Loukoumades with honey is the most popular version. But the real pros put ''petimezi'' on their loukoumades. Petimezi is a syrup made from wine must. Its very sweet and has a wine-ish aftertaste. Its not easy to access good petimezi, thats why ''commercial'' version of loukoumades is always with honey. If you ever try it, you will never go back.
It's pronounced 'FEE-low' dough. not Fie(rhymes with pie) low. And it Spah-no-KOE-peeta, not cop, as in in cops and robbers. Also the Loukoumathes you ate near the end of the video is the traditional appearance. Loukoumathes usually have no hole in them. Go to any Greek festival in the U.S. and they'll be made without a hole.
