    Dani, absolutely correct, Jim Morrison had awesome voice. He’s not at his best here in 1970, however, and you can hear that in his voice. Drugs and alcohol were taking its toll and he was soon to pass away.

    Dani you could go down the rabbit hole with the doors and Jim Morrison. So much to learn. They had an indelible place in rock history for good or for bad. They Where are the quintessential representation of the tumultuous times of the late 60s and early 70s.

    I'm glad to see you react to a harder rocking song than I've seen you do. The Doors have some softer hits, too, in which Jim Morrison's voice is smoother, more like Elvis and some of the other male singers you've reacted to. If that interests you, I'd recommend "Light My Fire", "Riders on the Storm", and "Touch Me". If you want to watch an awesome hard rocking female Blues singer, check out Beth Hart with Joe Bonamassa doing "I'd Rather Go Blind" live in Amsterdam.

    So, basically this is what the doors are. Considering the Beatles pretty much came from Liverpool, these 4 guys from different parts of the country. For instance, Keyboardist/bassist Ray Manzarek played ChicAgo Blues, Californian guitarist Robby Krieger brought flamenco, bottleneck and rock styles, and drummer Jobs Densmore implemented weaved jazz and Latin with blues and pop. Jim Morrison was a ferocious reader, had a photographic memory, and wrote most of the lyrics. That’s the sum up of The Doors

    You should watch The Doors movie with Val Kilmer playing Jim Morrison. Fun fact about Val is he asked the director if he could sing in the movie. The director of course said no but said if you bring 3 samples of music and if I can’t tell the difference between you and Jim then you can sing in the movie. Val got his wish and sings some of the songs.

      @@re1840 I have listened to every doors album. I am a big fan, but half of their music is pretty bad in my opinion. Morrison and the band were probably on acid trips when they wrote it. As Morrison fell more and more in to drugs and alcohol it ruined his creative abilities. They still continued to put out some great songs, but a lot of it I find to be this really mystical wanna be poetic stuff. So yes, their hits were their best. Love Street is a song that is not as popular that I like. Built it is just a nice pretty pop song. It is not brilliant. I do really like like their first record because it is so raw. Morrison seemed really present on that whole record. Besides light my fire and break on through, I think soul kitchen, twentieth century fox, alabama song and back door man all are really good. But I still think the big radio hits are a little better. Not to touch the earth is cool and moonlight drive captures their sound nicely. are are really. People are strange, hello i love you and love me two times are decent, but not great songs. Of course I really like LA woman, roadhouse blues and riders on the storm. Peace frog is ok.

    • @re1840
      @re1840 3 года назад

      @@Hollingsworth2781 So i think Morrison used LSD as a direct aesthetic inspiration for his poetry. He almost used it as a tool. Sure Jim's heart wasn't in it at times but even with his last album with The Doors had some solid tracks: Crawling King Snake, Changling, Texas Radio. I believe the record label pushed The Doors to do an album when it wasn't necessary.
      "Wanna be poet?" Wow...
      I love there longer songs like The End, When The Music's Over, and The Celebration of the Lizard.
      I think you can clearly tell when Jim wanted to be there and when he didn't. It sucks when a record company is telling you what to do. No artistic freedom, nope they had a sound and had to stick with it.

    Dani, I am a fan of the Doors since the beginning. Only Dylan is in the same level of poet that Jim Morrison attained. My favorites are "Break on Through", "Crystal Ship", "" and "Touch Me". A classic blues piece that is marvelous is "Back Door Man". So many bands from this era were great, but there were a few that were unique and The Doors was one of them.

    Now that you've been suggested nearly the whole Doors catalog, I'll add 'Crystal Ship', 'Strange Days', and 'Cars Hiss by My Window'. Btw, Jim Morrison, the singer and main writer, died in Paris, 1971, apparently of a drug OD. And Ray Manzarek, the organist passed away several years ago. So half of the Doors are closed, and the other two are open, you might say.

    Morrison, an intellectual and poet who read voraciously, was into Artaud and the theater of provocation--inciting audience reaction. This led to his Dinner Key Theater bust for exposing himself, which was still pending at the time of his mysterious death in Paris in 1971, if I'm correct. Drunk, lout, buffoon, teen pinup idol, performance genius...Jim remains a mixed bag, all these years later.
