In each note there is a reflection of varied emotions, from joy to sadness. Vivaldi describes with music the emotions of the human soul. I knew Bach's cello sonatas, but these by Vivaldi surprised me by being unknown as much as I loved them.
Master cellist Jaap ter Linden always brings to whatever material he works with his own approach. And results are always unexpected and thrilling. This recording ( personal favorite ) is probably the freshest and incredibly thoughtful rendition of Vivaldi"s oevre for the inctrument. No false bravura and showoffy virtuosity here. Just a thoughtful following the composer's thought and wisely afforded space to breathe for every phraze and decoration. It is not the frenetic banal Vivaldi we came to traditionally know. This is a thinker and master builder of a sonic architecture that maestro ter Linden have revealed. Of course, the tense, highly responsive and expressive dialogue of cello and harpsichord in masterful hands of Eric Moirtensen fully shapes the composer's musical vision even in that chamber setting. Exemplary interpretation. Bravi!
This cello "sings" as a violin. I have allways thought of Vivaldi connecting mostly with violin compositions. Marvellous music. Thank you for uploading. It will be one of my favorite compositions
Personally I prefer the six Porpora cello sonatas (attributed in collaboration with Costanzi, which is not correct) ... Vivaldi repeats too much himself... Porpora is a master of emotions, deep and cool

Here are incredibly deep and emotional sonatas that are mainly missing from the modern repertoire. Wow.
I think these sonatas are the masterworks of Vivaldi.

When I opened this video, the recommendation for other videos stopped. That's how much Vivaldi's Cello sonatas are interesting.
