  • Alright Del, I'm gonna talk about you... Why the heck are you sweating so badly? I love you Del; seriously, you're the man, but for crying out loud you look like you need a fix! I hope this was the film's director idea (bad idea!). "You Never Talked About Me" was the b-side of "Hey Little Girl." This clip is from the 1962 U.K. film, "Ring-A-Ding Rhythm."

The sweat adds to the performance as the song is about a guy whose heart has just been broken, he shouldn't look comfortable.

It's sad when the woman of your dreams doesn't acknowledge your existence. Del Shannon knew how to write songs & sing songs about that sort of thing. He wrote mostly about things that guys mostly wouldn't talk about. It's a cool song and yet Del Shannon had a large fan following.

Youre right, most male artists at this time didn't want to appear sensitive. The only other big artists I can think of that did this at the time were dion and maybe bobby vee

It's interesting that the minor changes in lyrics between the Drifters version and Del Shannon's version make the story very different.

Del said in an interview that the lights were very hot. His part was filmed in the USA as were most of the American acts. The film story was directed by Richard Lester who later went on to direct The Beatles "Help" movie.
Thanks for putting up the whole clip again.

It is from "It's Trad, Dad". I saw it when it came out.

Why on earth was it a B side? It should have been the next single instead of 'Cry myself to sleep' which was a relative UK failure at No 29.

great clip from ''It's Trad Dad'' with Helen Shapiro and Craig Douglas, I adore Del's version of ''I Wake Up Crying'' all the purist will cry Chuck Jackson's is the penultimate version but Del just makes the song his way, what an underrated overlooked songwriter producer and singer this man is, total respect for this gentle guy R.I.P Del, a lifetime of great songs, from Bruce Springsteen to Steve Marriott, the guy influenced a lotta singers and bands and he also had an album produced by Andrew Loog Oldham who loved Del's version of The Stones ''Under My Thumb'' what a giant amongst his peers.

Del's version is excellent. Which is the ultimate version if Chuck Jackson's is the penultimate?

Es muß nicht immer "Runaway" sein. Mir persönlich gefällt dieses Lied viel besser.Auch besser, als die Version von Shakin Stevens

I love Dels voice, but this isn’t a patch on Shakin’ Stevens version!

Totally agree! Shakin' Stevens makes it a totally different and much better song. Thanks for the tip!

Nothing special about this tune aside from a Del Shannon performance. Would have been a throw away by anybody else.

You should here Shakin Stevens version, I love Dels voice but the production on Shaky’s version and the musicianship blows Dels version clean out of the water, it just doesn’t rock in the same way!

This is a cover of the drifters. Their version is a superior version.
