- The televised performance from the Donmar Warehouse production. It stars Alan Cumming as the ( very sexy ) Emcee. This clip includes "Willkommen." Enjoy. :)

Absolutely nothing can top amount of chaotic bisexual energy from this performance
Then they captured the spirit of Weimar.
everyone putting the words "weirdly," "oddly," or "strangely," before "attractive" should stop kidding themselves lmao
patanella 😂😂😂
THANK YOU
suit yourself
patanella I like to call it “frighteningly sexual” lol
Agreed
Alan as Emcee is the biggest flirt with the audience character I have ever seen
In the 1998 Revival on Broadway he was even more debauched and interactive with his audience.
He is perfect in this role.
An experience I'll never forget.
“You don’t believe me?” crushes me. His mouth, face, eyes … simply brilliant! ❤️🧿
the way he says "I bet you do" always makes me melt
Danielle Johnson and the you in happy to see you
This is the best rendition of this opening number ever. The 1998 production really captures the heat, filth and raunchiness of the script. Alan Cumming adds so much to this number.
AppleTVchannel except this is the 1993 Version
@@envycentral7281 same cast though
@@envycentral7281 yes, it's a bit different from the 1998 version, though that one was also Alan Cumming. I don't like the "danciness" of the 1998 version. This one's better.
There was no 1993 production.
@@kennschmidt966 yes there was
He's a lot sleazier than Joel Grey but he is utterly hypnotic. I can't take my eyes off him for a second. He's like an androgynous satyr.
The only thing I don't like about this much raunchier version is the pronunciation of "beautiful" ... loved Joel Grey's version, yet also this one as truer to the warning of the show
I find it hilarious after he talks to the lady in front and it pans away you can hear him say faintly “hello”
There's nothing 'weirdly' attractive about Alan Cumming. He was and is a fucking doll. Excellence of the performance aside, that heart-shaped face and cupid's bow mouth are from God.
And it's his slinkiness and that dirty cheekiness. It shouldn't work but it does in spades.
omg
my sister called it 'Cabinet' dying rn
Lol at first I glanced at the name and I thought it said Cabinet but no it's Cabaret XD 😛😝😛😝😛😋
Exactly what my sister did lmao!
Alexiation cabinet is my favourite musical ❤😍
Alexiation life is a cabinet old chump , come to the cabinet
MimeCult my five year old brother called it cabinet
He would be a perfect Loki. He has such mischief in his eyes.
I know such a late reply haha, but him being Loki in the MCU yes! Not in Son Of The Mask, the movie sucked(him not so much of course)
Nah Son of the Mask Loki is top tier 10/10 best Loki
I was super drunk one night and ended up watching this and I had no idea how the fuck I found it
my friend introduced me I this and I freaking love it!!!
Kreia. Enough said from my part.
I must say, I kinda prefer Alans raunchier version to Joel Greys one.
Me too
I kinda have a crush on Alan in this
Yo también! completamente
+Dolores Haze Que es guapo en este
+Garnet is stronger than you Guapísimo, super sexy
+Dolores Haze Derecho?!!
+Garnet is stronger than you derecho?
When I was about 13 (now 22) I was obsessed with Cabaret & Alan Cumming. I would listen to the soundtrack every single day for months. I still love Alan. I am so glad I have finally found this!!
How dare they forget Helga
OH MY GOD I WAS THINKING THAT THE WHOLE REST OF THE SONG!!
Literally me ry now
she was probably a bitch that night
They also cut "That Cabaret Boys"-- "Viktor & Bobby, or is it Bobby & Viktor??? (There's really only one way to tell them apart-- I'll tell you later!)"-- and Hermann ('Ach, Hermann, go easy on the sauerkraut!')-- and the evidently forbiddingly icy Hans.
There's nothing funny about Hermann.
Alan Cumming is an absolute legend, whose versatility holds no bounds. From playing a cunning Russian computer programmer to a witty German MC!
All with a Scottish accent as well
I find Alan weirdly attractive in this.
In the way women found Tim curry sexy in rocky horror ?
+gloria lalor EXACTLY the same way 😍
Yo también! me encanta!
My first reaction to this performance was that never had I been so simultaneously siezed by the desires to f*ck someone and to shoot them in the head. He's hot and creepy in equal measure.
nothing weird about it. Alan is a very attractive man. He oozes sex appeal :D
Alan Cumming is the sexiest man alive, I swear.
That's a fact
By far the best opening to Cabaret I've ever seen. Well done Alan Cumming!!
when i think of cabaret, this is what comes to my mind.
He is having so much fun oh god I love it.
I have to admit....after going through all segments......this was really well done. Yeah, it pushed several barriers with sexuality,.....but it turned the original production and made it modern and relevant. So I like this version......casting was an excellent.
Well, as if it were a bad thing to push the barriers of sexuality
This was actually calmed down for TV, there's an even raunchier version on youtube that I prefer to this
@@chloeschultz7131 how can I find the raunchier version? :o
@@nihil6334 I know it's a bit late but here it is.
ruclips.net/video/HQ2ZcluLXjo/видео.html
Tell me if you find a cleaner recording of this though.
@@gracie3770 thanks! I had forgotten about this hahaha
Damn I wish I could have seen Alan's version live!! He is so fun to watch in this!
This is so bizarre, like nothing I've ever seen, yet oddly entertaining.
+TehxHope it's really quite true to the original...Emcee played by Joel Gray in the Film, with Liza Minelli.
"Glücklich zu sehen" has to be my faourite part! That expression!
Alan Cumming is amazing. I can't believe how easy he can do an American accent (especially for The Good Wife)
Come back to this every year, truly a marvellous reinvention of Mcee. Alan is unbeatable.
There's something about him that reminds me of Weird Al Yankovic
5:19 that awkward moment when you paid all that money to sit in the front row, and he's looking at you in the eye smile while rubbing his crotch. When that happens you know that you've got your money's worth in this show lol
Joel Grey was plain adorable and creepy. This guy is brilliantly creepy in an adorable way. Eech.
Agent Fungus oh damn that hit the nail on the head
Alan Cumming always reminds of the kind of guy who would wait just beyond the light of a street lamp and just sit there...he is the creeper of creeps and I love him!
Brilliant, positively brilliant. Can't tell you how many times I've watched it, and will continue to. It's addictive.
I see Floop is... enjoying... his time off.
Co Zy FLOOP IS A MAD MAN, HELP US, SAVE US! (3/5/18)
I loved this. I can't tell you how many times I've seen it. Alan is awesome.
Can Alan please drop how he physically reconstructs his facial features for each role? thank you.
I love how he says “you don’t believe me?” Lol
I think he is the best one for this musical...no one really compares to him :) so cool.
the film is so iconic that it is hard not to think of both at the same time
Watched Cabaret at Studio 54 last March, with Alan Cumming and Sienna Miller. He just OWNED the show, what a sexy guy ( sigh) Sienna was ok, but not a patch on Liza Minelli.
I have a video of him singing " Mein Herr" just brilliant.
Liza Minelli was fantastic, but she ruined Sally Bowles for every other actress.
Love Alan Cumming.
I had watched the film many times prior to seeing this and thought it reflected the decadence, turmoil and degradation of the period.
Nothing like this. This is so much deeper and darker, frighteningly, disturbingly, mesmerizingly so, as well it should be.
And Alan Cumming covers the scope from debauched and in control of his cabaret stage to utter, vulnerable innocence.
He wrenches all these thoughts and emotions from us, initially, almost gently, so that when we come to full realization, it is even more powerful.
He so often brings pathos, that human touch of vulnerability to the depraved, sometimes seemingly irredeemable in humanity.
I really like how the cabaret is very representative of Germany, how it seemed inviting mid 30's with its tourism and hosting the olympics. and how they are "happy" to have you in their country. I LOVE this musical for that very reason.
This is by far THE BEST VERSION OF CABARET
I love that guy. I have no idea why, but I love this dude. xD
He is creepy but adorable
... I think it was in 1967 when I was literally run into by Jill Haworth, backstage at the Papermill Playhouse (Millburn, NJ, USA) production of a lighthearted sex comedy: *There's A Girl In My Soup.* Ms. Haworth created the original Sally Bowles in the OBC. Her co-star in this summer stock run was William Shatner, who was whom I'd wanted to meet.
I was just a geeky high school kid who smoothly faked his way backstage to meet Mr. Shatner when Ms. Haworth bumped into me. When I saw who it was, I heard myself say "Miss Haworth, the NY critics were absolutely full of shit when they panned you in *Cabaret.* Sally Bowles isn't *SUPPOSED* to have much of a singing voice". And she simply grabbed my cheeks, kissed me full on the lips, looked into my eyes, and said "Thank You".
Mr. Shatner was wonderfully warm and fun, and *very* patient, lol ... he told me some fun Star Trek set disaster anecdotes & etc. I kept blushing scarlet because as he talked with me, he was wearing only a pair of costume boxer shorts he wore onstage (white with red hearts on them). You see, Mr. Shatner was at that time in great shape, and I was a butch gay Trekkie teen. What a howl ;)
Oh my god. I want to take this anecdote and tell it as my own but I'm too young ! :( Also I wasn't very butch in my gay trekkie teen years xD
Lol, use the anecdote as you wish, with my warmest best wishes. The whole thing was an absolute blast, and I'd carefully prepared for it by sending Mr. Shatner a letter c/o the theatre, onto the envelope of which I'd C&P'd a blue and white *STAR TREK* logo-- which I'd clipped from some of the Official Star Trek 8.5x11" paper I'd ordered from the show's mail catalog at the time. Unless you ran your hand over it, it looked official enough.
In the letter, I informed Mr. Shatner that I and two friends of mine would be sitting in the front row centre, and that during his curtain call, he'd be able to spot us because we'd all being holding up one hand, giving that Vulcan split-fingers "Peace" sign Whatzit we'd had to practice. (That, and raising just your left eyebrow demanded rehearsal :)
*ANY*hoo, when he came out for his curtain call, he shielded his eyes from the spotlights, and started running his pointing finger, from right to left, down the front row until he spotted us. He laughed, made the sign with his left hand, then pointed at it with his other as he mouthed the words "What that?" to us with an impish expression. My idiot friends were stunned; I just cracked up.
Having previously scouted out the side stage door before we went into the theatre, we headed for it as I quickly prepared my "cover"-- by the time I whisked through the stage door into the backstage area, I was prominently holding a folder that had the Paramount Studio logo faked onto it, along with the same STAR TREK typing paper logo. The first person I ran into, I asked "Hi, could you please tell me where Bill is, I'm from Paramount", and whoever it was pointed out his nearby dressing room, the door of which was half open. And the rest was "hystery," lolol ...
Once again I have to say how wonderfully warm, and funny he was; he absolutely loved the stunt I'd pulled, and was more than happy to relate fun anecdotes and give autographs. And when Jill Haworth bounced by and ended up spontaneously kissing me, he quipped" Hey, that's more than I ever got, I'm jealous!" to which I shot back-- without thinking-- "Well, *don't be."* And then I could feel myself furiously blushing *plaid,* probably ...
The 50's and 60's were a very dangerous times for kids like us ... and then, in 1969-- when I was 18-- Stonewall went off, and I was off to a juniour league ivy league college, all the sex, drugs & roll & roll I could handle. Looking back now, it was ... *LEGENDARY.*
I (sort of) grew up to be a master's level social psychologist, and my thesis centred on all the newly reclaimed history that had been swept under the carpet for centuries: *Democracy* (Harmodius & Aristogeiton), *The Renaissance* (The Usual Suspects), *The Enlightenment* (Sir Francis Bacon), and *The Digital Information and Communications Revolution* (Sir Alan Mathison Turing, who suicided in 1954-- when I was 3 years old).
My thesis successfully proved the assertion that *WE* had been directly responsible for fomenting these four most positive, progressive and productive psychosocial paradigms shifts in Western Civilisation ... because of the essential innate nature we have regarding *resisting Tyranny.* And as such, we are absolutely brutally test-track proven *to be both the conscience, and salvation of Humanity.*
It is therefore no wonder that "They" burn us at the closest stake whenever possible. Yet fret not ... *They'll just make more of us.*
One again, my warmest regards. *And stay strong.* It ain't over yet ...
Dude...write a book. I could read chapters and chapters of these stories.
This is fun to watch. You get to see how aCummings evolved from this earlier performance to his later perfected dance and and movements
I saw this on Broadway with Alan and Natasha Richardson. It was the best thing I ever saw in a theater.
OMG thos dimples tho
audrey nguyen *b
It is aesthetic and sounds with a body odor in a good sense. When listening to Alan · Cumming 's singing voice, I realized the importance of human fleshy feeling. It is a wonderful performance.
Amanda Palmer of the Dresden Dolls is playing the Emcee in Boston this fall :D I'm so excited to see her
Omg. I absolutly love this!
This is the first time I've seen any version of Cabaret anywhere, not even on stage. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING.
I really want to see it live now, but I don't think anyone could come close to Alan Cummings performance.
He is amazing
I was a big Alan Cumming fan a few years back and always lamented that being from Oz I'd never get to see him in Cabaret - (I have the soundtrack which I've heard a million times). He was on Rove last nite which made me think of this again. Because I now have broadband - I can actually watch stuff on RUclips now - I looked up "alan cumming - cabaret" hoping to see 1 musical number - never would I have thought that I'd get the opportunity to see the whole show - thanks so much for posting this!!!
I will now say “beautiful” the way Jim did for the rest of my life
Watching Allen Cummings wilkomenn is watch made me love him. I'd love to see more of him and the stuff he's been in
Alan Cummings CAPTURES the EERIE SPIRIT of the original MOST PERFECTLY... (And with originality, indeed...) The Joel Grey performance, while it might not ever be bettered, CAN BE MATCHED if re-interpreted in the way Mr Cummings does... 'CABARET' as a WORK, is actually a HORROR FILM on several levels... (The same goes for the stage productions...) We, THE AUDIENCE, all KNOW what's going to happen... (THEY DON'T!!!) Cummings, OF COURSE, makes the character his own... THE DIFFERENCE between HIS PORTRAYAL of 'THE MC' and that of Joel Grey's is ALMOST ALARMING!!! (Grey performs, powerfully, in a necessary vacuum given the script, BUT IF YOU WATCH CUMMINGS CLOSELY, he's somehow aware of the fact that he's on a hiding to nothing... ) He is indeed, in character, hastening his own ending... He knows he's FUCKED... He knows they'll TAKE HIM in the end... But he can do nothing else... (*THIS IS GENIUS ACTING!!!!!*) Much respect to Mr Cumming and what he brought to this iconic role... xx SF
I am in love with the Emcee as played by Alan Cumming... he is completely captivating.
I was lucky enough to see this live [at one of the tables]
Is that the guy from spy kids
Ella Bella yes
+Ella Bella Floop is a madman, help us save us
Is that guy from spy kids the Emcee from Cabaret?
Yes, yes we know.. Those films were bad but he's my hero I'll fight you.
This was an episode of Floop's show that didn't make the final cut.
i looove the way he asks "you don't believe me?" ... it wants me to cuddle him AND take a big step back, because it's cute and creepy at the same moment ...
The accents is by far the best bit about this
It's fun to watch this again! :-))
The opener guy is absolutely fantastic.
Oh dear god I want to pay Alan Cummings to say gentlemen over and over and over again for me. I LOVE how his accent changes.
His acting is perfect.
I first saw Caberet in my theater class during undergrad I've been coming back to this video ever since I can't get enough
he’s the best EMCEE ever
I was going to see this play live today, but I got sick. This is the next best thing.
THIS WAS SO ATTRACTIVE OH MY GOD
Oh god I would DIE for money to see him before it ends! ;-;
Me too!! ;___;
well you'd be dead so it'd be kind of hard to watch
+Virginia Rutledge ziiing
Don't worry he's coming on a 2016 tour for Cabaret. I'm so ready to see Alan Cumming live... He is amazing.
+Becca Lecatsgs Are you serious? I need some proof. Can you send me a link that confirms this?
Hold it right there, mister. There were no Lawton saxophone mouthpieces in Wiemar Germany.
The most perfect. I've seen none better.
OH MY GOSH!!!!! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! I really am extremely grateful. I love Alan and have wanted to see this for sooooo long. Thank you soooo much!!
OOOOH boy I've just been cast in this role.. cannot wait to see how they want me to play it!!
Mein Gott. I would have KILLED to see this version live.
OMG... he is absolutely fabulous, absolutely perfect... BRAVO !!!
Alan Cumming is spectacular at changing his roles for different movies!!! I've never heard of Cabaret before, but I love his performance in this, because he's the only reason I watched this!
Thank you so much for posting this!
The point is that, though the Joel Grey performance is wonderful, it's still a film, and the point about a live show ABOUT a live show is that it's LIVE and you can never fully experience it recorded; even this RUclips upload is just a record of how it MIGHT feel to be IN the room with the performers.
The thing about live performance it is CANNOT be captured. There is an energy, an ambiance and a smell in the room that does not transfer.
Coming back to this production several years later. Only today I found out that the actress for Schneider in this production is the same actress that plays Kreia / Darth Traya in Knights of the Old Republic. I am fangirling so hard right now.
Oh my god, thank you SO MUCH for posting these!!! I have wanted to see the Donmar version for years. Thank you thank you!!!
props to the clarinet for staying focused :D
Been looking for this remake everywhere!!!!
Thanks por uploading!!
Worth the watch thanks to Alan LOL
Got to see this live. God it was good!
I think the kit Kat club is supposed to represent concentration camp propaganda like when they said everything in Germany was perfect and life was beautiful and they had no problems
+Cole McDaniel Kit Kat Klub (KKK)
It think it's supposed to represent Germany and Berlin as a whole at the time. The decline, you know?
Maybe Joel Grey's Kit Kat Club, as he explicitly said his Emcee was an allegory for Hitler, but Alan Cummings' Kit Kat Club is definitely Weimar-era hedonism made manifest.
Kit kat club could also be showing Germany before shit went down. In the play he's wearing a necklace, and I'm pretty sure it's a magendavid (plays in later, and is kind of a smart little character detail), and all of the girls are all free to be however they want. They are all free of all standards (because strong gender roles of the time), because "leave your troubles outside", which would be the rising nazi germany.
I love the fact that Alan Cummings is a bisexual! Just like me :)
....okay.. wow...
now that's over and done with, how freaking awkward would the early rehearsals for this have been? :D
Why do I find Alan Cumming weirdly attractive in this?
This video has a million views the rest have a couple hundred thousand and some even less. So you know people watched the first part and were either creeped out, or uninterested.
is that kermit in your icon?
Alan Cumming was amazing in this production! Thanks for postin!
Fantastic first part!!! Orchestra is great! Acting, staging, atmosphere...I feel are right dead on. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of this.
thanks for posting!!!!
OH MY GOD FIIIINALLY!!!
I've wanted to see this for ages.
Thank you thank you thank you for uploading this!! :)
THANK YOU for posting this.
This is AWESOME. I got to find some time to watch the whole thing!
I will watching the rest....this looks good. as a kid I saw the commercial so much but as an adult I can appreciate this more
Thank you thank you thank you for posting this
*dies* This is SO AWESOME!!! You're a MIRACLE WORKER!! I never thought I'd see this ANYWHERE!!!
Also that audience is very harsh lol
Thank you very much for uploading this :DDDDD
thanks for this. It's fantabulous.
Thank you for posting this! Highly appreciated!
If you can upload more donmar warehouse performance, please please.
THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!!
I've been waiting so long to see this!
3:19 his face is like 'Well ya do'
