These are my thoughts about the advance fuselages from Axis - their performance characteristics, their pro's & con's, and where they fit into winging and prone foiling.
I didn't try an Advance Axis fuselage until late last year and it was a game changer. I suspect there are other manufacturers that already figured this out but as I've been designing my own foils to fit Axis I had the same difference changing to the advance fuselage. I had heard, remembered some discussion that it had a more surfy, turny feel but until I tried it... So the short story is, I realised that my foils and the non Advance fuselage were both working against yaw controlled turning and were why I had been relying on widely spread feet along the main board axis and why my gybing was so retarded. So I redesigned my 2024 foils with this in mind and some other tweaks of my own and I couldn't be more pleased. Now I ride my feet in line with my board the moment I'm up on foil and my gybes are so much easier. Thinning your wingtips more than just natural chord scaling alone enhances the advantages of the Advance fuselage.
When you switched to the advance which moves the mast forward 40mm relative to the wing, did you also move the mast forward 40mm on the board track? If you do that the wing, fuse, tail, and board all stay in the same relative location; only the mast moves forward. If you did this, I don't see how advanced vs standard would affect the lift profile. I suspect the lift changes you saw were because you effectively moved the wing back 40mm relative to the board. Overall very interesting review and amazing footage!
Another excellent review Dominic, thank you. I have had my Advance ultrashort for a couple months now. Am winging 97% of time, intermediate rider (not as competant as you at non winging foiling). Recently had a week at Anse Vata (Noumea, New Caledonia. The predominant wind there is a S.E. trade wind, so cross onshore no real waves (its inside a lagoon) but great fun flat water cruising so I took my short, black fuse and mainly used my ART 1099. Had a great time. First full day back at Orewa beach, Auckland, New Zealand, out in a 10-15 knot East to North East (onshore) with small, messy wind driven swell. Had an absolute blast surfing these on my advance ultrashort with the Art 1099, it was so much fun to be back on it, don't think I will likely change back ever (maybe except for Wing Foil racing at Manly Sailing Club). Completely agree with your review thoughts yet I have only usd the Advance for winging, mainly in waves.
Thank you a lot. Very nice to see how much the yaw axis turning improved, what I want to have. I lucky have a silly short on my way. Which ART did you used? 999 or 899?
Nice review! I have heard some people say that the advance fuse might not be as fast as the standard black fuse and/or go upwind as well when winging. What are your thoughts?
@@dominichoskyns9091 so which setup you recomend for prone? im about your weight, 82kg. I just have the adv ultrashort now, and i didnt lost any pumping compared to the normal ultrashort, in fact i think i got better pumping. I normally use the 1099 or 999, will the crazyshort or silly short keep the pumping? i like to connect multiple waves, for me thats the best of prone foiling, stay up for many waves.
@@pedromarcos1472 I definitely think the longer fuses make pumping slightly easier. You can definitely get tighter turns with the shorter fuses but if you pair the advance ultrashort fuse with the p275 or especially the p250 you'll find it improves the maneuverability so much you'll not need to go shorter. My new favourite combo for prone foilng is the ultrashort advance fuse with the p250 stab. Sooooo loose but still pumps like a dream 🤙
@@dominichoskyns9091 yeah , axis just have too much to test haha, atm im testing smaller fuses, but the smallest stab i have is the 350p. A smaller stab will also make the top speed of the foil higher, which means the diference between top speed and the stall speed will probably be bigger as well. My setup for small waves now is 1099, adv crazyshort, 375p and for bigger ones 999, adv ultrashort, 350p.
He must be the most analytical foiler on the planet. Thank you for putting such effort into you videos.

Wicked review!
Amazing skills ! Although I have a one piece fuselage/mast , so I wont be able to change size ! 🤯😅 btw this place you are in looks amazing! 👏

In this video the 999 but I also use the 899 and 1099 with the sillyshort
Have you tried the new advance plus and how does that compare to the advance fuses?
Nice review! I have heard some people say that the advance fuse might not be as fast as the standard black fuse and/or go upwind as well when winging. What are your thoughts?
I've used them back to back with the normal black ultrashort and there's no difference in speed or upwind performance that I've noticed
@@dominichoskyns9091 good to know, thank you!
Hi, which stab are you using here? thanks
The p300
