Appa was an all star this episode and the choreography of Aang and Zuko’s fight was amazing! Even though I understood Aangs decision to withhold the letter from Sokka and Katara and I get their anger, I was so glad they didn’t wait but went back.
Character growths in ATLA is unmatched, power/behavior/maturity , every event change not only the protagonist but the others as well, you realy get attached to them and seing them growing up is great.
This episode is actually important in the long run, but after this episode, every episode from here on out is gold. With the exception of maybe one episode in season 3, but I’m one of the people who appreciates every episode in this universe :)

I understand the ship idea but come on The guy literally calls her slanderous terms, stole her most prized possession and threatened to Destroy it and blackmailed her with it. Is that toxicity attractive to somepeople ? And yes the fight this episode was great

The first two thirds of this episode might be my least favourite part of book 1, but the fight at the end is one of my favourites. Everything about it is just so damn good. Aang and Zuko's choreography is possibly the best in the entire series, Appa gets his chance to shine as a fighter, the perfume plan is great, the anteater creature is badass, just so much to love there.
Why are people so quick to forgive Sokka and Aang's faults but completely and consistently sh*t on Katara every chance they get? Katara's faults aren't even that bad. You'd think Katara was the antagonist how they be going after her.

Its both funny and frustrating to see reactors to Avatar going through season 1. You wanna yell at them "this is a vague shadow of the quality youre gonna get!" and you often see them (reactors in general) wonder 'is this what everyone is hyping up? well at least better not say anything negative about it'.
In this episode you really get to see Sokka set up and show his intelligence and leadership skills. Katara now has bending guidance from the scrolls and someone to practice daily with. They don't show it often but she and Aang practice for hours daily. The shirshu is a combination of a wolf, giant anteater and star-nosed mole. And, June is just one of many very strong female characters that can easily defend themselves. The Avatar world is loaded with very strong female characters. They aren't damsels to be rescued by a bunch of burly men. Like much in the show, the genders are well balanced, but not over the top. If you look back on human history there were, and are, plenty of female warriors. My daughter loves the show and the books.
They don't show Katara practicing all that often, but when they do, they do show her practicing moves she ends up using. My favourite example of that is the Warriors of Kyoshi episode in the very beginning; where we see Katara practice exactly the kind of water from a bowl pulling that she later uses to pull the water out of Aangs airways to save him.
