasn't facing any adverse side effects or symptoms from this diet so I considered this to be okay for myself (NOTE: this can differ from person to person so don't just think that this will work for everyone!)
As for survival with fewer calories, to make sure that processes in the body still occur, it can convert fat stores into usable energy for metabolic processes. This is the main principle for weight loss via fat.
www.nhs.uk/live-well/eat-well/cut-down-on-your-calories/#:~:text=As%20a%20guide%2C%20men%20need,healthy%20weight%20for%20your%20height.
You can lose weight by changing your diet. Eat less or move more. 500 calories below your maintenance will be one pound of weight loss
The priniciples that you mention are true! However, what should also be noted is that as everyone's body is different, calorific deficit isn't always proportional to specific amounts of weight loss.
There are a variety of things that can factor in to weight loss so when people try to plan losing weight, it should be based on what they can achieve within their constraints and what is available to them, not what others think or expect.
generally true, and plenty good enough, but definitely a bit over simplified.
@@garethbaus5471 actually it isn't.
@@alucard2010 there are plenty of studies that show huge differences in weight loss based on when and how often you eat, as well as what types of foods you eat even when controlling for total caloric intake. Although calories in vs calories out is all the lay person really needs to know about weight loss it definitely isn't the whole story.
@@garethbaus5471 how often you eat what kind of foods you eat have all been debunked. Were they peer reviewed studies? Because you claim has been duplicated under test conditions with very little result from the control group
You said after five minutes 'you're ready to eat' !!!
ya
Sounds interesting... not sure how I’d feel about drinking all my meals tho 😳
Huel savoury isn't a drink, you eat it with a fork. Like it's a proper meal
Did you really just say you can’t lose weight by changing your diet? That is literally the only way to lose weight. Exercise helps you burn a minimal amount of calories. Diet is the foundation
You are right, Diet is one of the foundations for weight loss however there are also conditions which exist where people may not be able to lose weight throught diet alone and I wanted to make sure that I accounted for this
did your bowels work ok...
yes
the problem is you HAVE to pay this high price because you have to choose 3 products. not only one for try. not good.
That is the business practice they use to get people to buy products
It's modern day gruel. I don't see it being a bad thing, but I wouldn't only subsist on it either.
As I stated in the video, trying it out for every meal was a challenge I set myself for this video; in reality, it's best to have it as part of a balanced diet. In general, using products like these is about balancing nutrition and taste with prep times and convenience.
(Also, as a side note, if you're going to mention the word "gruel" on a "huel" video, the pun "gr-huel" is right there :) )
The "hot" part is a lie. Even the hottest one is bland to me. Not a big problem, a few drops of hot sauce and good to go.
I'm someone with a high spice tolerance so it wasn't too hot for me but for others, they would find it very hot or just right for them
Soy isolates, and dextrose are not good. Look for things that don't contain those. Period.
As far as I'm aware, Soy isolates are a source of protein from soybeans and dextrose is an isomer of glucose, both things which are safe in moderation
Why is he so jumpy in the video
I just am
Yup
Can't lose weight by changing ur diet?? Good thing ur going into medicine and not nutrition.
Weight loss can be much more complex than simply changing intake. The NHS has more information about factors into weight loss and healthy weight.
www.nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-weight/?tabname=you-and-your-weight
@@nafi.iftekhar dude I'm guessing u didn't read the link you sent me. It really only talks about changing ur diet.
it also talks about various different medical reasons which can be factors. For some people, losing weight can be just to change their diet but it would be neglectful to not look at and consider other factors as part of the wider, bigger picture
@@nafi.iftekhar fair enough but you kinda moved the goal post a little.
Bruh your brain works in a very simple way
I found this video very bad. Its not that expensive, per meal its very cheap. Yea you have to spend the money, just like the store. its not Expensive at all. Also you can loose weight by changing your food and diet. Calories in Calories out. But this is your own Opinion.
Yes
Its fkn disgusting dont even try it.
Each to their own opinion, it certainly isn't for everyone!
dude can you sit still ?
Dude, you literally can lose weight purely by changing your diet. Hopefully that module will be coming up at med school soon.
While this is true for a large number of people, losing weight isn't as simple as changing diet. There are alot of different factors that can go into a persons weight (muscle, fat, bone, diet, genetics, hormones) so it is important not to neglect them and oversimplify it to a single cause-and-effect.
@@nafi.iftekhar some things are just simple. 100% of people can lose weight by altering their diet.
I think he means that if you are already kinda fit and lean, than loosing Actuall fat weight is harder, and to keep you muscles up you do need some exercise.
I was and i am still fat, but i lost 25kg only by changing my diet, but when you have this much far, its not that hard.
Losing weight through diet alone is not sustainable - holistic approaches to healthy weight loss is what can change the way your body works for you in the long term.
Agreed!
Hum….would be less distracting if you wobble a little less….I actually feel dizzy after watching you move that much…
👍
