  • Getting ahead of Music Producers is not what you think. It's not some crazy music marketing scheme, or some spotify trick. It's not a perfect morning routine, or the most efficient time to make music. Getting ahead of other music producers means doing- what they aren't... In this video we'll go through those things and how you can leverage "doing the opposite" to truly get ahead.

      So how do you identify what is a trend for a given genre when there is so much variance with a single record label? Probably a dumb question, but I felt the need to ask.

    Avicii is a golden good example! He risked losing his career in 2013 bringing out a live band on a EDM festival to perform his new music. But it later payed off with songs like Wake Me Up and Hey Brother. Mixing EDM with acoustic guitars, live instrumentals, pop, blues and so on.

    Love this one! I did this without realizing it in 2012-2013 and I toured as a DJ/Lyricist/MC/Artist for a few years as a result. Then I got stuck and dove into music production... and then I got stuck again. What I was missing was Cosmic Academy!! Man if I'd discovered you guys back in 2019 when I felt stuck... It would've been a game changer. Better late than never. If you're reading this and you're considering applying for the program, DO IT!! I can't get the past 4 years back but I can apply what I learned at Cosmic now and pick up where I left off. Thanks Justin!!

    Not sure if blending Jazz and Techno is contrarian enough...? Then again, Idolizing Jeff Mills and seeing him heading in that direction, maybe I'm not taking enough risks... Oh, did I mention I jam live sets from scratch on synths and drum machines, with no pre-prepped loops/patterns or samples? Feels like I'm in the fish under the sea dance in Back to the Future and feeling like, maybe they're not ready for that yet.

      drunk people dont care about whats going on on stage, all they care is how it sounds. You could be juggling turntables with your feet; if DJ GenericMix has more popular sounds, he'll get ahead of you

    • @JonathanRCross
      @JonathanRCross 2 месяца назад +1

      @@joao3547 agreed.
      Although I think it also depends if they can see what you’re doing. If there’s no frame of ref, it’ll be down to the music. But if they can see you making something live, and they understand there’s risk involved and it could all go tits up (and probably will at some point), so you think that would play a part around how they react?

    It's like what I heard about eminem trying to do the music that would be normal for his time and failing, and then being himself in his expression and his lyrics and receiving the massive success that we know now

    Only thing is you also talk about going with labels not Distrokid stuff so going your own way and still getting signed please elaborate

    • @TheCosmicAcademy
      @TheCosmicAcademy  2 месяца назад +1

      Labels are always looking for something new and different from what they already have. Anjuna signed our student BEXXIE when they weren’t really signing house music. Our student Nostalgix was the first female on Confession and nothing like their other artists. You can be different/new/unique and still sign to great labels.

    In the states I’m noticing a big uptick of popularity in Latin music and country. Avicii sort of used elements of country, would be cool bringing that same energy into melodic techno. Could be a big risk for an artist to take but I think a lot more people would connect with the music if the lyrics were more relatable.

  • @Void8kies

    What about labels ... ? Would labels sign a different track ? .. usually they reject if it doesn't fit their style or sound 🥲.... And in one of your videos you talked about not self releasing and just releasing it with a label.

    • @Milo-ff9wq
      @Milo-ff9wq 2 месяца назад

      Thats a good question but I think it depends on the label perspective. There are some labels that are looking for something original, it's hard to find them and as always you also need some luck but they are there😅 im based in Argentina and with melodic techno I can say symbiosis.rec is open minded in what they receive. The EP I signed with them "Game Sense" was really something different from what you would expect and they liked it as soon as they listened to it.

      It doesn’t matter, if is good they will sign it.
      What does it mean good? Just ask yourself if you were in a big party with friends and girls do you think that if you play your song people will go crazy or will ask you to repeat it or something?

    • @Milo-ff9wq
      @Milo-ff9wq 2 месяца назад

      @thecompany2836 that's complicated to determine. I never thought crowd would dance so hard my track until I saw it... I think you can't accurately predict that because what you suggest is approached by ego

    Well, then I will never get ahead of 99% of music producers, I guess.
    I don't want to make music to be successful by thinking about what new style I can generate that many other people will like. I want to make music that I like. I already have my own style, but I doubt whether many people will like it. But I like it.
