In this episode we are introduced to the most important character in Code Geass: Arthur, the cat. Outside of joking, the title has a double connotation. It refers to Euphemia (the sweet princess who gets to know Suzaku) and CC (the self-styled "Immortal Witch"), but, at the same time, it refers to Cornelia who is both a princess and a witch ("Witch of Britannia" is her nickname on the battlefield; I suppose it is to allude to her implacability). Ryuk uses Light to entertain himself and CC uses Lelouch to fulfill her wish, which will be found out eventually (this is an important detail for Kenny and Montana to keep in mind). And of course, another thing in common is that CC and Ryuk keep their own secrets that could have helped Lelouch and Light respectively. Ryuk had a secret counter and CC should have hers. Other things: CC and Ryuk are immortal and addicted to a specific food (Ryuk to apples and CC to pizzas). In fact, this first meeting made me realize that both Ryuk and CC find Light and Lelouch fascinating. By the way, the contract between Lelouch and CC is a formal and oral agreement between them (as accomplices in crime) and not something that affects Lelouch and his Geass. It's not like he lost the Geass because he suddenly doesn't want to fulfill CC's wish. I highlight it because some fans give more importance than they should to that contract. Speaking of contracts, here's another similarity between CG and DN that Kenny, Montana, and subscribers will appreciate: Code Geass and Death Note are modern reinterpretations of the Faustian mythos. Already in the management and the two Fausts (Lelouch and Light) lie the differences. Also something I want to point out is that here we see the contempt of the Japanese towards Suzaku for giving up his Japanese status to acquire Britannian citizenship. As with some children of migrants and mixed races, Suzaku is too Japanese for Britannians and too Britannian for Japanese. Everywhere Suzaku is rejected. Poor boy. No one even came to meet him when he was finally is free (Lloyd and Cecile were a little late, I know). Here I felt that Suzaku is particularly lonely. In this episode, Suzaku's pacifism and altruism stand out, but also his intelligence. He knows that Lloyd is using him to get optimal results and tests on the Lancelot and Suzaku uses that to get Lloyd to let him on his Knightmare so he can stop the fight.. Another brilliant moment of the episode is the intercut dialogue between CC and Lelouch, and Suzaku and Euphemia. Both Lelouch and Suzaku are aware that the world is rotten and needs to change. They aspire to the same goal, but their means are opposite, so they inadvertently plant themselves as each other's antagonists. Suzaku, like L from Death Note, is a more heroic character (technically, Suzaku is a tragic hero just like Lelouch, but this is not the time to talk about that). By the way, the watch is an important symbol for Suzaku. I'll talk about that in due course.
One thing that will always bug me about this series is that they never again address the girl who marks the wall everyday. Throughout the rest of the series during all the major events and big moments my brain just naturally goes "Wait, but what about the wall-marking girl!?!"
According to the supplementary material they bring up that this girl "Carve-tan" is now living in Britannia and keeps getting up in the middle of the night (due to time zones) and tries to escape from her home and try to return to the wall at Ashford, which resulted in a nervous breakdown. She had to be confined to prevent her from escaping, but apparently she's doing better now.
You may not have recognized the Japanese people Suzaku intervened with. They are Tamaki and several members of Kallen's terrorist group. Tamaki has his role in the series. Oh, and Arthur will be appearing quite a bit. Wonder if he will ever like Suzaku...
@@scarlightemperor3410 I always immediately think of The Major from Ghost in the Shell when I hear her in any dub. Which would be a great show for them to react to on the channel, its even more political intrigue and stuff than Code Geass!
The whole argument of which matters, the outcome or intention is the key difference between Lelouch and Susaku and a major theme of the show. The show does ultimately pick a side as well which is nice.
CC is nothing like Misa. Since you guys watched Death Note, it’s pretty obvious that CC is a lot like Ryuk. However there’s differences between the two
Here comes another contribution from me to help the algorithm: 0:30 Montana is right. CC calls herself "Immortal Witch" 1:37 In the prologue to the first chapter the voice explain that the Japanese lost the war against Britannia precisely because their military weapons couldn't against the Knightmare. The same story is repeated with this Arab nation. 2:42 Cornelia can be seen as an evil Olivia Arstromg. She is established as an antagonist and villain. 2:55 It was fun Montana simp moment. 4:31 I didn't want to talk about origami right now, but since you mark it as a foreshadowing I'll give you a hint: origami and Geass have exactly the same shape, why? Because it is a symbol within the series, can you tell what it is? I'll give you another hint: technically, they tell you in episode 3. 4:19 We've all imitated Lelouch's iconic poses at some point, Montana, it'll be a matter of time before you and Kenny do too 6:59 Oh, I didn't expect Tohdoh to have his own counter! 7:29 This counter is late. Lelouch has already expressed several of his convictions for this point in the story: "the world doesn't change if you don't get your hands dirty", "only those who are willing to die should have the power to kill", "if a king doesn't moves, his subjects will not follow him." 9:56 An important detail. The Geass leaves a trail, after all. She is Villetta Nu, a member of the purist faction. 11:09 Suzaku likes all animals, but Arthur is hostile to Suzaku. It's a joke within the narrative, but it makes sense. The cat is named after King Arthur from English knightly mythology and Suzaku is the pilot of the Lancelot, one of the knights who served King Arthur. His beloved was Queen Guinevere, Arthur's wife, so it's normal for Arthur and Lancelot to have a tense relationship. 11:45 Very good, Montana. 13:49 You already know that Lelouch can't use his Geass twice on the same person, so he will have given the order to that girl to mark the wall once a day. You know what the intention was. 14:28 You got it right. CC cannot be under the control of the Geass. On the other point, that is, that she won't do anything to put them in danger or expose them... Well... Don't believe her. It is all I can say. 15:02 I guess she reminds you of Misa because she suddenly shows up in the protagonist's life as an ally, but she gets in the way more than she helps. Actually, CC is more like Ryuk. Me and other subscribers explain why. 16:03 Suzaku does not dump Tamaki because he disagrees with what he says and believes in the system, but because Tamaki was going to attack him and Suzaku defended himself. 16:57 I assume you mean Suzaku. Overall, Suzaku believes that he can do more damage control and make a difference within the system than fighting him because in the long run it brings more problems. It's a "safe" alternative that sticks to the rules and Suzaku follows the rules. The thing is, those rules are usually not correct or moral. It is a complicated position. 25:21 That was an excellent question and you answered correctly. I could only add to the data that Kenny rescued from the second episode that Lelouch caused that woman and her baby to fall. This is because he was shooting at the Lancelot that was chasing him, but, as he saw that Lancelot was dodging everything, he started shooting at the infrastructures to create obstacles that would delay Lancelot and give him time to run away. This tells you that Lelouch doesn't care too much that his actions compromise the lives that are at stake or, rather, that he doesn't assess the damage that his actions cause. If I remember correctly, you used the "Lelouch is detached from his actions" counter and it's a correct way to call it. Let's see how things develop from this point. 27:52 That's a pertinent question and an interesting answer. 30:42 That's a very altruistic reading on CC and so it's totally wrong. CC is the most egotistical character on the show and her wish is more personal. I'll forgive you because this is a first impression and you're trying to guess. And of course Kenny had to "bother" Montana with Cornelia xD I liked all the new counters. Very appropriate. Thanks for this reaction!
I really appreciate your comment. It really gives a wise interpretation and pointed a lot of hints to understand conclusion of this great show. I also appreciate that because I know you had to put some effort to write that and I think it may be worth for somebody to see how brilliant is this anime.
So in japanese CC is spelled シー• ツー or Shi Tsu Shi is how you spell the letter C in japanese and Tsu is how you would spell 2 because they don't have a proper T-u sound. The reason it's pronounced C2 is because her initials are CC and therefore is C 2 times, which is why they say she goes by her initials.
Everyone thinks this is going to be Montana's simp counter, but from what we remember from the FMA reaction this might be Kenny simping for a strong woman to beat him up 😂
Very much always loved that Lelouch says "When someone wins, the fighting will end" as he uses a white knight to knock over a black king. Very fitting for how the show progresses from here.
Montana has great intuition. She is wildly off on specifics, but her wild speculation is very close to home, for anyone else who knows the answers to the questions she is asking.
Slightly different take on the "divide them with suspicion" line. I think he's getting at the idea that a group that is unified around all thinking in lockstep, it would be easier to cause suspicion that someone is doing something against the group. A faction that is already ok with having a lot of different views among its members isn't going to start turning on themselves at the slightest deviation from the norm.
Right. It's easier to turn a group of people who all follow the same code against each other than a diverse group, because the common code group all has the same definition of "unforgivable".
Fun fact, the creator did state that out of all the female characters in this series, Cornelia does have the biggest chest with Millie coming in second. How RUclips algorithms showed me videos on that information is something I'll never understand.
Her initials of C.C. Got translated to C2. Try not to worry about it. They translated the pronunciation used in the show rather than the script. Saying “C C” out loud is pretty awkward anyway
I think it is to make her inhuman. In English, CC wouldn't sound weird as everyone knows someone called JJ or CJ or something like that. C2 makes her feel very different and inhuman.
@@saltyk9869 maybe. Less artistic possibility, Japanese speakers presented with double initials just prefer to say the initial with the number of repetitions. Gets me every time Hubby calls the A3 batteries instead of AAA, or “A3 people” when we need AAA to get us a tow truck
I hadn't thought too deeply about the intention mattering before but you're right, it's a much different thing to say you want to destroy vs you want to save. It'll be interesting if there's ever a point where Lelouch has the opportunity to deal massive damage to Britannia at the cost of saving Japan. Could make a choice that doesn't mesh well with the Japanese.

My favorite thing is the power system, it just really cool, creative and logical. - Monster (2004): I wasn't smart enough to watch this, but it was really interesting. - Assassination Classroom: It's really fun, but it's also very emotional and meaningful. - The Promised Neverland: Not sure about this, because the first season is a must watch but the second,...well, it was fine. Still hope it will have a remake. - Gravity Fall: JUST WATCH THIS. I really like your reaction. Love yall. Well my English not really good btw😅

C2 is C.C. This is a small change in the dub, but not really. In Japanese she was called "CC" to make her seem inhuman. However, how many people do you know that go by CJ or TJ? CC wouldn't sound crazy. So in order to keep that inhuman feel, they call her "C2". In universe she is CC, though.
It's pronounced C2 in the Japanese dub and on here but it's spelled C.C. and here, the Filipino dub pronounced it as C.C. the way it's spelled so either way is good.
Who is Euphys brother? I don't know maybe the 3 prince clovis or Lelouche who everyone thinks is dead? It is Not Hard to understand simple thinks when you use your brain.
C2, C.C., She-Chu, or whatever else you wanna call her, she's best girl, and one of the best anime waifus of all time. I WILL fight people on both those points if I have to😂
It's worth mentioning that in the Japanese version, Cornelia doesn't specify that they're sisters, but that they're FULL sisters. Unlike, say, Lelouch and Clovis, who were only half-siblings. Because naturally, all the princes and princesses of the Empire would be siblings, given that our man Charles has like 100 wives, but only some of them would be full siblings.
We haven’t really gotten to see more of her yet but she’s not really a racist but someone who believes peoples worth are determined solely by their own merits and achievements. An elitist perhaps, but she isn’t above complementing even her enemies if she seems then worthy. We get a glimpse of that when her attendant said they were going to have a ball and dinner to celebrate her arrival when they should have had other priorities.
@@edwardirwin3478 Oh I love this series have watched it many, many time's I was just trying to be vague as to avoid spoilers for other people. ============================== Soo Spoilers are below. ============================== We are never shown her passing racist policies, actively discriminating against a particular group or individuals she's ruthless in battle and isn't above throwing out insults if her opponents do something cowardly or fail to impress her but again its more of an elitist attitude. If you can't measure up you are worthless to her. The only actions she actually takes that might be called racist is her refusal to promote Suzaku to a higher rank, but he was more or less dating her sister, which I'm pretty sure she would hate regardless who it was. Euphy is also a part of the royal family so he lacks standing from a political standpoint. Not only that Suzaku was saved by zero, went crazy in Narita and hesitated to follow orders when fighting the Japanese liberation front. So she has good reason not to elevate him to a higher rank.
@@SwordTune Aye it's their national policy, but we are never show it as being her own personal one as I go into detail above. Cornelia doesn't even push back all that hard against Euphimia on the issue, which is actually pretty surprising as she is effectively promoting a foreigner to a position typically held by Britannian nobles, even worse its from a country they recently conquered and fighting an ongoing rebellion against. Its a bad move from an optics perspective as well as one logically speaking. But all she does is shrug and say "hey its your right as royalty its out of my hands."
It's okay, Montana, you're not alone. I, too, am a shameless Cornelia simp. If evil, why hot? My favorite character, however, is also another one we get introduced to here! C.C. is definitely my fave, right alongside Lelouch.

Jeremiah cancels out geass that every had remember? So probably that time he put anti geass on her too
I love seeing / hearing so much discussion about Lelouch's personality
You may not have recognized the Japanese people Suzaku intervened with. They are Tamaki and several members of Kallen's terrorist group. Tamaki has his role in the series.
Oh, and Arthur will be appearing quite a bit. Wonder if he will ever like Suzaku...
They gifted that man the bolted down swivel chair and as a testament to its power it's now in another room.
To be fair, simping for a character voiced by Mary Elizabeth McGlynn is completely understandable.
Can't resist Major Kusanagi's many VAs no matter the language ^^
Oh crap I completely forgot about that! No wonder I fell for her on first sight
@@scarlightemperor3410 I always immediately think of The Major from Ghost in the Shell when I hear her in any dub. Which would be a great show for them to react to on the channel, its even more political intrigue and stuff than Code Geass!
Love her Motoko Kusanagi and Naoto Shirogane from the Persona 4 anime
The whole argument of which matters, the outcome or intention is the key difference between Lelouch and Susaku and a major theme of the show. The show does ultimately pick a side as well which is nice.
CC is nothing like Misa. Since you guys watched Death Note, it’s pretty obvious that CC is a lot like Ryuk. However there’s differences between the two
It was "too late to change his mind" the moment Lelouch pulled the trigger against his brother
Here comes another contribution from me to help the algorithm:
0:30 Montana is right. CC calls herself "Immortal Witch"
1:37 In the prologue to the first chapter the voice explain that the Japanese lost the war against Britannia precisely because their military weapons couldn't against the Knightmare.
4:19 We've all imitated Lelouch's iconic poses at some point, Montana, it'll be a matter of time before you and Kenny do too
6:59 Oh, I didn't expect Tohdoh to have his own counter!
7:29 This counter is late. Lelouch has already expressed several of his convictions for this point in the story: "the world doesn't change if you don't get your hands dirty", "only those who are willing to die should have the power to kill", "if a king doesn't moves, his subjects will not follow him."
9:56 An important detail.
God I can not wait until they get to episode 22
That's gonna be great
Euphemia is wonderful, as well! It's interesting to see the ways she and Lelouch parallel and contrast each other.
She's the best.
So in japanese CC is spelled シー• ツー or Shi Tsu
Shi is how you spell the letter C in japanese and Tsu is how you would spell 2 because they don't have a proper T-u sound.
The reason it's pronounced C2 is because her initials are CC and therefore is C 2 times, which is why they say she goes by her initials.
Everyone thinks this is going to be Montana's simp counter, but from what we remember from the FMA reaction this might be Kenny simping for a strong woman to beat him up 😂
It's both, and they both like that. I remember Levi and the trial episode
So much amazing story to look forward to, it hurts to have to wait a week for each episode, but it's also great ^^
Very much always loved that Lelouch says "When someone wins, the fighting will end" as he uses a white knight to knock over a black king. Very fitting for how the show progresses from here.
7:40 Aww... This version removed the Pizza Hut logos
I damn near fell over laughing when I found out the Japanese version was sponsored by pizza hut back when it aired 😂
@@darknesswave100 It was amazing! LoL
NOOO this is the worst timeline 😂
Montana has great intuition. She is wildly off on specifics, but her wild speculation is very close to home, for anyone else who knows the answers to the questions she is asking.
17:27 Ahhh we all love her man.... we all love her.
...So is anyone else getting a sinking feeling in their chest after hearing him say that?
Slightly different take on the "divide them with suspicion" line. I think he's getting at the idea that a group that is unified around all thinking in lockstep, it would be easier to cause suspicion that someone is doing something against the group. A faction that is already ok with having a lot of different views among its members isn't going to start turning on themselves at the slightest deviation from the norm.
Right. It's easier to turn a group of people who all follow the same code against each other than a diverse group, because the common code group all has the same definition of "unforgivable".
I’m gonna miss the Pizza Hut logos that was taken out on this version.
22:43 ...her brother is Clovis all the princes and princesses are full or half siblings.
what a good choice of thumbnail
Fun fact, the creator did state that out of all the female characters in this series, Cornelia does have the biggest chest with Millie coming in second.
How RUclips algorithms showed me videos on that information is something I'll never understand.
Yeah. Suzaku’s knighhtmare is the next generation and far beyond the other ones here
Her initials of C.C.
Some very fascinating thoughts at the end of the episode! The patreon questions are always so brilliant.
Fridge Horror: What if the girl is carving marks in the walls, even up to her death? Honeymoon? No time, I need to go to my old high school and draw a symbol. Job overseas? Sorry, I can't do it.
I heard she went insane eventually. To be fair, Lelouch expected it to wear off eventually.
One thing I found is that Kenny really likes assuming all brianians are evil and therefore killing them is right
Love this episode it was so good can't wait for more. Glad you guys are enjoying code geass.
Loving the constant Death Note references. That and Code Geass are two of my favourite all time animes, there's unfortunately no anime like these.
I've had some suggestions for anime and cartoon, which you can see.
- Hunter x Hunter (2011): I've just finished it this month, but no kidding, it's probably my favorite anime ever. The story, the characters really good and enjoyable.
All very good ones!
I would really like to know what Euphie's plan was had she just not been caught after falling two stories. Also yeah, Cornelia is the waifu.
CC is the waifu
Cc is waifu
Well, regarding Euphie's two-story jump, to quote Code MENT : "Well, there goes *THAT* suicide attempt..."
Kallen is the Waifu
There's enough waifu material to go around in this show. Mine would be Cornelia honestly. Not cause of the whole step on me nonsense but because she's a strong woman who also happens to be gorgeous
So this is about married couples fighting over Cornelia 😋
C.C. my beloved! The way she just "Anyway, I live here now." and Lelouch is "...Okay. This is happening I guess."
Euphy wasn't really planning on jumping the way she did - the cloth she was using rope turned out too short.
Cornelia is voiced by the same English va who voiced the major (motoko kusanagi) in ghost in the shell stand: alone complex.
More code geass, lets go!
Title of ep5 Princess = Euphy & Witch = C.C
I love that while you're gonna be simping Cornelia, i'm gonna be simping Euphemia 🤓💖
Cornellia might have conquered Area 18 But its sounds like you two want to conquer her area 18+
Simp counter starting from this episode 😂
Its a quirk of translation... in origin she called CC, not C two
Montana gets a genius counter at the end of the video. Shes not quite on the money but she's so close.
Yeah it’s C2 in the English version but CC in the Japanese
Please make code Geass 2x a week huhu
C.C = C times 2 = C2
"I'll stop this violence the only way I know how; With more violence"
C.c actually reminds me of Ryuk, if you know what I mean.
Introducing the MVP of the series. Arthur the Cat.
C.C. is cool too. She’s like if Misa and Ryuk were the same character, in a way. Acts completely differently, though.
Listen. Im not asking a lot. Just two episodes of Code Geass on RUclips per week.
Its amazing how people can hear a name in english dub and still pronounce it wrong
Kenny can you make a youtube post asking for movie recommendations so we can comment some great movies for you to watch. You guys are going to react to animated movies too right not just series only
C2 is C.C. This is a small change in the dub, but not really. In Japanese she was called "CC" to make her seem inhuman. However, how many people do you know that go by CJ or TJ? CC wouldn't sound crazy. So in order to keep that inhuman feel, they call her "C2". In universe she is CC, though.
17:34 GeASS counter
It's pronounced C2 in the Japanese dub and on here but it's spelled C.C. and here, the Filipino dub pronounced it as C.C. the way it's spelled so either way is good.
CC is veeeeery different than Misa!
Who is Euphys brother?
I don't know maybe the 3 prince clovis or Lelouche who everyone thinks is dead?
It is Not Hard to understand simple thinks when you use your brain.
Discord is here but we are just silent majority now
I’m looking to begin a mecha anime but my choices so far is Code geass or 86, which ones better to watch in your opinion?
First the classic pls... gundam wing
Gundam wing, then code geass, then 86
The desire to spoil the ending is so strong XD
22:16
Omg Cornelia!!! But uhhmm annoying girl #2 will be in this episode hoho
5:16 I might be wrong but I think this kind of hand gestures are actually done because of Jojo
Cornelia Olivier Armstrong have the same Badassery, they are cold and has a Hotness at the same time 🥶🥵
C2, C.C., She-Chu, or whatever else you wanna call her, she's best girl, and one of the best anime waifus of all time.
I WILL fight people on both those points if I have to😂
The very best!
CC=Two C/C2
Personally I find the similarities with deathnote and C2 are much closer to Ryuk than Misa
Montana is so real… simping for Cornelia just like me fr
Cornelia isn’t evil, she's just a racist imperialist conquerer... okay I see your point. Counterpoint: she's hot as f
@@BigHeadClan She's certainly racist, don't know if you've seen the rest of the show but it should be obvious.
@@BigHeadClan You forget the part where discrimination is their national policy.
@@edwardirwin3478 Oh I love this series have watched it many, many time's I was just trying to be vague as to avoid spoilers for other people.
==============================
Soo Spoilers are below.
==============================
We are never shown her passing racist policies, actively discriminating against a particular group or individuals she's ruthless in battle and isn't above throwing out insults if her opponents do something cowardly or fail to impress her but again its more of an elitist attitude.
I love this episode so much. Witch and princess... My best girls are heeere!
nice vid!
It's okay, Montana, you're not alone. I, too, am a shameless Cornelia simp. If evil, why hot? My favorite character, however, is also another one we get introduced to here! C.C. is definitely my fave, right alongside Lelouch.
Agreed!
LETZGOOOOOO
Let the shipping begin!
Let go 😎
#Spoilers for MHA
Now that I finally got her type , im sure montana is going to have a field day with mirko
13:35 you two missed an interesting line because you were reacting to something else. There's nothing wrong with that but I thought I might point it out :)
Cats don't like you because they can smell the asinine dumbness on you, Suzaku. They have strong survival instincts and don't want to be around someone who is suicidaly stupid.
Spoilers
Oh no Euphemia nice counter
:((
ye
Funnily enough Cornelia, despite her introduction being her mercilessly wiping out the army of and subjugating another territory for the tyrannical empire... She's one of the good ones, imo.
No she is not and the things you said is clear reason
@@Max-xl5kx it's hard to blame her considering the family she was born into. Lelouch would've ended up just like her probably if his mother wasn't killed when he was a boy.
