She has such in depth knowledge of the machinations of the politics and zeitgeist in France. Particularly interesting are her thoughts on Macron's ideas about the EU. " ... the EU compact is a good, right and beautiful thing, somewhere between politics, ideology and religion.". This encapsulates the reasons the UK decided to leave. We joined the EU as a trading partnership - not for the over arching control that the EU wants every country to adhere to.
Fascinating comments on current French society! What British culture sees as essential opportunities for a fairer society, French culture sees as racial profiling that harks back to the dark days of the Vichy regime. Other memorable quote: "the cowardice of intellectuals in the face of radical Islam".
i remember speaking to a French women and the discussion mentioned Black people, she said France doesn't have Black people , I said sure it does, she actually meant that she couldn't recognise a person as Black, France just had French people, they don't have Black ,Asian or whatever everyone just French. It's a very weird cognitive dissidence
@@davidrenton It certainly changed. I've been called "peau blanc" multiple times when I was in Paris two months ago. Like the journalist says, the "French" identity is vanishing into multiculturalism, which is indeed worrying and, dare I say, bad for its social fabric.
The comments below reflect a general concern across the board of a perceived lack of loyal and dedicated leadership by most Western democratic nations, with most politicians, whether in power or as opposition, concentrating on emphasising their own petty profiles and this si quite neatly summarised by a commentator 6 days ago as, Sharon Harden, which appears to have been edited by interfering Face-book, however the essence is per this quote: Sharon Harden 6 days ago (edited) "Life is falling apart for most Western countries, not just France due to the arrogance, incompetence and corruption of their leaders!" Perhaps "ignorance and total lack of comprehension of the real world by all these privileged class incumbent leaders, and their equally ignorant, out of touch opponents" could be added to the quoted comment. French Journalist Anne-Elisabeth Moutet, is very articulate, but she speaks English with a very dominant BBC lilt and no sign of any French accent, which remains a little puzzling, however the issues she raises, including the increasing crime rate and religious based terrorism are similar to concerns in all Western democracies, particularly those nations who have rashly flung open their borders. Her interview is somewhat overwhelming because of the volume and variety of the concerns raised, but a key point near the end is the general apathy and consequent very low turnout at the elections. Its no point complaining if Macron is elected on the votes of just a small minority, like 20% of the total population, so maybe a lesson they could adopt is Australia's compulsory voting system, successfully in place since 1926.
I think the politicians are not responsible. The different industries and their lobbies, are. destroying health system, retirement / pension system, deleting norms of protection for food, taking away old cheap efficient medication. Lobbyists are the key.
It simply not true that Islamic terror attack have not impacted the UK, though discourse remains limited. What is true is that the French secular model highlights sectarian issues more clearly.
@@a.j4600 Oh but they did admit that multiculturalism has been a complete failure, Merkel in 2010, 2015 and 2019, Cameron and Sarkozy in 2011, Macron in 2019. They say that but keep doing everything they can to make sure everything keeps on going like it always did.
The reporter avoided the topic "La Republique est moi" and so did Anne-Elisabeth Moutet who had the chance to develop at least a little, especially when her elaborate answer pointed out that the French are lovers of satire and have a long tradition.
@@plwn6468 If Macron had been the president of France at the time of Hitler's dictatorship, France would probably have been Germany's ally. It is not about left, or other parties that might fuel the moment, but about being on right side of history. Once again with a Macron back in Hitler's time, France would have been on the wrong side of history.

I really enjoyed this interview. More like this please.

What a beautifully spoken woman. Put's us Brits to shame with our arrogance of distaste for learning other languages.

EXCELLENT! This is a great insider's view of the political conditions in France today.
