Xperia 1 III vs Pixel 6 - Camera Comparison

  • My comparison between the cameras of the Google Pixel 6 and the Sony Xperia 1 III.
    I test out photo quality aswell as video quality with the various different lenses.
    Who is the winner?
    Does the Pixel 6 justifies its hype in the camera department?
    Is Sony producing the better video?
    What do you think?

    This was an interesting comparison. I really liked you had both video straight from the phones and later, a side by side. Differences became clearer. Since audio is such a big part of a video, it would have been great if we could hear and compare how the on board microphones treat the same scenarios. This might have happened in traffic portion of the vid comparison, but not sure. Hope this feedback helps. Thanks for comparing these phones and making this content.

    I think the Xperia won this one. It seems like it is capturing the world authenticly. While the pixel is adding saturation and blurring the background (both of which seems over done in my opinion). I must say, I'm surprised! When I saw the title of this video, I automatically assumed the pixel would have won easily! Very cool video!!!

    Winner by far is the Sony because it is based on photography science while the pixel 6 does a very few photo science but a huge amount of computer science for over realistic results. Sony is more natural. And I would like to correct a wrong info propagated by Google and other smartphone builders such as Samsung. A 50 or 200 megapixel sensor is NOT super large. It has the exact same size in millimeters as 12 or 8 megapixel sensor installed in smartphone (it can change on photo cameras and on few smartphones such as the Sony x-1 pro with a 1 inch sensor). Since the sensor has the same size, the size of the pixels are bigger on a 12 mp than a 50 mp or 200 mp sensor. Bigger the pixel is, better the light than comes into it is better. The only advantage of sensor with a lot of pixels is the cropping capability. But still, the sharpness of the image can be not that good. And if you look at the specs of the pixel 6, you will note that the post processing is combining pixels from the 50 mp sensor to give a final image of 12 mp. What's the benefit of that? I have not clue. And the pixel 6a has now a 12 mp sensor for identical photo results...
    I just have one question on the pixel 6: is there a full manual control of the camera (iso, shutter speed, white balance, exposure...) as it exists on the Sony Xperia ? It looks like it does not have that feature, which would confirm that is fully based on computer science).

    I enjoy your videos. Sony Experia and Google Pixel have been developed for two different markets. Xperia is for photographers who want to take photographs. Pixel is a suoperior point-and-shoot. It's like comparing a spotts care and a four-door sedan. It's apples and oranges. I wonder how the "pro" mode on Pixel would compare to Photography Pro? I don't think Sony is even attempting to compete for artificial intelligence point-and-shoot ability.

    Hey mate as far as HDR is concerned I do not trust it on photos and videos (My next video will be THE HDR LIE) on my channel. Anyone who has been to the Mall of Dubai knows that the giant Aquarium there is always BLUE. Now with my mark 1 with HDR OFF its blue (exactly what my eyes saw), yet with HDR ON its a bright green (the raw files are on my channel already) showing that HDR is not 'The Magic Bullet' to fix issues that people think it is. In addition with still having HDR on prevents one having full access to the manual controls on the Xperia 1 mark 1 and indeed I take BETTER and more accurate shots with it off. As you know I also have shot a fairly popular video of the differences between Cinema Pro and Video Pro (results) and why the former is not WYSIWYG. I will be interested on what your take is on it.

    • @lltechview
      @lltechview  2 года назад +2

      I did not notice a huge color shift with HDR enabled on the 1 II or 1 III. Like I said in the video it flattens the image quite a bit(less contrast and a bit more greyish haze added). So in post you need to edit it a bit. Though huge color shifts I did not notice. Though yeah the Xperia 1 had some different colors and issues anyway. So maybe a specific problem with it.
      Looking forward to your video

    • @theSFCchannel
      @theSFCchannel 2 года назад +2

      @@lltechview Hey there I noticed that on my Mark 1 , as you know I have Video pro installed on my mark1 and I experience the same issues. CINEMAPRO (It renders inaccurate colours) on video pro it does the same as you suggested. It greys out the video and as you said flattens the colours, rather like if one has engaged VENICE colour LUT in Cinema PRO.............but with much more grey haze. Having said that if you HDR is not enabled there is very little if any colour correction (in video pro) needed (as shown in my video-the Cinema Pro vs Video Pro one, but im not uncouth enough to post a link here on your channel)

      Just for information, humans are seeing the world in HDR. Our eyes with collaboration with brain do the job - we don't see blown out highlights or "underexpose" the reality. So I certainly see that Pixel photos are much closer to what I saw most of the time. Sure sometimes Pixel overdoes HDR but that's okay to me - a bit better than reality picture is better than gloomy grim "natural" look.

    Anyway, from this review I heard that the photos coming from these phones are very very close which is a failure for Xperia. Just because it costs a way more than Pixel. Another thing is ability to do even minor repairs. Be sure you never crack even back glass of Xperia 1 III - it's impossible to find a replacement part.

    • @lltechview
      @lltechview  2 года назад +4

      Keep in mind I only tested Auto mode and did not even dig into the Xperias manual mode because that would beat the Pixel 6 easily. You have a full fledged camera control on the Xperia by default fully supported.
      The Pixel 6 needs third party apps for this and if you want a good UI even paid.

      @@lltechview Please try Xperia's Pro photo mode vs any Pixel auto mode. Again, my fight with Xperia mark 2 proved one thing - Pro mode is rather nice marketing trick designed to make you feel better, just like a pro :). So undoubtedly it brings the pleasure of interaction with device but this is it, sorry. In other to get something similar to what Pixel does for you on Xperia, you have to use Pro photo mode and Lightroom after that. Unfortunately that is the price you pay for pleasure of using Xperia.

      It might look like it but is super comfortable to use also one handed. The Pixel however is too large imho and does not feel so comfortable in the hand if you want to use it one handed. Also usually you use your smartphone in portrait mode and the Sony with its "longer" display can show more content this way.

    the video one is awful on both but pixel is slightly better. the sky in sony is overblown and you look very pale and lifeless. pixel 6 video is more saturated, well, it's better than looking like dead person talking. selfie video in pixel has improved. i don't know with sony cuz the last time i had it, it couldn't handle bright areas well and my skin looked bright and pale. the video also had so much framedrops. pixel 6 video is very smooth and lively, but it's a but oversaturated

    Having more than long enough experience with Xperia 1 II / 5II I can't say that the photos coming from them are more natural than, say, Pixel 4. To my opinion Xperia tends to make things look worse that it really is. Underexposure, blown out highlights and focus issues are damn too often. Overall photo quality on Xperia is worse due to lack of HDR and proper computational photography - two things designed to compensate miniscule lens and sensors size. Perhaps, Xperia 1 III might be better.
