So pleased you liked the video and found it useful. Many thanks for the feedback
Happy carving
cheers Ben
As a newbie, I have to say that this is one of the most helpful videos I've seen. Great work.
Starting now, I feel the same way.
Same here, best tutorial so far. Well done!
Clear, concise, just what I needed.
Same here. Hes good.
Agreed - very simple, useful and immediately practical. I love the emphasis on safety.
Wish I'd seen this video before i tried to make my first spoon. I made so many mistakes. Thanks for sharing.
Well glad to enjoyed the video and has given you some good tips. Happy carving. cheers Ben
Ben, I don't know about carving spoons but I know about backs! Your lower back will give you problems in a few years. You need to raise your chopping block so you're not bent over so much. Try and stand as straight up as possible. Nice vid and lots of advice, most on the safest way of cutting. Give your lower back some consideration as well.
BOY! can I agree with that! At 69 I'm really paying for it big time. Now if I bend over for even a few minutes, I'm feeling for the next hour or two. Save your back now and you won't have to pay for it later.
I like making spoons, made quite a few of them. Think I will be making them better after watching this video. Thanks for that.
A real treat to watch. It’s so nice to see a demonstration where the presenter isn’t in love with the sound of his own voice and just gets on with the job. Thank you for a really inspirational video.
Very nice Ben. Came back to watch it again.
Very thorough, thank you. This is what I expect from an instructional video.
Really appreciate the craft, but also the safety lessons. Makes me more confident. Thanks, Ben.
Excellent video. Definitely the most helpful one I have watched. Thanks so much for this!
Hi Ben, this is probably the best instructional video about spoon carving I have seen yet! Thank you for not only showing technique but also highlighting safety aspects of handling axe and knife!
Great explanation , thanks .
Watched this with my 5 yr old daughter and she was interested throughout, now wants to Make spoon with me this weekend !!!
Awesome
Cheers
Rob
she is porobably already on tiktok.
This is the video that I have been looking for! You answered a lot of my questions. Thank you so much!
Very educational. You should be very proud. Thank you to everyone who helped made this. It will benefit so many others.
You are an excellent teacher. Really clear advice and demonstration. I feel like I could actually make this spoon. Obviously my axe control is nothing like yours. Thanks for the video
Perfect length, no fluff, well edited, and fantastic information. One tip I'd add for beginners would be to carve the bowl first. This might assist when correcting overcut in the bowl.
Ii just ordered carving tools to make spoons and cups. You video was great. Thank you.
the best spoon carving tutorial i have had the pleasure to watch . a great refresher for me , am lookin forward to getting out there with my axe tomorrow thank you for sharing your skills
This is probably the best introduction to soon carving I have seen!
On of the best spoon carving videos ever! You are really trying to keep it as simple as possible also for people who have English not as their mother tongue ;-) Always one eye on the safty and and the other one on the result! I'm starting my business with spoons and bowls right now in Sweden and I'm very glad, I found you here on RUclips! By the way - great homepage! Greets from the North, Peter!

Very high quality of video and lessons overall. Very educational. Keep it up. Thumbs up
Thanks for the tutorial, I do a bit of metal and woodwork, so I'm gonna try this out. Also, the safety are excellent. Not only do you know what you are doing, but you're making sure we do too.
I've just purchased my first Crooked knife and I"m about to start learning to make spoons and bowls. This tutorial is my starting point. Thank you very much for it.
As I was watching the video I was thinking "man, that guy has a super nice blade, I wonder what it is?" Checked is website after the video ended and was blown away when I realized that he made it. Awesome!
What a fantastic video. Information delivered perfectly. Almost could not believe that it was 20 minutes long. Kept me interested from start to finish.
That was a pure pleasure to watch. Thank you, Ben.
Wow, this has to be the best instructional video I’ve seen yet on wood spoon carving covering all the basics. Thanks for sharing and inspiring me, can’t wait for my axe to come in so I can get started! Definitely subscribing to your channel.
Holy cow, your axe work is good.
Great video, very useful information, professionally done.
Great lesson, thank you for sharing it. I bought some carving knives from you several years back. They have much longer handles than the one you're using for carving the bowl in this video. I cannot remember what you called them years back. It struck me as a Native American name. Just found the name by scrolling down your list of spoon carving videos: Mocotaugan is the word I was looking for. When you get to 73, the remembering gets a bit tougher. Thanks again for the fine video.
So pleased you enjoyed the video.
Sure the Mocotaugan is an amazing tool. Love the history behind them. Many thanks cheers Ben
fantastic! you are a very good teacher. i enjoyed watching you but now i'll be watching it again doing it. thank you so much for this.
Cheers for Canada!

Excellent video. Very informative, concise, yet comprehensive. Subscribed...
Really good video! well explained. Lots of interesting pointers. But take care of your back!
love how you consistently mentioned the safety info.
I often remind myself how you work (and watch you videos when its cold in the workshop) and how its inspired me.
I often find I have gone off at a tangent over the year.... lol and a quick reminder really helps (and I cut faster funnily enough)
Very well explained! Thank you so much.
Great video. You explained each cut and hand position exceptionally well. Love your teaching style.
Absolutely brilliant video.
Ben...really enjoyed watching your artistry!!! Thanks for all the great info. I'm looking forward to making one myself. Rusty

Well done; clear and concise. You’re a fine teacher.
Hi Ben, thank you for making such a great tutorial. I've been struggling with spoon carving but your video just answered a lot of questions. Also, the quality of the image is great. Very appreciated!
Hi Ben Congratulations on this 'safety first' demonstration. You are an experienced craftsman with the skills to transmit clearly to others. Excellent combination. Thank You. Sally, in France 🇫🇷 - Dorset Born. Itching to try this but will start with a spatula!
Hi Sally, many thanks for the comment and glad you found the video useful. Good luck with the spatula and if you need more help let us know. Happy carving, Cheers Ben

Great instruction!! Thanks for the lesson. All the best from Canada.
Wow that hatchet is scary sharp! Great vid. Thanks Ben👍
Great job, many thanks. Picked up some excellent points and will be returning from time to time to refresh my memory as I start my first.
I just started carving a spoon last night and ended up slicing nicely into my thumb, so it's very good to go back and see the proper techniques for it. Although the spoon does look a brilliant shade of brown now :)
Great tips there Ben, thanks for sharing!
Fantastic Work & Spoon Dude. Great Video. Keep up the great work. Nick.
A perfect briefing on how to carve a spoon made of wood.
Dude! Great tutorial! Thanks for sharing all your techniques, incredibly helpful and well thought out. Truly a master at this!
Amazing tutorial
Great video Ben, thanks.
Just found this video and find it far superior to others on the same subject. In reviewing the comments I took note of one expressing concern with lower back issues using your axe technique. After 2 back surgeries I would not be able to use the axe as you have. But I will use your shaping instructional with a shaving horse and drawknife to allow me to stand up when I finish. Ha
Thanks Ben, this has been super helpful.
It's really great to watch---and learn
Ben is such a hero! Would love a ladle and bowl (hand tools.. not from lathe) instructional videos
