Great video! Thanks or the information, I just ordered the same set up. Just waiting on Matuska’s slow shipping on the arbor and wheel so I can get started. The motor and coupling arrived in two days. This set up saved me hundreds compared to what McKenzie and Matuska wanted for their bird flesher’s. Good luck on your new endeavor.
Have been thinking of making one myself. Fleshing with scissoring had me wondering if taxidermy was for me (and I'm a patient person, too). This is so simple, I may just make my own this summer and see if it goes a little faster!
Appreciate you watching! I fooled around a little with that way too but seemed like it would take forever! I’ll prob use them to get the big stuff at the beginning then switch to the wheel.
They got them on the Matuska website and the attachment you will need is on Amazon I had a buy a few different ones and got one to fit . I’ve since moved up to the heavy duty flesher from McKenzie supply bec the one I made is perfect for ducks but won’t do anything for geese. Thanks for watching!
Yes if you want it closer to you having the tote be more shallow would help that. I went with what I did so I can ensure the entire bird is in the container. When working with geese I wouldn’t want the fat being slapped around on my kitchen table when moving the skin around. All personal preference!
It’s been a bit since I uploaded this video so it could be discontinued. Any motor works tho to be honest as long as it’s not some super high horse power one. That’s what matters the most
@@DuckalopeOutdoors I spend hours defatting ducks, I think I'm going to make the move and build a deflesher. You have truly inspired me. I've been a taxidermist for 20 years and I mainly mount ducks. This is definitely going to help.
How’s the motor holding up? Curious as to how many birds you’ve done and whether you’d change anything. I’ve heard of fan motors not lasting. Any issues with high temp shutdowns?
It’s holding up. I’ve done around 300 birds with it now since I’ve built it. I would try to figure out a way to bring the wheel further away from the motor to allow more room for working with larger birds like geese. Also the screws inside the container that holds it to the board. Cleaning up around the screws to keep fat from running down to them and possibly getting thru could raise issues. I clean it after every bird tho. It’s been lasting and I like that the wheel will stop even by grabbing it with your hand so that way you won’t get the spin of death on a bird if one happens to get caught up. I haven’t had an issue with it over heating.
@@DuckalopeOutdoors that’s awesome to hear! I’ve been using a drill that works fine, but It’s pretty loud and janky looking lol. I’m gonna build your model, thanks for the video!
Did it work good? Some of the other ones I see have a lot bigger motor Iike a 1/3 or 1/4 hp and this motor is 1/75hp I think is what it said. But if it works good I think I'll give it a try
@@cam_cecil thank you 🫡 I never had issues with it. Just won’t work on geese. If you need to do geese I suggest to get the heavy duty flesher from McKenzie that’s what I use now. But nothing wrong with this set up starting out
@@DuckalopeOutdoors or would it work for something like a raccoon hide that the majority is fleshed but use the wire wheel to get the last remaining stuff off?

Appreciate it! Hope it all works out for ya!! I haven’t had any issues with mine. Good luck! 🤙🏼
A professional video with the passion of a true sportsman.
Thank you!!
Dude... I ordered all the parts that you listed. It works fantastic
Perfect!!!! Glad it all worked out!!!
Here we go!!! Can’t wait to see all this come together and how you end up doing
We shall see!!

I totally suggest it!!! Saves time and easier in my opinion! Let me know how you do!
I’ve done a couple birds with some curved scissors. Looking forward to getting a wheel and doing some more birds this year. Cool video man.
Appreciate you watching! I fooled around a little with that way too but seemed like it would take forever! I’ll prob use them to get the big stuff at the beginning then switch to the wheel.
Very cool setup and good luck buddy!!
Thanks! And thank you for watching! Hope you are doing well!
Got all the stuff coming! Great job!!
Nice! Good luck and take your time not to rip holes! I have done 10 birds with it so far and still runnin strong no changes.
I just ordered everything to build mine, I'll let you know how it goes
Awesome! Good luck!
Can’t wait to see how the mallard takes to the wheel.
Me too! Hopefully I don’t mess him up to bad.. if so he was just practice but went to good use!
Hi great video. What are the dimensions of the top and bottom pieces of wood on the stand?
Idk I just cut to fit
Take your time on fleshing it’s one of the hardest parts of doing waterfowl
Sounds good! Appreciate you watching! I’ll be taking my time for sure!
I know this is a long shot because it's a 3 year old video, but i can't find a wire wheel and arbor anywhere. Are there other options?

I would want the wheel a little closer to me. So maybe a shallower tote?

Sup bro? It's Baum. Loving the channel.
What’s up man! Appreciate ya! I’ll hope over to yours and sub 🤙🏼
Great deflesher, Amazon says the motor isn't available, can you recommend another one? I really appreciate it

20 & 30 years & you will find you're still learning something new. It's a career you spend a lifetime learning.
I’m ready for it! I enjoy the process and it’s a way to keep waterfowl a year round thing!

@Duckalope Outdoors ok cool beans thanks for the video it helped alot. Do you have any more on your actual mounting process?
@@jesseflugel4489 I will this coming spring I got tons of birds to do up so I’ll be recording all of it 🤙🏼
When you were picking a motor did think about a sewing machine motor?
@@jesseflugel4489 I never looked into them
Hope you have a good way to clean that brush! I imagine it could get nasty quick.
Im sure some dawn dish soap and water can get it back to clean. This is what the actual taxidermy ppl use so gotta be a way!
@@DuckalopeOutdoors for sure. You'll know in that TN heat if you'll it's not clean 🤣😂

Would a 1000rpm motor be fast enough?
I would t go slower than this one.. I feel like it’s just fast enough to cut thru the fat
how much did you pay for electric motor thanks
I put the link in the bio of the video I don’t believe it was to much maybe 30 bucks if that
Could I use it to thin hides?
I don’t think it will work for that unfortunately..

You need to wire in an on- off switch.
One of these days I will!
what is the rpm of the motor
Ehhh idk .. I think I put the link to it in the description off Amazon
@@DuckalopeOutdoors sorry saw it just after posting

Metal fiber brush or plastic fiber?
Metal fiber, I purchased at Matuska
Make sure to wear some safety glasses those wheels will shoot out the wires.
Will do! Thanks for the heads up!!! 🤙🏼🤙🏼
👌🏾💪🏾🌱
Hope you are doing good over there! 🤙🏼🤙🏼
matuska do not sell those small electric motors cheers
It’s off Amazon. I got the wheel brush off Matuska and the adapter I believe. The info is in the description of the video. Thanks for watching
Does this spin clockwise or counter clockwise?
This one spins counter clockwise I’m left handed so it made it easier on me vs my Dakota heavy duty one is clockwise
