- EasyJet Trip Report onboard one of their Airbus A320 from Vienna to Berlin Tegel airport.
This is my last Trip Report flying to Berlin-Tegel airport. The airport will be closing at the end of this month (October 2020) and will be replaced by Berlin-Brandenburg airport.
It's sad to see such a classic airport closing and, with it, one of the most amazing approaches that we have in Europe. As you can see on this Trip Report, during all final approach the sightseen of Berlin is just amazing...
I know that a lot of people that don't usually follow the channel will say "this is not the last flight to Berlin Tegel! You are lying...". For all of those that will say that, the title refers to the channel, this is the last flight to Berlin-Tegel of OnBoardHD. Enjoy!

Well, the only thing you missed are those approach views, that are really amazing. Other than that... a very normal airport that needed a big update or to be closed. 😐

Nice video! Actually, Tegel closes on November 8th 2020 while the new Brandenburg opens at the end of the month but there is a transitioning period between then an November :)

Sad that I did not fly to Tegel last year with Easyjet, switching my trip to Basel. No I will not be able to land on that iconic airport!!
It's sad to see airports closing... but in this case... it was completely normal. The airport was old and extremely outdated. Berlin deserved something better =/

Es muy hermosa las vistas , justo en el despegue en Viena : campos muy trabajados , en perfecta alineación y mucho verdoso.
Es muy cierto, la llegada a Berlín hermosa y boscosa. Se ven muy pocas ciudades con pequeños grupos de árboles formando un bosque. Gracias por ofrecernos tan maravillosas vistas...ha , por cierto; los virajes de producen cierto vértigo! Saludos.

I have flown a few times to Tegel, that's why I appreciate the airport, great memories in Berlin. Other than that, Tegel is a really old and inconvenient airport. Berlin deserves a much better one.

El aeropueto de Tegel es un aeropuerto muy desfasado, claramente de otra época. No lo han actualizado desde hace años porque ya se estaba construyendo el nuevo Berlín-Brandenburgo.
Tegel no tiene capacidad para crecer y, al estar pegado a la ciudad, tiene muchas restricciones de ruído que afectan a su operativa.

I will miss Tegel Airport. I used to travel annually to Berlin and Air Malta was serving Tegel, while Ryanair served Schönefeld (I'm talking about flights to/from Malta). Tegel was small, but efficient
Berlin Brandenburg is in the same place as Schonefeld. Actually, Schonefeld airport also "disappears" as airport, and will become Berlin-Brandenburg Terminal 5.

For now, I have almost all flights planned until February 2021 (the current pandemic forced me to have everything planned ahead, just in case we could face another massive lockdown...). Stuttgart probably will appear once. Croatia won't until 2021.

I will also miss Tegal, have family in Berlin and visit often, taxi takes me right to A10 KLM, with its own security, your air-side in 10 minutes. Brandenburg is 10 years late and way to small,
it wont cope with the normal Tegal and Schonefeld traffic, only thing going for it now are much reduced passenger numbers. I`m considering flying to AMS, then go by train to Berlin
Hauptbahnhof, 6 hour trip to avoid BER. I know that you have magical powers Lucas, so I`m confident you have some flights booked from Brandenburg very soon haha! I would really
value your knowledge and experience when using it. Love the southern approach to 26R, so much to see, almost makes me cry and I`m not even German, Schlafen gut Tegal :(
Oh, I can understand you. It's very nice when you have an airport so close...
However, I think we can both agree that the airport was far behind the European standard in capitals... It needed a huge update or directly a new one. Its location didn't allow for a big expansion, and being so close to the city centre made a lot of restrictions for arrivals and departures in terms of noise restrictions. So, I think it's sad... but it was a necessary action.
For now I don't have anything to Brandenburg, but for sure we'll have! :D
@@OnBoardHD I really hope Brandenburg works for Berlin, Iv`e used Schonefeld many times too, Ryanair to Podgorica and Edinburgh, Wizz to Kiev and Varna, all in the last
2 years. I wont cry when Schonefeld closes, it was already pretty bad, lets hope all the rehearsals and perpetration pay off for BER.

En primer.er lugar muchas gracias por avisar de que cierran tel, ya que voy a Berlin muy a menudo, lo segundo es que es triste que cierren ese aeropuerto, pero yo lo considero de los más horribles de toda Europa, no puede ser que una gran capital tenga un arropuerto tan feo y desastroso, en fin, espero que el nuevo este mejor. I love the views of European countries, hardly to see very high mountains; here in South América there are many, mostly of the times fly over them, and in my country (Ecuador) i live in Quito (2840 meters altitud) have amazing views as well (valleys, mountains and volcanos, rivers, amazonian jungle; take a look on some videos (Mariscal Sucre new airport landings and take off) will like a lot.
I've watched many videos of the old Quito airport hehe It was great!
I hope to be able to make many trips to America in general next year! The plan was to do it this year, but the COVID-19 destroyed my plans... =/

Did they rename the runways in Vienna, recently? I'm pretty sure the runways are 11-29 and 16-34... There should be no runway 27 🤔

Super buen trip Lucas, me he dado cuenta que te gusta mucho despegar desde Viena., bueno comparto tu gusto en todo caso, me gusta mucho ese aeropuerto, creo que he estado ahì como 3 o 4 veces. Lucas, me fijè la poca cantidad de pasajeros en el aviòn, fue asì?. Gracias otra vez por poner los nombres de las ciudades que sobrevuelas. Me fijè que la moneda preponderante en la revista de productos de EJU es el Franco Suizo, yo pensè que EJU era una aerolinea basada en Austria y a propòsito de esto mismo, ¿el vuelo tuyo era el de regreso a TXL o el de ida para esa aeronave?. Segùn comentas al fin despuès de varios años entrarìa en operaciòn en aeropuerto de Berlin Brandenburgo, sabes que va a pasar ademàs con Schônefeld?, lo iràn a demoler?, quedarà de zona de carga?, recuerdo haber estado ahì un par de veces en ruta hacia Oslo con Norwegian y hacia Basel con Easyjet. Felicitaciones amigo mio, un abrazo desde Chile.

No es que me guste despgar de Viena, es que es el mayor aeropuerto internacional que tengo de donde vivo ahora mismo :D
Muy pocos pasajeros; es correcto. Como en la mayorái de vuelos ahora mismo... Todos sabemos el motivo por el que está ocurriendo esto...
La revista que mostré era de la división EasyJet Switzerland, de ahí el uso del CHF :) Su valor es un poco menor al €uro. EJU tiene su registro en Austria, es correcto, como tu dices.
Schonefeld está situado "en la misma parcela" que Brandenburgo. Por lo que leí, perderá su nombre y pasará a ser Brandenburgo Terminal 5.

Nunca pensé que iba a decir esto, pero creo que voy a echar de menos el aeropuerto de Tegel. Yo lo habría adecentado un poco y lo dejaría como aeropuerto regional / medio radio, la localización es inmejorable y era muy cómodo llegar al aeropuerto desde el centro o viceversa. En mi humilde opinión, un gran aeropuerto pero pobremente administrado🙁
La localización es tan inmejorable que afecta a la operativa de una manera insostenible a largo plazo. Las salidas y llegadas recorren un porrón más de millas de las necesarias para minimizar ruído a la ciudad y alrededores. Además, por donde está localizado, no puede expandirse.
Era cuestión de tiempo que ocurriese esto. Se echará de menos, pero por pura nostalgia y la cercanía al centro... a parte de eso, no veo ninguna razón objetiva por la que echarlo de menos jeje

@@OnBoardHD en eso estoy de acuerdo, el aeropuerto en sí ya estaba bastante vetusto y desfasado, creo que la nostalgia me viene debido a que a Tegel fue mi primer vuelo, y cada vez que volaba ahí recordaba la emoción que tenía aquel día.

There will be a transition period of 10 days or so in which both Tegel and Brandenburg will operate. Then Brandenburg will take all traffic and Tegel will close.
