In the meantime I've watched many dozens of fly tying videos from all over the world - and no one but you can tie feather wings with such precision and confidence.
Looking a wee bit like a cross between a hen blackie and a multitude of other clyde flees Davie cracking fly, take fish all day this time of year! I would love to see you tie up some clyde styles sparse. Again a cracking fly Davie!
love this wee fly Davie great stuff again! This would work well over here in Ireland!oh and love the bleach tip!Thats a new one on me!Keep up the good work big man!
Excellent looking fly, I have tied one with a mallard wing, good looking fly but looks a bit scruffy compared to yours, I'm sure it will work though. Thanks for the video
What a beautiful fly and what a refined tying technique. I'm really amazed, Davie. A question, do you apply some glue on the Water Hen feather before cutting the segment to make the wings? Thank you, best regards from Argentina
Hi Francisco, No I would never do this as it would make the wing stiff and lifeless in the water and cause your fly to spin..Waterhen is a lovely feather to use and makes a beautiful wing, I'm glad you liked it and thank you very much for the kind words.. All the very best Davie..
Davie. Will those quills you use take on color very well if a guy tries dying them say olive? I was thinking dyed olive they would make a great, realistic body for a damsel nymph.
Hi Steve, They do take the dye really well though after dyeing I soak them in hair conditioner to soften them as they can get a little brittle.. All the very best Davie
@@DavieMcPhail Davie, thanks for the reply. I will definitely give your method a try. I think dying them a light olive would be great to give the appearance of a segmented shiny shell type of body for the damsel nymph. I can build a tapered body out of an olive yarn so the quill lays right as it's wrapped. Then coat the quill with a few coats of varnish to give that hard shiny appearance. Maybe it's a fly you would like to do in a video? Just a thought anyway. Thanks again Davie, happy fishing.
Continue to copy your wee wets but still having difficulty using blackbird roadkill which tend to split in the winging process. Is there an additive you can use to harden up prior to tying? Thanks for you wonderful instruction.
Davie, how are you? I need these Peacock Quills! Here in Brazil we have difficulty finding this kind of material. I tried to take a bleach bath for a few peacocks eyes to remove the hair, but eventually drying out the quills. These quills you use, seems to be longer and wider than I have here. You make the removal of hairs, or it is already stripped? Thank you. Rafael Uchella Rodrigues
+Davie McPhail ok that I already know but I wonder about hackle that you use on body this white with black corner what the name of it?because I'm not so good to hear the name of it.it is a peacock quill?
Hi Mattias, I bought the dyed black hen capes from the Glasgow Angling Centre but I did look through them as you have to pick the ones you like, they can vary in quality as these are just cheap capes although the dying was really good...Indian or Chinese hens are good enough to tye these flies as I have used them since I started tying.. All the very best Davie www.fishingmegastore.com/stillwater-indian-capes-aa-hen-necks~2370.html
Hi Robert, I've never really measured the mix but I would say around 30% bleach as it can make the quills brittle if you use too much though I use hair conditioner to soften them again.. All the very best Davie....

Waldron vices are available still but cost approx £250, good vice though.
👍👍
Another masterpiece. Thanks!

Davie,
Is there anywhere I can purchase a Waldron vise these days..
Many thanks,
Tailpool.
Davie how do you bleach the quill and do you use the bleach straight or mixed with water?

Hi Davie,
Any change to get HD videos in future?
I get a lot of line twist when casting these no matter how even i tie them. is there anything to do to combat this problem?
well done Davie, where do you get the bug bond?
What type of wax do you use and where can I get it?
Hello I got a question about type of hackle you use to make body what is the name of this thank you
Hi TheSiwydym,
I used a Natural Black Hen Cape for the tails and hackle of this fly but a dyed black would be ok as well...

Which brand of hen hackle do you tie with?

Just put my peacock eye into some bleach, had a coffee and found that most of the feather was gons. I'm guessing that you dont use neat bleach?
