      @johnprichardson3741 4 года назад +1

      6.0 Bros, I went with Jake at Innovative Diesel. I mostly run the tow tube. I just put $10,000 with new heads, ARP Studs, updated head gaskets, Sinister EGR delete, new stock turbo. The Diesel mechanic that did the work said he thought the street tune was too much and stick with the 65hp tune. Bummer. I like the street custom tune. I would appreciate your thoughts on this matter. Thanks. Great info.

    • @six0bros
      @six0bros  4 года назад +1

      sounds like you had a very thorough refresh of the engine. with studs and heads if the work was done correctly I think a good street tune is fine. say something around 100 to 120 hp. Now all out race tunes are just going to be harder on it no matter what. now your build should do fine with a mild turbo upgrade and a race tune, but I am a big believer in o ring heads. what cylinder heads did you go with and do you know if they have o rings?

    Brand new to the tuning game and appreciate the info here! 04 Excursion 6.0 that’s studded, EGR deleted, 4” exhaust and K&N intake. I’m considering the SCT GTX so I can tune and monitor, but my biggest question is about mpg improvement. I’ve got two trips coming up and need best fuel economy possible. Trip 1 is 4K miles with loaded truck, but no trailer. Trip 2 is 4,500 miles with loaded truck and 8500lb travel trailer. I’d really appreciate any advice you have to offer.

    • @six0bros
      @six0bros  4 года назад +2

      The first thing in would do is get an s&b filter for that k&n intake. S&b makes replacement filters for a lot of competitors product's so get that first. K&n does not filter enough. Then I do not think the gtx works on the excursion. So I would go with custom tunes on like an x4 or I believe the bdx works but make sure it does first. Honestly sct for monitoring is kinda crappy certain things do not read right. However for tuning it is hands down the absolute best for 6.0s the company I got the best mileage out of stopped tuning it was windrunner performance engineering. I would now recommend checking out truck source diesel, or power hungry performance for tuning. Idp is great but I really like them mainly for running at the track. Warren diesel also has great tunes

    I sold it when I was 17 and have been trying to track it down and luckily at the age of 25 I was able to buy it back. Looks just like it did when I first owned it except the previous owner took the bully dog programmer off(probably cause it scared the living mess out of him)😂😂 but I was checking to see if bully dog or SCT would be better. Hey buddy, I've got a couple of questions for you. Do you do the trans relearn every time you load a new tune? Have you had any issues with tunes throwing code U0306 Software incompatibility with FICM (this is my big issue right now and can't get any answers from anyone)? Do you have issues when using cruise control, maybe it hits WOT to increase speed only 5 mph?

    • @six0bros
      @six0bros  4 года назад +2

      So when you flash in a different tune there is a relearn to some extent. However it is not technically the full relearn process but it does take time to adjust yes. As for the compatibility with the ficm I would definitely consult the tuner. I am not aware of the ficm being an issue as far as ECM tuning goes. Is it all of your tunes or just 1? Have you tried returning to stock?

    • @six0bros
      @six0bros  4 года назад +2

      I have had tunes that when I only need to speed up a little it will down shift and go. If I had to guess it doesnt really hold the gear it wants to down shift for just that little but. Some tunes are more sensitive than others for that. I have a dyno video where it will not hold the gear at all for the pulls. Yet other tunes hold onto them to much. This was one of the reasons I really liked wpe tuning because they did such a great job of having that perfect balance

    • @CatTurd01
      @CatTurd01 4 года назад +1

      @@six0bros I might give them a try, I really like my SPD tune, but it doesn't work with cruise control very well and when I let off the pedal when doing +50, it feels like the trans is locked in and just feels too rough, IMO. I don't think it is, but it just doesn't feel right, and I'd prefer not to destroy it. Maybe I need to do a complete relearn with SPD. The tyrant tunes are great for cruise control, but I'm having the communication issue with them. They blow lots of smoke and act like a cylinder is down when I'm in my cruise band.
      Only my tunes from tyrant have the communication issue, the SPD tune seems to communicate well. I have gone to stock, but I had a different (what felt like a slipping issue that isn't present in any tune) show up. I should try it again since I've replaced my FICM control module. The communication is still present after the control module was replaced, too. So, I guess that is a separate issue that wouldn't be caused by the module.

    • @six0bros
      @six0bros  4 года назад +2

      I would say for some of what you described with the transmission you should do a fluid change. not a flush but just drop the pan and refill with a new filter. change out both filters. There really are lots of great options for tuning out there. warren diesel, gearhead, quick tricks, power hungry performance. those are the list of ones I plan to try when the white truck is back.

    • @littlefinkle7757
      @littlefinkle7757 4 года назад +2

      On some tuners, if you completely replaced the FICM you will get a communication error, that usually gets retaught to the ECM just after changing. I know Bully dog will remotely reset the Turner can when you plug it in the Turner can relearn it. Seems like SCT did also. The last time I was able to just rebuild the mechanical part of the FICM and avoid the electronic relearning.

      Sorry I have not made that video yet but I will soon. So first the company I am about to review tunes next on is blessed performance they will be sponsoring a few 6.7 videos in the tuning department. They do a lot of 6.0 tuning and people love them. Use affiliate code SIX0BROS I believe he was going to offer a discount on tuning. Other good companies I have tried truck source diesel, innovative diesel power hungry performance. Companies that have great reputations Warren diesel, gear head, quick tricks

      The live wire is perfect for tuning but as a monitor it isn't isn't best. It'll due for somethings but it leaves a lot to lot to desired. Also I believe it reads ebp incorrectly. Also can't really be expanded for sensors the truck doesn't have. I recommend the edge cts insight. So tune with the sct it comes with and monitor with the edge I feel you should buy. I recommend buying an egt setup for monitoring fuel pressure and egt down the road. What’s your take on bullydog gt tuners for these trucks? Is it true that they don’t completely erase off your pcm?

    • @six0bros
      @six0bros  3 года назад +2

      For a 6.0 I wouldn't worry about that. That is more of a warranty issue than anything else. Most tuners for the 6.0 will leave a "footprint" of some kind on the truck. Now as for the tuner itself I wouldn't recommend it. I know bulldog and sct are owned by the same company but I would just go with sct. I think one of the bully dog devices is similar to sct but I'm not 100% on that or if you can get custom tunes for it.
