Clove hitch was used to hitch up horses back in the day. It’s a fast tie knot that is hard to undo just by pulling on it. Horse riders would ride their horse up somewhere and tie it off with a clove hitch near the entrance or porch. We still have some of the old hitches outside our property in deep Texas! Great video
Fun fact, a lot of aircraft use "string tie" to secure electrical wire bundles. The main FAA approved method to string tie wire bundles is to perform a clove hitch followed by a square knot. I'd end up doing hundreds and hundreds of these in a day
From my experience the clove hitch is a lot better and more useful in so many situations. Quick and easy to tie and untie. Never had any problem using it to tie fenders on a boat or a dog to a post for example.
In the magazine "Science and Life" I read about knots as a child, this knot is good for transverse and longitudinal connections, if memory serves it was called "slave".
Learn some of the knots that are midway in cinching power between these two, I think Ashley calls them sack knot and bag knot. You can also trip them, which of course also is possible with the constrictor.
I’m pretty sure the constrictor is the snake know for paracord? If you did this know multiple times without a log I think you’d get a chain of snake knots
Imagine, wrapping rope around something and pulling tightly on both ends will constrict that object. No one has ever known this in the entirety of the world! Thank you for this brand new information.
You are a natural teacher. The way you teach is easy to understand, and the tone of your voice helps a lot.
Agreed
100%.
As a natural studant I agree
@@HK-gc7xz as unnatural student agree too
Best demo of these knots. Thx
I love how you show the constrictor again, before the clove! Such a great teaching opportunity for people to check in their heads.
Thanks for explaining the dif. Never heard of your constrictor and thought them the same after a quick first look.

Funny enough you just showed me how to open an orange one handed when my disability makes the other one not function. Thanks!
This is the clearest explanation of both knots I have ever seen.
I’ve been tying a constrictor this whole time thinking it was a clove hitch. Jeez, thanks for clarifying
This is so useful not only for outdoor activities but also for packing things in general.

I've probably doubled your view count rewatching over and over to see if you took a bite of the grapefruit peel or just the flesh. (Great vid btw)
You can make a clove hitch more secure by throwing a couple of half-hitches on the line.
THIS IS GOLDEN!!! 🤩 You are serious the god of the woods. Hahaha
We use the clone hitch in scaffolding to tow off materials such as babes of fitting metal poles etc
I used to use the clove hitch all the time as a kid on a sailboat.
I feel like two types of people watch this: survivalists and bdsm freaks.

a easy way to secure it once its tight may be just to add a knot once you have the initial tie done
Yes yes this is very good. Gotta save this 1
Constrictor: Tag end goes under the first loop. Clove Hitch: Tag end goes under the second loop.
I've always wanted to be amongst "the haves", but since watching this video, I'd much rather be amongst "the have knots".
nice now I know which one to use
Cool. I’ll only need this once.
As a woman in construction. If i tied the knot double check it😅

"Babysitting made easy with this one simple trick"
Great stuff to know.
that looks like a flight knot if u were working on electronics
The constrictor knot scares me
"That's not going anywhere" haha
Amen, I use both of these knots 🪢.
Just use a clove hitch with an extra hitch.. jeez why would you want a an untieable knot on your line..
Just do a half hitch on the clove. We haul up 50lb of tools with a clove and half hitch
Nice
✨💥🚩👌
I stand corrected
Don't let constrictor knot catch on your dingaling.
We got a bleeder!!
More like an amputee
That’s why he said it’s dangerous

I use the constrictor knot with thread to remove moles 😅
