  • If you want to see what it's like at an Australia ADV Motorcycle Rally then join me as I finally get to the Walcha Motorcycle Rally, based out of the motorcycling mecca which is the small country town of Walcha.
Walcha is at the hub of some of Australia's best motorcycle riding, both road touring and ADV, being at the crossroads of Thunderbolt Way and the Oxley Highway, two of Australia's best rides.
I've been wanting to go to for years, and it was a memorable experience, with organised adventure rides over two days.
The Triumph Tiger 900 was a joy to ride, especially after a week in Morocco on the much smaller and slower Royal Enfield Himalayan.

@@australianadv yeah that feeling is great but also a bit scarry, we all have those moments, I was pin down under a 800 gs and barely got out, since then dowgrade to a 300L and loving it for the solo runs

Great video. Being able to ride at your own pace is good but hanging with a group is fun too. Safety in numbers. Going try to get to Walcha rally this year. Cheers.

Cheers mate. Yeah it’s worth attending, the rides are well organised and it would be hard to find all those trails without the local knowledge

Thanks mate ... were you in "Off Road Pro" mode for most of the off road stuff?

Hi mate, I was in regular Off Road, not Off Road Pro.
For gravel I usually prefer the regular Off Road because you still have a bit of traction control. It's not too intrusive like if you were still in Road mode, and it still lets you spin the back wheel a bit and have a bit of a play.
Off Road Pro has TC completely off, which is great when you want guaranteed control or you're planning to keep the back wheel spinning (eg on sand).

Thanks mate ... were you in "Off Road Pro" mode when off the bitumen? Also, the 900 looks like one of the heavier bikes in the rally and as RP 900 newbee was the off road stuff easy to handle?

It's a big bike, but it's pretty agile and easy to handle. I keep the seat in the low position when riding offroad to make it easier to put a foot down if needed, but the main thing is to keep moving so you never feel the weight of the bike.
I've ridden an Africa Twin and the Tiger 900 feels lighter.

@@australianadv I had a ride on a Tiger Rally pro , was very impressed with the suspension on road, they're a nice bike.

I believe private roads can be used by the public as a thoroughfare due to it being a 'necessary' easement. However, if in doubt just check with the local council.

Thanks. That’s a good idea to check with the local council. I have a copy of the route so I could phone ahead and ask about specific roads when planning another visit.
