    What I would really like to see? A comparison of the 820 itself with DV on and off. Because I think the difference is marginal at best. Especially with the 820s HDR optimizer and dynamic tone mapping. With that being said, thank you for this awesome PS5 vs UB820 comparison! :)

    Have been watching Game of thrones 4K blu-rays for the past weeks on PS5 and the picture is really good...it's not dolby vision but still looks awesome with HDR10. Thank God they've included a 4K capable player with the PS5 cause for 500 $ it's a bargain!

    First off, in order to really see the difference of the 820 you need Dolby vision enabled. It’s not even close as someone who owns both. Night and day. Also it depends on the quality of your tv too if you really want to experience the quality of the 820.

      Agreed with the DV part. i tested in HDR10 for an apples to apples comparison though, as the PS5 is not DV compatible. The point was, can the PS5 double as a game console AND adequate 4K/HDR10 player, and I think we've seen here, it can. For most, its totally acceptable and not necessary to go out and get a high end dedicated player.

      DV is superior. However unless you have a tv that supports DV then it’s completely pointless. If you have a HDR only tv and a PS5 there is nothing to justify paying out for a dedicated player with all the bells and whistles if your display cannot take advantage of it.
      PS5 does the job just fine for 99% of those who watch Blu-ray.

    Your comparison between the PlayStation 5 and the Panasonic UB 820 is good. But the one thing that UB 820 has over the PlayStation 5 is that it could play 3D movies. I still have my 3D TV and I have about over 40 3D movies and Sony's not going to activate or put in the firmware for the 3D on the PS5.

      True! However a dedicated BD player particularly something like the UB820 must have many more as well as more comprehensive options or settings for video playback and quality. I would like to know you went through all of them to make sure they're all optimized for best result on your TV which could make a real noticeable difference in the comparison. Though I do believe some basic settings should be left on default/standard and better have their counterparts on TV changed or adjusted unless they're not available there.
      Also honestly It's unfortunate that PS5 still does not support 3D BD playback which can be the only reason why some 3D movie lovers like me may actually end up buying a dedicated blu-ray player (possibly something much cheaper than the UB820) just for that feature!

      This is not true. They play blu ray and DVD movies just fine. The video playback in these is necessary to show CGI FMV cutscenes and trailers and all that stuff. Why wouldnt it be sufficient at playing a disc movie. That doesnt make any sense at all.

      @@FURognarAre you listening yourself? It's pointless just by a decade, blu. Ray player, it's better. It's easier to handle. I'm not buying millions of dollars of a ps5 just to play my PlayStation for movies. Sorry It's stupid obviously

    • @FURognar
      @FURognar 26 дней назад

      @@Lildevile-1gv7ej2j its hardly pointless. Its a money saving endeavor. I have a $500 game console. If it was discless, I would also have to buy a $300 to $500 4k blu ray player.
      If my game console also has a disc drive and can play those movies, I save money and space in my component shelf.
      Now I AM planning to get a dedicated player......mostly to save wear and tear on my PS5 as I watch a LOT of movies. But many people cant afford both....and why should they have to if putting a disc drive in the game console is standard practice.
      It makes perfect sense. Maybe not on PC anymore. But consoles are a different beast entirely.

    Some reddit post the other day i read was saying by multiple ppl the 820 was like leaps n bounds better than the ps5.Sure it is in some niche points, but yeah, ill stick with my ps5. 4k movies look great! and as far as the color "difference" (suuuper subtle in this vid) thats something you can mess around with in the tv settings. If you dont care about dolby vision/atmos (which not every show/movie even supports) then go with the ps5. If youre not a gamer and stricly wanna watch 4k movies at the "best" quality, go with the 820.
