beach Richards was probably penalized for her short screen time in the movie but it took a great talent to deliver her lines - it became the backbone of Spencer’s speech at the end “ What happens to men when they get old......... they forget what true passion really is.... and what’s hard is that for your wife and me is that do you even remember it with us ....if you did you could not do what your about to do ...... those two people love each other ... need each other like the air to breathe ..... unbelievable reading

I like the way she puts in a plug for her Broadway show which she escaped for one night to win her Oscar. Probably had to promise producer Merrick so he would let her go. As for the performance, it is surprisingly subtle considering how manic it is. Her first scene when she cringes at the sight of Michael J. Pollard is priceless. She was hysterical but conversely touching at certain spots within the film. Richly deserved.

EP was sitting with Warren Beatty & Julie Christie (in a long skirt as opposed to the mini the year before. Can you post Paul Scofield's win?). That's Faye Dunaway & Jerry Schatzberg in front of her and Faye and Gene Hackman behind her. Rod Steiger & Claire Bloom are across the aisle.

he's deceptively good in that film. in fact, there isn't a weak performance in it. he had to produce it, and put up w/ Jack Warner, while giving an understated, underrated effort. Warner: "do you see whose name is on that water tower out there?" Beatty:"well,..it's my initials". if that story weren't true, you'd have to make it up. WB's was convinced it'd do no box office, while Beatty had such confidence in the project, he waived a salary, in favor of a share in the(eventually enormous) profits .they laughed at him, and he laffed all the way to the bank. no pun.
