I sure like the guitar on track #1 immediately. My first non-radio experience listening to Ray. I was just reading about how he got his music on in The Talent Code by Daniel Coyle, Chapter 4, "The Three Rules of Deep Practice", p. 81. The fellow used to work in a shoe factory in Lewiston, Maine, got a bunch of old records by Otis, Etta James, Ray Charles, and sang along in his basement. As an old ax-man myself, well, then, there's still hope for me!! Thanks, Ray, Thanks, God, Thanks, Life!!
I wish I could have seen him back home in Maine when he was still playing coffee shops and bars! Now he's coming to my current city and it's gonna cost $70 and up... talk about life's little regrets...
I'm not sure why he releases so few copies of albums like these, or cans them altogether. I don't think any of his fans mind if the music is "rougher" or whatever. It's Ray, and it sounds great.
this is my qualm as well, this was my intro to Ray and still think it's one of his greatest works. would wish this was available. big boned woman is one of my favorite tracks to cover. wish he would re-release these.
There's an interview of Ray in Australia, he explains that in 2001, how instead of a demo song, he and a friend, name escapes me, put together 10 song album instead; apparently this is it....great stuff, sadly can't find it anywhere to buy a CD. When you watch the interview, you understand what he's all about, wholesome, honest and true. Lastly, in that interview, he says his inspiration was listening to Steven Stills music.
i clicked on the link for this, thinking it was new material. Was encouraged that Ray was embracing the music i discovered him by and now it makes sense that it is early stuff.
This album is AMAZING! Ive been having a rough week. and just hearing this really cheered me up. Its exactly the music I love and enjoy! :) thank you RAY! :-) I would love to have this album on cd so I can play it for my 63yo mom who loves this guy! :-)
This guy is my absolute favourite artist. So beautiful and lovely and aaaa, I can't get enough! I covered 'Burn' and actually and if you guys wanted to check it out, it's here. Thanks so much x x Ray LaMontagne - Burn (Nicky Fair cover)
hi! is there any way that you could email it to me? my old computer crashed with all the demos on them :( I can't find this album for download anywhere!
Alexandra Morgan I do things by the book as far as music like this. Email me at MeyerLansky1978@gmail.com Do you have a google plus profile/facebook proifle?
i was in a Barnes and Nobles and heard what sounded like Pink Floyd or David Gilmore (kind of the same thing now days). When i asked the cashier if the music was Floyd, he told me that it was this guy. I wrote his name down. Listening to this, i have to say this is not Floydian. It is shit shoveling music. Not sure if i hate it (i am still listening to it), but it sure doesn't sound like it came from the same musician as that music in the store. A bit disappointed.
+Vin Rector You heard his newest release in the store, 'Ouroboros'. Indeed, his latest is totally different than any other Ray LaMontagne release. I just listened to it on RUclips and thought the same. There are tinges of Pink Floyd type effects in several songs.
“Shit shoveling.” Well, I used to listen to cool music when I cleaned the stalls, so I guess this can be read as a compliment. I will add that Ray’s last 3 albums are my favorites. I dig the Floyd-ish MMJ vibes.
Still shake my head in disbelief that this amazing man sat behind me in English class
He sat behind you in English class?! NOWAY!
Well he obviously paid attention!

oh man, forgot about the brilliance that is Roadhouse Girl. nice track listing here
Ray LaMontagne has that kind of music that is brilliant for long walks into the woods
I agree!
Totally agree..especially WINTER BIRDS..certainly worn out some headphones with that song and the album it came from.
But, ... only long walks in the woods.
So do the Grateful Dead

Where has this been in my life? Only album I have not heard, instant love :)
Ray LaMontagne is gloriously gifted, a new-age genius for this wounded, suffering world
I wish I could have seen him back home in Maine when he was still playing coffee shops and bars! Now he's coming to my current city and it's gonna cost $70 and up... talk about life's little regrets...
Buy a ticket for gods sake & get lost,i`m sure you will never forget that event for the rest of your life!

I think the rougher the better suits rays style and sounds more natural for him
It’s so sad that you can’t hear this anywhere
Why was this never released? Is Ray Lamontagne the Prince of singer-songwriters? Album after album full of stellar, unreleased material?
this is my qualm as well, this was my intro to Ray and still think it's one of his greatest works. would wish this was available. big boned woman is one of my favorite tracks to cover. wish he would re-release these.
And these are his throwaway songs. Jeez.

I love all these demos thanks for sharing I hope one day Ray will change his mind and release these demos or at least have a compilation.
Such amazing songs, I can't believe you can't buy this as an album, this would come close to trouble .
Ray's voice just gets me right here ♥️ you know. 🤠🤟
This is just so f.....ing amazing. How can anybody not just love this?
Thanks a lot for sharing this awesome stuff.
OMG, how have never heard this before.... So in love

Wish he would play some of this stuff live. Please Ray! It's so good!!
How did I not heard of this before? Sooooo beautiful!
This album is AMAZING! Ive been having a rough week. and just hearing this really cheered me up. Its exactly the music I love and enjoy! :) thank you RAY! :-) I would love to have this album on cd so I can play it for my 63yo mom who loves this guy! :-)
I came here hoping that I'd get a glimpse of Ray's voice before it was fully developed. What a disappointment. It still sounds PERFECT!
Thinkin' About You is a classic. A true summer delight
This guy is my absolute favourite artist. So beautiful and lovely and aaaa, I can't get enough! I covered 'Burn' and actually and if you guys wanted to check it out, it's here. Thanks so much x x

thanks. That stuff i liked. I will youtube that album.
+Vin Rector The albums supernova and ouroboros have the sound you are talking about. My favorite album is til the sun turns black

I'm glad I'm not you.
