the entire fort was built by Hyder ali.
the construction was completed in 1775.
muzaffar khan , the ruler of kurnool was imprisoned in the old building in the citadel of the fort from 1824 to1863, for having killed his wife.
In 1775 Hydarali was Captured the Bellary fort from Hande Doddappa Nayak...then he renovated only...But before that Hande Hanumappa Nayaka after the fall of Vijayanagar empire... He builted the upper fort...and in Bellary Gezetire mentioned the lower fort was construed by Hande Chikka Ramappa Nayak
It was in 1769.
Both the upper fort and the lower fort was built by Hyder Ali. The construction began in 1769 and was completed in 1775.
The proof is that the entire structure has one and the same design.
The structure in existence up to 1769 was a mud fort.
The Bellary gazetteer speaks about this aspect of the fort.
The Hande polegars were admirable rulers.
But the devil has to be given its due.
IT is clearly written in Books and Records.. please go and check... ananta.. Fort is older than Haider ali... Have some Minimum common sense...
