  • Can the Cost Effective TerraMaster F4-220 NAS compete with Synology and QNAP? nascompares.com/terramaster-f...
When I was first asked to review the Terramaster F4-220 I’ll be honest I was a little bit underwhelmed. The thing with NAS technology is that it has come forward so much these last five years and after reviewing big-boy NAS from brands such as Synology and QNAP, they have left little time to focus on some of the smaller up and coming brands that have tried to muscle into the NAS market. However, one brand I’ve always tried to make room for on my schedule here on NASCompares and the RUclips channel is TerraMaster. in the past I have reviewed their two-bay NAS and they’re USB 3. 1 Gen 2 DAS enclosure. One of the main reasons I have given terramaster an unusually large amount of focus, despite their relative obscurity compared with QNAP and Synology, is because for such a small brand they make surprisingly good hardware at a fraction of that of their competitor’s price.

Been researching buying vs building a NAS and stumbled on this channel. I must say, very good content!!! I would like to say I’m amazed you don’t have more subs, but it’s such a small niche market for NAS users.
You are educating me on the different brands and helping me to make an informed decision. Thanks and keep up the great work!

Love your channel, and your content. Just bought a TerraMaster F5-221 based on all the reviews and comparisons that I've watched from yoruself and others. Thanks for providing such fantastically detailed reviews, and demos.

I wish to buy one of it but according with the company, it's not possible to use HDD Seagate Barracuda. I know that I should be use NAS HDD but I still have some new Barracudas here. I don't wan't "throw it away". Also, will be nice to see this NAS turn on so we can have an idea of the noise sound loudness.

    Hi,
Can I put in 3 drives into raid in this nas, and then later add more disk without losing my data?

Ok so I followed a guide published by another youtuber showing how to upgrde the memory & followed it step by step (removing the fan headers as recommended). Took less than 10 minutes. I fitted it with an 8GB Crucial Laptop stick - CT102464BF160B 8 GB DDR3 1600 MHz CL11 Laptop Memory which is available on amazon in the UK priced at the wonderful price of £34.19! I went for 1600MT/s, Non-ECC, SODIMM 204 pin PC3-12800 1.35v & I now have a NAS with 10GB RAM for transcoding in plex. Very straightforward & great value for money considering the Terramaster 2gb upgrade is £45.99

Hi there, have you tried setting up VPN on your F5-221? I’m having troubles connecting to NordVPN. I can setup VPN, but NAS would not connect at all.
