Back when award shows had CLASS!
Estelle Parson was spectacular in B&C from start to finish, but the final scene contributed to this well-deserved win. Kudos, Estelle! You were part of the team that created one of the most astonishing films in American cinematic history.
Estelle Parsons. An incredible access. So funny and charming. She is a riot 😂😆
Estelle Parsons was spellbinding in this film. What a year for supporting actress performances! Each nominee deserved to win. I particularly loved Mildred Natwick’s performance in Barefoot in the Park .
Every so often a category is blessed with a surplus of talent such that all the nominees are deeply worthy of a win. This was such a year in the Supporting Actress category.
She looks fabulous in that simple black gown!! 🖤
Her final scene in that movie is what won her this. It’s heartbreaking.
I agree
"Buck said we were only going for a visit. And there wouldn't be any trouble."
I totally agree. I'm watching it again now on TCM. She's absolutely phenomenal and heartbreaking after she loses Buck; blows me out of the water each time I see her performance - well deserved.
I love the late '60s awards show. People were loosening up but still formal.
And she didn't have to hug 10 people before she got to the stage.
Katharine Ross was so beautiful.
It surprises me that Katharine Ross wasn’t a bigger deal than she is. She was exceptionally talented and beautiful, you’d think Hollywood would be all over her
@@breezingby2611 It happens. And the opposite happens too... the oddball success.
Mrs. Sam Elliott.
I just want her to say "Oh, Roseanne!!!!!"
Beah Richards' speech to Spencer Tracy was phenomenal. Fine actress and dignity personified.
Katherine Ross was really gprgeous
She should have won her performance was by far the best of the group. She made The Graduate better than it would have been with another actress in that part.
Absolutely.
God such a great list of nominees Estelle, Carol, Katherine, Beah and Mildred my god how can you choose?
I wasn’t too sure what was made of Estelle Parsons after Roseanne’s first leg had finished. It is of an immense relief and great joy to see her reprise the role of Roseanne’s mom the second time around, and at its fullest capacity (I just found out that she’s 90 years old)! God bless you, Estelle!
She's been an amazing actress on stage and screen.
96 years and still going!!!!
It was wonderful watching this clip! Bonnie and Clyde is one of my favorite films of all time.
Estelle was smokin'.
Parsons...a monumental talent. Well deserved for a great performance.
Estelle Parsons looked so lovely accepting the award. for best supporting actress. She did an outstanding job playing Blanche Barrrow.
Wow, what a talent pool! Those were all stellar performances in Grade A Classic movies.
Yes
I’ll always remember her in Bonnie and Clyde her running down the street holding a spatula screaming after the gun battle then jumping into the car. Then still inside the car still screaming and still holding that spatula. So funny.
Ohh thank you Doug for that remembrance and belly laugh. Grateful
wow...strong field... all of them in iconic movies
Coolest. Movie. Ever!
She was fantastic in Bonnie and Clyde...
Hello Ellie
That's a fab acceptance speech. She's happy and articulate...and has a compelling personality.
Great win!
beach Richards was probably penalized for her short screen time in the movie but it took a great talent to deliver her lines - it became the backbone of Spencer’s speech at the end “ What happens to men when they get old......... they forget what true passion really is.... and what’s hard is that for your wife and me is that do you even remember it with us ....if you did you could not do what your about to do ...... those two people love each other ... need each other like the air to breathe ..... unbelievable reading
I like the way she puts in a plug for her Broadway show which she escaped for one night to win her Oscar. Probably had to promise producer Merrick so he would let her go. As for the performance, it is surprisingly subtle considering how manic it is. Her first scene when she cringes at the sight of Michael J. Pollard is priceless. She was hysterical but conversely touching at certain spots within the film. Richly deserved.
yeah, that visual assault on her eyes, as he comes out in his underwear, is priceless. but the scene in the clearing where Buck is dying, nailed this award for her. she absolutely loses it.
Great win
I had the pleasure of meeting Estelle Parsons at a master acting class when she was touring with August: Osage County and she told us that she only took the role because she was working with Arthur Penn on a play and enjoyed it so much she thought she would work with him on this film. What a lucky whim.
Katharine Juliet Ross .. what a beauty.
Warren too.
Loved her as Rosanne's mother
Blanche was tremendously annoying and Miss Parsons palyed it so amazingly well her scenes were a joy
I love Estelle's simple black dress, can't go wrong with those
Just seen Rachel Rachel and she was outstanding so was Joann Woodward
Joanne should have won!
Warren Beatty has to be one of the most handsomest man ever...he was gorgeous back in the day
Mlh I think he was creepy tbh
Thankfully everything is subjective....
He thinks so
he was banging everyone back then.
That Walter Matthau must be beloved of the Academy--he has presented more than anybody.
Never really understood his appeal other than in Bad News Bears which he probably considers a low point of his career
Warren Beatty looks fuckin hot in this clip
M Joh - He was a terribly pretty man.
Great actress! Totally deserved!
Those were the days when there were true actors AND actresses...!!!!!
Funny that Estelle hugged and kissed Matthau. Great speech, deserved Oscar, I think.
Wow!! I've only ever seen her on Roseanne, which i love her on. To see her younger is awesome! She's beautiful! Great actress.
They chose the correct person most assuredly, but I still love the performance of Beah Richards in Guess Who's Coming To Dinner.
I love these vintage clips! Estelle was just gorgeous!
We really need to see more of Ms. Parsons in films these days! I hear she was remarkable in the national tour of "August Osage County". Sidebar, Katherine Ross is stunning.
And we still have her! Long live Estelle!
Can’t wait to see her again soon on “Roseanne”! She’s so amazing talent!
She's amazing. 👏
Jeez. What a hard choice with all those great movies and performances from these ladies of '67. My goodness😁💖
I also loved the great Mildred Natwick who stole every scene in Barefoot in the Park. "The pellet with the poison is in the chalice from the palace, the vessel with the pestle has the brew that is true." Wait. Or is it the other way around?
TheChannel.TV ... remember, the chalice from the palace was 🏰broken, so they put the pellet with the poison in the flagon with the dragon, 🐲the vessel with the pessel has the brew that is true ... 🐉...yea verily yea 🏰🤺🤺🤴🏽🧝♀️....
Great clip. ALL of the women look smashing! Look over Walter's left shoulder as he descends the stairs. Standing ever so still is Sergio Mendes who was preparing to perform The Look of Love.
EP was sitting with Warren Beatty & Julie Christie (in a long skirt as opposed to the mini the year before. Can you post Paul Scofield's win?). That's Faye Dunaway & Jerry Schatzberg in front of her and Faye and Gene Hackman behind her. Rod Steiger & Claire Bloom are across the aisle.
I have seen Bonnie and Clyde at least 100 times and each time Estelle Parson's performance still amazes me! Although the real Blanche Barrow criticized her characterization in the movie, Estelle's acting was nothing short of amazing. One of my all time favorite movies and performances. The rest of the cast ... "got robbed" that night!
Three of the five nominees are still living today (Parsons is 89, Channing is 96, and Ross is 77).
Now down to two: sadly, Channing is no longer with us.
Ross attended the Oscars last February.

Great Movie!! 🎬✨
The other nominees -WOW! Warren with Julie Christie ❤
Wow!! They all should have won!! What a line up!!!
What a group!!!! Any one of them could’ve won.
Wow, I had forgotten all about Estelle in B&C. I could only remember 2 things she's done- 1. The Betty & Barney Hill Story (a 1975 tv movie UFO Abduction, shown once in a great while on tv still, but surely is here somewhere on youtube.) and 2. Rosanne.
Love her! Warren still had that look from Splendor!
We can't go wrong, Bob and Walter are going to kill out there.
*Falls flatter than a pancake*
She screamed her way in "Bonnie & Clyde" for this win.
She learned movie hysterics from the best. Shelley winters anyone? Both Oscar winning performances.
@@jamesmonroe7751 Both played mother and daughter on Roseanne
Warren Beatty had the face of an angel. What a good looking man.
Love Estelle! ❤️❤️
They all look so serious. Love the way they quickly announce the winner and do not linger on anyone but the winner.
Very well deserved! She was amazing in "Bonnie and Clyde". Loved her in "Rachel, Rachel" too.
Perfect teeth. I always wonder at what point in their careers do actors acquire a good set of them.
I love her!
1:50 Faye and Warren happy with her victory
well deserved:)
Carol Channing and Beah Richards are wearing the same dress!!!
I skip all the fluff & get to the nitty gritty. Estelle Parsons deserved to win. Yay!!
Ms Ross is absolutely gorgeous
ROSEANNE'S TV MOM!!!
As well as about a hundred other great parts on stage, screen, and television. She's one of our great actors.
Too bad if Roseanne is what she is remembered for. An entertaining and poignant actress. Warren Beatty was a beauty whose high living days caught up with him. Lucky to have met the gorgeous Annette Benning. Wish Mildred Natwick would have won jus because.
Not only did she play Roseanne's mom but 2 time Oscar winner Shelley Winters played HER mother and Roseanne's grandmother.
The best one in "Bonnie and Clyde".
Rosanne had two Oscar winners Estelle Parson the mother and Shelly Winters the grandmother.
LOVE these old clips when it was about the acting, not the damn hair and clothes! Wish it were this classy these days!
I feel exactly the same way.👍👍.
I love how the nominees do not applaud themselves. Estelle has always been great. She was excellent in Terror on the Beach, too.
LOL. That movie won NO awards. But I like it!
MY EYES
What a great group of woman
I just finished reading Mark Harris's "Pictures at a Revolution." I find it absolutely essential reading to whoever comes across this video, because you're likely a film buff and Oscar lover too. Parsons has some good lines in the book, especially how she was initially ashamed when "B&C" was released.
Beautiful!
I’m glad in later years they started showing all five nominees faces just before the winner is announced, lots of drama !
I met her yesterday and will see her tomorrow and Saturday
Alyssa W So, how'd it go?
Achilles she was soooo nice!
Alyssa W Cool. Are you an actress, was she directing something?
Achilles she was narrating a musical piece
H
She is so CUTE!
When the Oscars were worth watching!!
At 1:49, Estelle's costars in B&C, and a cluster of Oscar luminaries with their own statuettes. Julie Christie (then with Beatty, won Best Actress award for DARLING), Warren Beatty won for Best Director, Faye Dunaway (for NETWORK). So fresh in the face there. Time flies.
Does anyone have this full show recorded? I would LOVE to see Aretha Franklin perform the nominated song "Funny Girl". This clip above is pristine!!
a great year!
Whoa Warren that smile 😍
What a tough competition
Loved her in that movie. I was 13 when it came out
Julie Christie was truly beautiful .. I could watch and listen to her all night.
OMG Katherine Ross looks like an angel from above !
She looks so pretty.
I once got into it with her on the Upper West Side after she yelled at me because my dogs were slightly blocking her way. Not a nice woman.
A lot of great movies that year.
I love estelle !
Who else is here because of her amazing performance as Babe in Grace and Frankie? ❤❤❤
She was brilliant in that movie
What a crowded field of exceptional Supp. Actress nominees for that year. On a superficial note: that shot of Katharine Ross at 1:10--wow, those eyes, that bone structure, she looks like a priceless piece of sculpture, a work of art.
Carol Channing looks like her whole life is hanging in the balance ...
Should have won Mildred Natwick, great actress of the Ford Stock Company, rip
astelle parsons great job in bonnie and clide movie a wonderfull charter acress
Warren Beatty so EFFEN good-looking
teeth come too far out of his mouth.
Thankfully everything is subjective...
he's deceptively good in that film. in fact, there isn't a weak performance in it. he had to produce it, and put up w/ Jack Warner, while giving an understated, underrated effort. Warner: "do you see whose name is on that water tower out there?" Beatty:"well,..it's my initials". if that story weren't true, you'd have to make it up. WB's was convinced it'd do no box office, while Beatty had such confidence in the project, he waived a salary, in favor of a share in the(eventually enormous) profits .they laughed at him, and he laffed all the way to the bank. no pun.
Because I wasn't around in 68, I only knew Estelle as the mom/grandmother in Roseanne!
Estelle is all class all the way the ultimate character actress.
And this was before being Roseanne's mom! BTW she was great in that too.
