How are they still living here? What went wrong? Is attitude important? Mindset? High or Low expectations? What about their son, how did he handle the difficulties? I have known many people who have moved to Costa Rica and left for much less. So what's the secret to making it in Costa Rica? I think I will watch the other video on their son. I have lived in Costa Rica a total of 7 years since the 90s. I have also worked in the Boston area as a Spanish medical interpreter for 19 years and I never put together how therapeutic the Costa Rican lifestyle, especially in the countryside, could be for autistic children and families. The slow pace, the way people actually stop and talk with each other, the inclusive attitude, all great stuff. At least that is how things are in my little campesino town. 😊

      One thing I will say even after almost twenty years of living here you'll never stop being a gringo and there is people that will take advantage and Gringo price you and think that you just have all the money in the world , and if you're living on a budget you still probably have more money than most Costa Rican

    Good morning Love 🌅
    I'm sorry that they had to go through all that. It really could happen anywhere, I imagine that it's a bit scarier in a foreign country..I've seen alot of those ads on Costa Rica FB pages - which often seen shady to me
    I've had a very hard life and I've learned three things:
    * I don't put my business on the street
    * I don't trust anybody but myself and those closest to me
    * I make plans, but realize that life can be full of obstacles and delays, so I stay flexible

    I was thinking about this video and how many people also express coming down from their stressed out lives...As a jazz singing, bellydancing, massage therapist, I never lived on the hamster wheel so it's hard for me to relate, but I remembered the height of my massage career - in 10 years I did 10,000 + massage. I worked on Stanford Athletes, Stanford Oncology patients, and MANY, MANY, stressed out Silicone Valley people. I remember their bodies, and even if they were in good shape, the level of discomfort and emotional pain held in their bodies I will never forget. Money comes and goes....but your body is where you live....take good care of it. Bravo to those who are brave enough like this couple to make the change. I agree with Rhonda, Travel Costa Rica Now is the best resource on the internet for gathering information on all aspects of moving to Costa Rica. I also highly recommend the upcoming Relocation Retreat (which I attended in March). 🌺

    Wow, what an amazing story! I am truly inspired by this couple's determination and positivity. It takes a lot of courage to relocate to a foreign country and face the challenges that come along with it, but they persevered and came out on top. I love how open-hearted and sincere they are, and it's amazing to hear that they have found happiness and a sense of home in Costa Rica, and how they immersed in it. "We immersed ourselves with locals," Sandy said. YES. In my opinion, that is the only way to truly experience Costa Rica. I could write a five page essay about the topics in this video, or post an hour long rant on RUclips. Why? Because it's all so TRUE. And it doesn't matter how hard you try to explain this to the starry-eyed wannabe expats hoping to come here and live in paradise, nobody gets it until they've been thoroughly "got" themselves. Michel and I saw all of this while we were in the process of settling here. Did we avoid disaster ourselves? Yes we did... but there are reasons for that. I made many, many folks very angry with me because of the way I turn around and walk out if I smell a rat. I'm usually not even polite enough to say "thank you for your time." But it's more than that. I think mainly we didn't lose big money because we didn't flash any big money to lose. We were coming here to live simply. More than one lawyer and many "realtors" didn't even want to bother with us because we weren't willing to spend large amounts on whatever they were selling. Most of them made the mistake of assuming that because we didn't want to spend money, we didn't have money to spend. Fools. But we were like, forget the containers, forget importing our previous lives. We sold everything and came here to live on a 14-meter bus until we found the perfect property. We are still living on that bus, even though it is now parked on our perfect property. We did lose a few thousand on the bus conversion because of the phenomenon described in this video; "we're your new family and we will take care of you and just trust us..." We trusted those wankers until we saw that they weren't listening to a darn thing we said about how we wanted the conversion done, (I actually heard one of them say "just build it and she'll like it." WRONG. Like Fred said to the guy who took his moto: "do I have to knock some sense into that skull of yours?") so we took our bus and went on down the road. But I'm talking a few thousand, not tens or hundreds of thousands, and in the end we still have our bus and comparitively speaking (to the cost of bus conversions in North America,) we more or less got what we paid for and all is well. By contrast, we listened to you, Mike, about the bus mechanic in Chachagua and guess what? He is an amazing person, does great work, and I am still close friends with his wife. So I watch videos like this one and want to bang my head against a wall, because I know so many people are going to do just what you said, "oh, this will never happen to me," and end up coming here only to leave disgusted and disillusioned. But Sandy got it right at the 24:00 mark when she talked about mindset. She's right. Like her, if I were a person who had to have air conditioning and required hot water to wash my clothes and had no patience for things getting sideways, I would not have lasted. To enjoy life here in Costa Rica, you have to accept the imperfection of this lifestyle and be okay with bugs in your bedsheets. "Pura vida" doesn't mean everything is perfect. It simply means the imperfections don't have any power to steal your peace of mind.

      Hi Rhonda, we plan on coming down from the states in a 30 - 40 ft motor home to park it on a property near Tinamaste. People keep telling us not to do it due to the bad roads, sharp corners and overhead clearance. What do you think?

    • @rhondak_ManorMiravalles
      @rhondak_ManorMiravalles 11 месяцев назад

      @@wolf4076 I would not personally attempt it, but I have a friend with a pregnant partner who is currently doing this exact thing, although the converted bus is smaller. They're doing fine, stopped in Mexico for a while to have the baby. We've taken our bus off the road now and are converting it to a tiny guesthouse. Things to consider: Google Maps is utterly useless in most of Central America. It sent us down a motocross trail once in the bus. Not kidding at all. Also, locals will lie to you because they either don't understand the technical issues of driving a vehicle of this size, or they want to see you get screwed up because they think it's funny. I can almost guarantee your RV will have body damage by the time you park it in Tinamaste.

    These are my connection to the land that saw me grow. I laugh so much at all these things and quirks that I wouldn’t be able to deal with as an adult. Yet these Americans living there after knowing the USA for decades like living there despite the stories.
    It brings the down to earth perspective of you can’t take everything so serious. That’s something I hated about CR but maybe I need to change to that mentality because America causes everyone anxiety.

    Hey Mike , one time , in The C,R, Airport, i ask the immigration men, if i can stay more , because I LOVE Costa Rica, the more you stay the more money i spend, and he look at me for 60, second, and he put on my passport 120,days , and i told him thank you sir, they know that you are coming to spend , if they ask you why are here for , you say because i love C,R, and I'm thinking moving here because Costa Rica is BEAUTIFUL, that's one way of wining then over in the Airport,
