it's a delay tactic that allows them to get their thoughts together on the questions they've been asked. Since they repeat that line so many times, they can say it without thinking about it as they delay. Those few seconds allows them the time to concentrate those few seconds on the question.

Exactly. She is just another mindless Marxist infiltrator and doesn't possess a shred of real sincerity to lawful American infrastructure, no, she is just pretending to be "nice" to weasel and worm her way through an uncomfortable situation so she can put it behind her and continue on her established-path of further destroying our nation. The uncomfortable situation should be a chance for her to reflect on her life's accumulated sin and betrayal, but I doubt she'll undergo any such revelations of realizing she is unworthy and a threat to what it means to be a "judge".
These people also really like words and phrases that sound good but are used to conceal lack of knowledge, lack of patriotism, lack of appreciation for the nation, etc.

“Judge” Griggsby is a glittering jewel of colossal ignorance. A first year law student understands that a private business has primacy over solicitations and prohibiting them inside a private business is entirely constitutional. A penumbra is a “shadow” or an “umbrella” where rights that are not specifically articulated are assumed to exist. It’s an implied right rather than a specific right that’s expressly stated. These judicial candidates shouldn’t even be practicing law: they’re completely unqualified.

Yes, but that would be a lie, because you can bet, they know. They just find the truth inconvenient so, for the most part, they prevaricate, talk in circles and generally do everything they can to avoid any concrete answers. Additionally, even if they aren’t avoiding the truth intentionally, they don’t want to give an answer which, however reasonable, may be used as a gotcha moment by someone down the line. CNN has no difficulty making public figures say anything they choose, clever editing, misleading headlines to articles where the real truth is buried 12 paragraphs into the piece...these are all common behaviours on the part of news entities. We have, unfortunately, created a social milieu where there is no reward for truth.

The entire point of this is political theater and to try and get a nominee to take the bait or say something they regret. The job is theirs UNLESS they say something stupid, just like most job final job interviews. So why would they bother provoking a potential loss of a lifetime appointment to a federal job or promotion? Fun fact: until the modern era of US politics there were no hearings for judicial nominees, nor is there a Constitutional commandment for the Senate to even hold these hearings for Article III judges. A simple up or down vote suffices as "advice and consent" of their appointment to the office.
