Worked with him @ WMXD in Detroit back in 94 / 95. He was one of the nicest guys in radio. Also pipes from God! Great to hear his voice again. Thanks for this video!
WLS radio was received in northern Alabama at night and I remember departing work and listening to his show from 9:00 PM - 1:00 AM. Always enjoyed his shows and him - you had the feeling he was engaged with his listeners and doing the very best. He is among the best DJs in the history of radio.
Loved listening to Bill while he was at Deetroit rocker WDRQ!! In the early AM he would say " Get the hell out of bed, hit them boards"!!!!! Thanks Art for bringing it back!!!
I did morning drive with Bill at WPGC-FM/Washington in 1988-89 and treasure the fun and strength of our collaboration. Bill was quick and bright - and a deep thinker, too. One of his "bits" was a conversation with his "Id" that went way into the mind - yet it was also great entertainment. He, his wife, and daughter were also personal friends. I was in Chicago on a business trip the day Bill suddenly passed. I struggled to keep my composure.
Ah Bill Bailey...thank you for the memories you gave my brother and me on your show on DRQ. The 400lb pervert and his sister still talk about you often and miss the wonderful voice and humor that began our day. This awesome tribute brought tears to my eyes. Rest in Peace, golden voice.
I listened to Bill every morning on the long commute from Grand Rapids to Grand Haven, on WGVU, Real Oldies. Loved his humor and smooth delivery into each tune he spun. Thanks for posting Art! I still miss him, every time I turn on my radio I say a prayer...
I would listen to this professional in Ohio on The Big 89 WLS. Grew up in Ohio between Toledo and Cleveland. Best reception was in the winter. GOD BLESS YOU BILL.
Bill was the friend of a friend and someone I listened to frequently in Grand Rapids. This video proves what I heard day in and out, he could hammer his message just inside the post. My prayers to his family and godspeed.
I got to know Bill Bailey personally by listening to him on-line @ WGVU-am in Grand Rapids, although I had heard him when I was younger on WLS & WWDJ NYC. He was one of the cleverest people with whom I ever corresponded via e-mail. I would send him articles & material which he used on his morning show. A true gentleman & wit. RIP.
Excellent, EXCELLENT tribute to a man I worked with at WLS and loved. (btw, I was the one who got the razor blade and stole the cookies from the display case and made sure that no one on the night crew went hungry. - Al Rosen
Bill Bailey was a friend and one of America's Great Broadcasters. I first worked with Bill in St. Louis where we, along with a very talented staff, were part of the re-birth of KWK. Bill and I, best buddies, lived in the same area or St. Louis (Vinita Park); our families were close; and we spent quality time together. In addition to being a very creative Air Personality, Bill also racked up years as a Manager (Program Manager). Bill introduced me to the idea of broadcasting "Speed Trap" locations--something that was often done on KWK (I lifted the idea and took it with me when I left The Gayway City--Thanks Bill). RIP. You will always be loved.
One of the greatist ANOINTED announcers of POP AND R AND B and such a smooth sound with a trackrecord of KICKING ASS in both generes Pround to plug the fact he gave me a congratulary call before I took my first Commercial gig in 1981 ONE OF THE BEST WHO DID IT AND GOT AWAY WITH IT 4 CHUCK LENONARD barely has William "Bill" Bailey beat!!! but over the two while on this earth, FRANKIE CROCKER OF LATE WAS ALSO SMOOTH, CROSSOVER but knew his BUSINESS and got PAID before TOM JOYNER DOUG BANKS and others in the R and b game!!
What a great story he told about his daughter and how he and his wife came about naming her. I never had the chance to listen to him on live radio, but now, after viewing this, I wish I had! :)
I remember hearing him on WIXY 1260 in Cleveland where I grew up in the mid 70's...this is the first time I have seen his face behind that golden voice! R.I.P Bill Bailey!
Bill Bailey was more than just "The Duke of Louisville" he was "The King" of Lou. radio. He gave so many of us great fun and entertainment over many years. Truly missed. R. I. P. Bill Bailey!
Yup, I'm still here. I just retired from working at WBBM for 36 years. I still work with them on the Chicago Bears broadcasts though. I hope things are great in Vegas!
This is not the BILL BAILEY known as "THE DUKE OF LOUISVILLE" on 790 AM radio station WAKY from the 1960's to the 1970's . I would recognize his voice immediately as I grew up in Louisville , Kentucky .
Y? the famous two story house used to be across from the "Y" on Pearl Avenue NW, GR Radio Legend. "TheVic" btw coffee is "hot" at Big Boy! thanks Art!! "i know what i want & know where i am going" ,, quote from Bill in his former LHT Ofc.

God I miss "The Big 89!" All that great music. And this wonderful guy! Rest in Peace Bill Bailey!
I remember hearing Bill's first moments on WLS. One of the first things he said was, "What an experience THIS is gonna be!"

Caught him on WOKY Milwaukee in the mid-70's...perhaps a short stint there. But what a great late talent.
