I just stumbled on this channel. Some people just have a voice and presentation style that works. It won't be long before Matt's up there with the travel bloggers with the most subscribers. I just subscribed. Great job Matt!
Although I watched your videos many times, it is my first time to come to the comment. Your flight reminds me of my very first flight the same rout Addis to Dare Salam in Tanzania 15 years ago. On that flight, although I was assigned to the middle seat, my neigbour sitting next to me (a lady from USA), generously offered her sit and said "you can sit next to the window young man." It was very kind of her and it seems she understood it was my first flight. So we all buckle up to the long journey on B767. While we approach to Killimanjero, the captain opened a public announcement and said "We are now flying over Killimanjero and you can see the mountain top on your right." Every body hung their neck to the windows on our side. I took a photo of the mountain which I knew only from our school text book with my primitive camera which I borrowed from my brother. I still have that photo. The lady next to me talks to me all the way to Dare Salam and explains what to do in an airplane, she even helps me to fill the ET frequent flyer program. When, our aircraft landed, every one clapped to congradulate the pilots(I think this practice has dissapeared in recent days. Finally she gave me a memoribilia which is a small jacket pin of an American flag which I still keep it. Tanzani is a very nice country with a lot of things to do and the peoples are very nice and cheerful. During my stay there I bought a small book which helps learning Kswahily language, I lost that book. Today after 15 years I flew to many destinations with different aircrafts but when ever I board an aircraft, I always remember that first flight. Thank you so much for this video Matt. Please keep the videos coming out. Greetings from the rainy city of Addis Ababa Ethiopia 🇪🇹.
Thanks so much for that - a wonderful memory. How nice of that lady to have been so generous with her time and her seat! And I was on an Avianca domestic flight in Colombia last week and people clapped when we landed so it hasn't completely died out!!!
Really enjoyed the video - looks like a couple of really good flights. As you say, the service would put a few European carriers to shame (and there business class offering at that!) and those lounges looked fairly decent too. Hope you and Steve are enjoying yourselves, but I have to say your braver/crazier than me (50/50 over which one it is) for hiring your own car! BTW - not sure if you already use one, but I've had the same issue with the camera battery in the past - I now always carry a small Anker power bank (Anker 313 Power Bank) with me in my pocket and a nice lone USB-C to USB cable and keep the door off the side of the DJI, so if i can't swap batteries, It's usually easy enough to plug in the cable to the charging port on the fly, and top up as you are recording and it doesn't weigh a ton.
Cheers Craig. The "excitements" of hiring a car will feature in my videos about Zanzibar!!! I carry a spare DJI battery and can flick over to my phone in dire emergencies - the issue here was that I'd just woken up from a nap and didn't check before starting to film! Bad RUclipsr... I've avoided a power bank up to now as its just another thing to carry but its probably a bad idea to not have one!
Thanks Kidu - a few people have said I need to fly Kenyan, and Rwanda has a decent reputation, but from what I've seen so far, Ethiopian is the best African airline I've been on!
No Question matt Ethiopia airline is the pried of Africa #1 in African ask all airline in Africa but also Kenyan airline and all airline are good Its will new experience for you i guess but I prefer Ethiopia all ways
Excellent review Matt! Gotta love those individual air vents and the ability to have a decent shower after an overnight flight! As usual, the smatterings of tongue-in-cheek humour were most welcome!
Love your star alliance content! Would love to hear your thoughts about Miles and more viability vs other programmes considering you only have to qualify once per 2 years and it's double status miles in Q2
Hi! I talked a little bit about the various schemes in a video about which star alliance scheme to join - without rewatching the videos myself I recall that Miles and More had a high qualification threshhold and a high requalification threshhold. It may be the perfect choice if your home airline is in the Lufthansa group but it felt tough for someone from the UK... And if you time things right, the BA scheme can effectively offer 2 year requalification cycles and (I've not tested it yet myself) but I think you can do something similar on Aegean...
This look like a great trip Matt even though you did not have much time at your destinations, well done to Steve for getting you into the lounge and been able to get a shower must say we like having a shower on long flights freshen you up ready for next leg. As you say some airlines (won't mention any names) are needing to follow the service like Ethiopian airlines.
@@MattsPlanet of in 3 weeks to Antigua with BA business class so hopefully they have up there game after all the bad press. Best we have had was Quatar Perth Australia on the 380 then change in Doha to Edinburgh on a 350 although had some good Emirates to.
Some familiar territory and airline😊. Flying in Africa may have some challenges but crew are always friendly and the offering a lot more substantial than European short haul👍. Did some work in Dar-es-Dalaam and Mwanza in Tanzia. Flew Air Tanzania there and also stopped in Killi😊. Had a Stunning view of the mountain. Keep up the great videos and come visit us in SA👌🇿🇦
Thanks Peet. This trip was nearly to Cape Town, but Steve and I decided to save South Africa until we could really give it the time and attention it needs... Soon, hopefully!
Matt is there a credit card that Brits can get which gives lounge access or is lounge access in the UK a purely based on airline loyalty programme status?
I know the Amex Platinum comes with a Priority Pass, although it also comes with a £575 annual fee... Pretty sure a Priority Pass can be bought for less!!! Credit cards offering lounge access is quite common in the US, where the lounges have quite different financial models. Much less common in the UK. Head for Points is the place I go for credit card insights if you don't know Rob and his team already!
No plans but significant ambitions... We looked at Mombassa instead of Zanzibar, but the flights worked out better for Tanzania. Really keen to see Kenya's Indian ocean coast after this experience.... I hear the wildlife's not too bad away from the coast too!

Best video with description. Ethiopian Airlines is the best !
Thanks Mora - I enjoyed my trip enormously!
Thanks for the video. I do plan to walk up to Kilimanjaro some day. On the list of things to do.
Some day... A long walk and the altitude can annoy, but I believe it is a walk...
Great review again Matt
Thanks!
