    Doors concerts were crazy. Jim Morrison was living on the edge. Unless you are really into the Doors and want to check out the entire package, I suggest the studio versions of their songs. This was a great studio band.

    • @johnstorton
      @johnstorton 11 месяцев назад +2

      Thank you for saying that! I agree. There are a lot of great gems to be found in their live performances, some surpassing the studio version, but overall, your odds are better if you stick with the studio versions.
      I can DEFINITELY think of exceptions to that, though. Maggie M'Gill live in New York (Felt Forum) comes to mind IMMEDIATELY. The studio version is great, but the New York version has a groove that will stay with you all day, and you'll go to sleep with it still echoing in your head. Give it a listen, if you haven't already. I prefer most of the live Light My Fires over the studio version.

    I had the good fortune to be able to see the Doors live in concert at Kiel Auditorium in St. Louis back on November 9th, 1968. I think the capacity was just over 9,000 people and the place was packed out. Morrison was simply amazing he had the entire audience mesmerized. I swear people would have done almost anything he asked of them. I have never seen a concert where people were so totally enthralled by the artists. It was amazing and frankly almost spooky! One of the best concerts I have ever seen!

    "The future's uncertain and the end is always near".. A very interesting line, full of insight. The Doors lineup is: Jim "Mr. Mojo Risin' " Morrison-Vocals and Harmonica, Ray Manzarek-Keyboards, Robbie Kreiger-Guitar and John Densmore-Drums. A small but powerful group that changed the effect and ethos of the music industry, for a time. The early 1970's were the biggest time of growth for the music industry, and The Doors were a big reason why.

    It was what it was for the times. Morrison created most of the hype around him.....by his antics. He had a good voice and created his own persona. Drama was part of that persona.....ripe for the times. I was a 70's teen......graduating high school in 1973.....so I was there living in those times.

    The Doors were a great, immensely talented band in a decade jam packed with great talents. However, I’ve never been a particular fan of the bluesy honky tonk songs like this one. Now if you decided to play Wishful Sinful, Running Blues, Riders on the the Storm, etc., I’d be up for a listen.

  • @lifelover515
    @lifelover515 11 месяцев назад

    Thanks for not waving your arms around too much this time. Could it be you actually read my last comment? The Doors were a great band with a unique sound and Jim was a veritable force of nature, a rock legend whose hedonism and early death contributed to his mystique. They did not use a bassist, at least in live performances, relying on Ray Manzarek's low synth figures. This gave them a sparer dynamic, setting off John Densmore's dramatic fills against the singer's mesmerising dark monologues. Yes, mesmerising is exactly the right word, though this hard blues. rave-up is not typical, Some nice Chuck Berry-inspired riffing from guitarist Robbie Krieger here and Jim as always delivers like the great front man he was.

    Jim Morrison died when I was 10 so a little bit before my time. When I started getting into music a few years later, I gravitated to the heavier stuff like Led Zeppelin. I liked the Doors but didn't love them. But as I have grown older, I find myself appreciating them more and more. They have so many hits for such a short career. Jim Morrison, like Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen was one of those dudes known for his song writing. But to me Jim was easily the best singer of the three.

      Hits? You're missing a HECK of a LOT if you haven't gone deeper. You're missing out SEVERELY! I ain't jokin', buddy! Go deeper into that rabbit hole. There's no way to explain it. No way. You'll see what I mean. I promise. You don't just listen to Doors music; you EXPERIENCE it. I ain't joking one little bit.

    • @boki1693
      @boki1693 11 месяцев назад

      @@johnstorton I sort of not getting your comment? I said "They have so many hits for such a short career." So not sure why your coming after me? I am literally saying just the opposite of what your coming after me for????? On top of it, this is NOT my "go to" type of music. Which means I am only going to buy a "Best of" cd. I am NOT going to buy their entire catalogue in hopes of finding a hidden gem like a big fan of theirs would do. Such as yourself. I don't expect you to go off and buy every Led Zeppelin cd because you like a handful of songs by them either. Yet I was nothing but complimentary about the Doors. I mean what more do you want from me? LOL.

    • @johnstorton
      @johnstorton 11 месяцев назад

      @@boki1693 I'm not "coming after you" at all! My comment was meant as friendly advice. I was under the impression that you were exploring the world of rock, and digging it, then you discovered The Doors and really liked them. I was trying to steer you to even better stuff for your enjoyment. You wouldn't have to buy anything. There's good stuff all over RUclips.
