People who think the climate doesn't affect them have no idea how it works. It will affect you regardless where you live, just in different ways. Changing weather patterns that lead to flooding, drought, extreme waves of heat or cold, increasingly dangerous events like hurricanes, and so on.

@@wolvie1618 I think the (misguided) point they were trying to make, is that those things will happen with or without human intervention and thus are not worth worrying about. It's a logical fallacy even IF they were correct, just because Earthquakes are beyond our control does not mean we just ignore their existence, we still need to prepare for them in case they happen. Same for if climate change was out of our control, we would still need to know about and prepare for it lol.

A friend of mine grew up in a very rural town on a family farm and helped out there from a very young age doing a lot of physical labor. She also has relatively broad shoulders, smaller boobs (because less body fat) and a very trained body.
Instead of being proud of that she basically learned how to hide those features with proper clothing because it is not womanly.
Ironically at home she also fought with not being taken seriously enough as a fellow worker because she was a girl. So basically she had to flip flop between appearing feminine at school, so that she is "attractive" and appearing masculine at home, so that she isnt being belittled.
Back then I didnt even notice she did this because it was so natural for her.

I constantly got asked if eggs were dairy, and it always confused me why people would think that, so I started asking them. All of them have the same reasoning: In the food pyramids they were taught as children, eggs were always in the same dairy category as milk and cheese

Might also be an English problem. "Dairy" is just a word with no inherent meaning and most people have to learn it from context. In German, for example, the word for dairy is "Milchprodukte", literally "milk products", so it's very obvious for everyone what is meant by it.

    • @me-myself-i787
      @me-myself-i787 Год назад +20

Some people do consider eggs to be dairy, because, like milk products, they came from an animal and the animal wasn't killed to produce them. Different people have different definitions for the same word.

    • @NiaJustNia
      @NiaJustNia Год назад +35

@@me-myself-i787 So I looked it up as I know the term dairy (milk products) is because the place where mammal milk is processed is called a dairy, so dairy products is literally short for products from a dairy. Apparently on old food pyramids eggs were put between meat and dairy as they are a protein. Then shops would often sell eggs and milk next to each other for decades. Somehow this perpetuated people's confusion on whether eggs were dairy. Seemingly it's all down to a decades old misunderstanding from when food pyramids were first created in the 90s and supermarkets inadvertently perpetuating the misunderstanding. They just put eggs too close to milk in the original diagram, and then people interpreted it in the way you described; dairy must mean non-lethal animal by-product, then voilà the best part of 30 years of people going "Are eggs dairy???" 😂

    • @lucymillard1230

Yep dairy means dairy products which at least used to mean it comes from a farm. Same place might make butter and cheese as well. So they got grouped together.

First year of secondary school, we're doing a thing about identifying animals and categorizing them based on descriptions. It described a bat - leathery wings and fur covered body - the teacher confidentially said it was a bird because it had wings. I corrected her - got in trouble for it - and she left the room to double-check with another teacher. Came back in and said it was a mammal and moved on so quickly. It's a wildly prevalent thing apparently xD

1:58 The map is quite misleading: It shows where homosexuality is 'not illegal by law' but countries like Russia, China and Turkey - which all have LGBTQ censorship laws which are used to discriminate homosexual people's life as an individual - shouldn't be on a 'legal' list like that. Chechnya in particular (a Russian republic) - where homosexuals have been executed by the state and where its president openly says "There are no gay people in Chechnya. And if there were, they should go to Canada." - is a good reminder that people should do their research before travelling to and thereby supporting a certain country. Just because there is no law which explicitly says that LGBTQ people will be imprisoned or executed, doesn't mean that the state or society won't try to find loopholes to silence or eradicate people.

What i learned about it was (literally translated) the Hardy-Weinberg (HW) balance, which is in play when there is: 1. No incest 2. No Migration 3. No gene flow, 4. No natural selection, and 5. Random mating. As soon as one of these 5 factors is not followed there is no HW balance.
It goes further into detail with like the gene-factors within a population, that shouldn't change going through generations, if said population is in HW balance.

Wolf reintroduction was extremely helpful to Yellowstone. There were way too many elk in the park, so much that many elk were dying of starvation and sickness because of the overgrazing and the overpopulation. If they hadn't reintroduced wolves, the ecosystem in Yellowstone would've completely collapsed. The wolves saved Yellowstone.
Wolves are a keystone species. They're an extremely important factor in the ecosystem. Without them, many things would be thrown out of balance. A ecosystem needs an efficient apex predator to keep prey populations in check and keep biodiversity.
Also, wolves aren't dangerous to humans. They are extremely skittish, and the only reason they would attack is if you got too close to their den, hurt one of their family members, or if they were sick and/or starving. In the last 100 years, there has never been a recorded human death by wolf. Injuries, yes, mainly because people are stupid, but no deaths.
Since the Trump admin removed wolves from the ESA, they have been under the gun in the US. Some states protect them, others lead wolf hunts in the spring and winter, when pups are born (spring) and females are expecting (winter). So, wolf *pups* are being killed when they're barely able to walk and pregnant wolves are too. It's barbaric and completely wrong and not rooted in science at all. They need to be protected.

Classmate: Just try acupuncture, they'll fix it in no time!
Me: Uh, I don't think that'll work, it was a head injury...
CM: No, acupuncture works miracles, it'll really help
M: If it would help so much, why wasn't he referred to an acupuncturist?
CM: Because doctors nowadays only believe in modern chemical medicine, they don't like to think about other remedies
Literally all I could do was stare at her and walk away. I go to a Steiner (Waldorf) school so I should be surprised that I haven't encountered this kind of thing sooner, but I never really expected to find one of these people for real.

They are raking in the bucks, but want businesses to lose money so that they can make their money. There is absolutely no guarantee that a mention of the company in a post will generate any extra business for that company. And I read an article in a local community magazine (Hamilton, Ontario) where many local business owners who had provided expensive goods and services to influencers said it made absolutely no difference to their business. It's been said many times before, but when will influencers realize that they're not entitled to anything for free and companies cannot pay their bills with exposure.
And I've found, over the last few years, that the things that influencers are requesting for free are getting more and more expensive...vacations, flights, hotels, entire weddings. It's ridiculous. They also love to target small boutique businesses because their product/service is niche or unique...these businesses especially can't afford to provide hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of freebies in return for nothing.

As an English Studies major, I looked into English language teaching one year and I can say that in Europe they generally teach British English, while in South/Central America it's US English. It has to do with proximity and who people are most likely to interact with (someone from Argentina is more likely to meet US citizens and the French are more likely to meet British people). There are exceptions, such as fancy private schools in South America that teach British English and teachers in Europe who teach more American (the number of these teachers is going up because of US media being so popular), but it is what's more common.

For those actually wondering why girls usually remove a tampon when they pee; there's an attached string for you to pull it out. It can get COVERED and saturated in toilet water and pee. There are indeed separate holes for your pee and inner organs, but you can't keep the string sanitary when you go to the bathroom, and you can't just take it out and put it back in. It comes packaged in a little tube that you have to put inside of you, and you push the tampon thru the tube and remove the tube. The tampon expands in you, and you throw out the tube because it is no longer sanitary. While it remains narrow enough to easily come out, you can't exactly put it in. That, and health concerns. The blood it absorbs doesn't exactly stay fresh either. They need to be changed frequently, and more often than not the most convenient time to do so is while you're about to go to the bathroom anyways.

34:00 in germany we actually have the rule be a bit more vague. We call it KlaPoPuStri, which is short for Klammer vor Potenz vor Punkt vor Strich (Brackets before power, before dot, before line) Dot includes both multiplication and division (as the multiply sign is often written as a dot) and line includes both addition and subtraction. It shows more clearly that some points can be of the same level of priority.

This American understands that English was originally from England. When I’ve travelled it was fun hearing English spoken as a second language and being able to tell whether the speaker learned American or British English by their accent and word choices. I was about 15 when I heard and came to understand that. It was quite cool.

Yeah, you can also tell from which states in America a person is most likely from by their accent and word choices as well. To simplify them as American and British English...is just oversimplifying them. Even in Britain you can find different accents and word choices. Its fun trying to figure out where someone is from by these type of minute differences.

Mendelian genetics is a basic form of genetics that they taught me in highschool and first year biology. Its like the orginal genetics when we knew genes existed, and sort of how it worked, but not nearly as much as we know now.
Mendelian algebra is a mathematic model to help show simple genetics most likely spread in a population. Not really much to do with evolution except for the fact they both have genetics involved with them

Nevermind that we have the genomes of Gorillas, Chimpanzees, Bonobos, and Orangutans as well as Humans. And we can compare them. And _have._
The overlap is well over 95%, with the greatest difference being between the Orangutans and the rest. Humans share over 98% of our DNA with chimps and bonobos.
Then there's the DNA overlap between a variety of different species on Earth. All life shares a lot of common genes.

@@John_Weiss or how the majority of that DNA that we share (or just contain in general) is absolutely useless.
Some of it is from retroviruses that inserted their DNA into our ancestors millions and millions of years ago.
Other junk is litterally there to be lost and nothing else. It just acts as a buffer between the small important bits, and the outsides, which lose a pair of codons every time DNA duplicates
But most importantly, a suprising portion of our DNA was just added by mutations, and has no purpose or use at the moment. Its just been added in a way that doesn't interact with existing DNA, and doesnt have the capability to do anything whatsoever on its own. It doesnt even have the purpose of waiting around for decades to be destroyed naturally like buffer DNA. It just does nothing, often never had done anything ever, and may very well continue to do absolutely nothing until we as a species die out.
Yet I'm supposed to believe a all knowing being made us. As if he fell asleep at his metaphorical key board every time he went to make a living thing, and his face just typed in a shit ton of extra letters
