For the 6.0 the sct tuners are hands down the best. It will tune the trans and ecm at the same time which will help keep the transmission safe and shift great. H&S was more of a 6.4 thing than anything else. Sct hands down is better for a 6.0 and there are more options for custom tunes out there
there are a few guys hung up on them but for the 6.0 man not worth it. they were really more a 6.4 and 6.7 tuner and even in those platforms they are no longer in use.
I’m looking at this video because when I was 15 I got my first truck lifted, stacks, RBP grille, bullet proofed it and so on and I personally used a bully dog and it was NUTS. The power was insane. I thought it was loud before but it was rolling and screaming like crazy. I sold it when I was 17 and have been trying to track it down and luckily at the age of 25 I was able to buy it back. Looks just like it did when I first owned it except the previous owner took the bully dog programmer off(probably cause it scared the living mess out of him)😂😂 but I was checking to see if bully dog or SCT would be better. Mine with Bully did amazing, but my buddy had his with SCT and his went amazing also. So I’m just trying to decide which one to use to reprogram my truck again.
Sct is the preferred tuner for the 6.0. It will allow you to get custom tunesnto support any future mods. I have affiliate codes for blessed performance custom tunes use code six0bros for 10% off also. That same code will get you 5%off performance turbos from turbo time usa they are also a channel sponsor and thats an affiliate code as well.
I did not have it bored over. I kept the same rings and pistons also the same rods. I think this may be part of my current issue with the truck. As for rebuild kits. I know kill devil diesel does sell rebuild kits and this is who I would order from
Can I run an edge insight cts 2 with a set x4? I already have an edge cts2 and want to run an x4 fir tuning. My excursion is fully bulletproofed and deleted
Hey buddy, I've got a couple of questions for you. Do you do the trans relearn every time you load a new tune? Have you had any issues with tunes throwing code U0306 Software incompatibility with FICM (this is my big issue right now and can't get any answers from anyone)? Do you have issues when using cruise control, maybe it hits WOT to increase speed only 5 mph?
So when you flash in a different tune there is a relearn to some extent. However it is not technically the full relearn process but it does take time to adjust yes. As for the compatibility with the ficm I would definitely consult the tuner. I am not aware of the ficm being an issue as far as ECM tuning goes. Is it all of your tunes or just 1? Have you tried returning to stock?
I have had tunes that when I only need to speed up a little it will down shift and go. If I had to guess it doesnt really hold the gear it wants to down shift for just that little but. Some tunes are more sensitive than others for that. I have a dyno video where it will not hold the gear at all for the pulls. Yet other tunes hold onto them to much. This was one of the reasons I really liked wpe tuning because they did such a great job of having that perfect balance
@@six0bros I might give them a try, I really like my SPD tune, but it doesn't work with cruise control very well and when I let off the pedal when doing +50, it feels like the trans is locked in and just feels too rough, IMO. I don't think it is, but it just doesn't feel right, and I'd prefer not to destroy it. Maybe I need to do a complete relearn with SPD. The tyrant tunes are great for cruise control, but I'm having the communication issue with them. They blow lots of smoke and act like a cylinder is down when I'm in my cruise band. Only my tunes from tyrant have the communication issue, the SPD tune seems to communicate well. I have gone to stock, but I had a different (what felt like a slipping issue that isn't present in any tune) show up. I should try it again since I've replaced my FICM control module. The communication is still present after the control module was replaced, too. So, I guess that is a separate issue that wouldn't be caused by the module.
I would say for some of what you described with the transmission you should do a fluid change. not a flush but just drop the pan and refill with a new filter. change out both filters. There really are lots of great options for tuning out there. warren diesel, gearhead, quick tricks, power hungry performance. those are the list of ones I plan to try when the white truck is back.
On some tuners, if you completely replaced the FICM you will get a communication error, that usually gets retaught to the ECM just after changing. I know Bully dog will remotely reset the Turner can when you plug it in the Turner can relearn it. Seems like SCT did also. The last time I was able to just rebuild the mechanical part of the FICM and avoid the electronic relearning.
Either will be really good. I have not gotten my hands on a cts 3 yet, but I do hear they are really good. I would say that honestly which ever you get the best deal is your best bet. The cts 2 is really good, but my understanding is the CTS 3 is better.
Thanks for all your vids I appreciate the info! I have an edge CTS2 monitor, if I was was to get an SCT to TUNE, how the heck would I combine those two together (physically)? I have read people can use those in conjuction with each with great success, is there some sort of OBD coupler?
so when you use the sct tuner you only have it plugged in temporarily. So it is plugged in and as soon as the tune is done you unplug it and you're done. plug your edge back in and you're good to go
so when you use the sct tuner you only have it plugged in temporarily. So it is plugged in and as soon as the tune is done you unplug it and you're done. plug your edge back in and you're good to go
The main reason I do not recommend a device like that on a 6.0 has to do with transmission tuning. Mainly the lack there of and people tend to sotf with that and without letting the transmission relearn it can be a little hard on parts. I would highly recommend switching to an sct device for tuning.
No problem man. glad you enjoy it. I am hoping to grow the 6.7 content and down the road share the 6.0 and 6.7 content a little more equally. However I still really love the 6.0 and cannot wait to start working that truck again!
Hey, big fan of your videos. I'm always looking to be educated more on the 6.0! Hasn't PHP stopped making custom tunes? Also, not all tuners work as well with FICM tunes as others, do you have any tuner recommendations regarding that?
If you let your tuner know that you plan to do ficm tunes a lot will work especially the guys that are pretty die hard into the platform will. Warren diesel would be someone I would check out for that. Gearhead comes to mind. I thought power hungry still did tunes you just had to buy from one of their dealers

6.0 Bros I have a question I really hope you can help me with. I have an 05 Ford Excursion 6.0 and I want to buy the SCT Gtx tuner. When I go to the Amazon link you posted in the description it says “NOT COMPATIBLE WITH MY VEHICLE”. When I went to Thoroughbred Diesels website it says the same thing. Is my truck too old to work with this tuner or something???
Sorry I have not made that video yet but I will soon. So first the company I am about to review tunes next on is blessed performance they will be sponsoring a few 6.7 videos in the tuning department. They do a lot of 6.0 tuning and people love them. Use affiliate code SIX0BROS I believe he was going to offer a discount on tuning. Other good companies I have tried truck source diesel, innovative diesel power hungry performance. Companies that have great reputations Warren diesel, gear head, quick tricks
I am about to run blessed performance and he has been great to work with. He has a website and is on Instagram. Other tuners I recommend truck source diesel, Warren diesel php. At blessed performance mention code SIX0BROS for a discount
@@six0bros what about ficm tunes, I don't see much talk about them, the truck I'm getting is completely bulletproofed other than the ficm and I wanted to know if I should buy one and get it tuned right away
So I have not messed with ficm tunes yet however I fully plan to. I hear people say a good ficm tune ontop of their ecm tune gave them faster turbo spool up and a cleaner running truck. I think they are worth it but they wont add a ton of power ontop of the ecm tuning but they help really refine the way the truck runs
Gents, can anyone help me with a SCT-X4 that I just purchased with can tunes. Please use RETURN TO STOCK to put vehicle back to original state. it is the same message from the get-go and tried 3 times to return to stock but no luck. however, my radio, windows, security, dashboard all works fine, no crank. many thanks guys.
Sorry to hear about this man. They may need to send you a new file to correct this. I have heard of rate issues but they have happened enough. Not sure on what fixes there have been. Have you gotten through to sct yet?
@@six0bros thanks man for responding to my call. I was on the phone with STC tech support this morning and uploaded a new file on my STC tuner over remote connect to my and on to the tuner. Reconnect the tuner and tech asked me to verify the V-batt (voltage of the battery) with key in off & in on position for the draw. the draw difference was 12.4v off position and 11.5v on position. we disconnected the sub-woofer and still. finally tech concluded the there must be something connected the draws too much power and I need to troubleshoot what it is drawing almost 1volt.
@@six0bros the batteries are about a year old - per previous owner. After the key is switched into on position the voltage drops to 11.5V and stays there. the error code is #110-D8. failed to write to ECM
Now they got all this new stuff....I love my edge evolution cts2 due to the layout I can actually read it while driving....con doesn't hold custom tunes ...but on level 4 she rips
the edge is hands down the best monitoring solution out there. I mean forscan is great but for having a device out there like the edge is the best. I want to try the new cts3 but i am going to wait.
I don't know much about them other than at one point they were at the top with the 6.4 but I truly know very little about them today and if they are still relevant
I just got a 2006 6.0 with only 133000 on it. Sucks when I bought it 2 months ago..life was different.. lol.. now it’s gotten more issues. About to drop $6000-7000 finishing the bulletproof. . May end up about 10 with the ficm and new turbo.. when I got it.. it was 3000 now HOLY SHITFIRE!!!
Very sluggish on take off after 2nd gear it starts moving better. Not really any issues yet. Just going to get it done before the problems really start. When I got it had i a different financial situation..lol. Really don’t know shit about vehicles even less about diesels. Just I know the 6.0 has issues. Got some surface rust underneath I didn’t notice
Has any of the work been done yet? For your issue before spending a lot of money you may not need to I would check ficm voltage, fuel pressure(under load) icp and ipr values.
But I do plan on little by little shooting for about 700hp. Torque will follow..lol. Most want as much up from parts as I can get before adding tuner or programmer
The egr has been deleted but if it has to be reprogrammed after that idk if they did. It’s straight piped with 5in performance tip…🤷♂️🤷♂️. And an Air Aid box and filter.
Absolutely love the content and information @6.0 Bros! My wife and I are flying down to Cali on Wednesday to pick up a 2004 f250. It’s already been fully proofed has 135k miles. It has a live wire already on it. But is there a better one you would recommend. It will be a work truck. I work in construction so I will be towing alittle bit. But it will be a daily driver. I appreciate any help. Thanks for the awesome content!!
The live wire is perfect for tuning but as a monitor it isn't isn't best. It'll due for somethings but it leaves a lot to lot to desired. Also I believe it reads ebp incorrectly. Also can't really be expanded for sensors the truck doesn't have. I recommend the edge cts insight. So tune with the sct it comes with and monitor with the edge I feel you should buy. I recommend buying an egt setup for monitoring fuel pressure and egt down the road. Here is an affiliate link to what I recommend and if you need any other links let me know happy to get them for you and thanks for your support on the channel amzn.to/3sEK7m2
I have had a hard time finding him as well. I am sponsored by blessed performance and he has tunes that have some similar characteristics. Use affiliate code six0bros for 10% off his tuning. Now some companies I'm not associated with that do great jobs would be truck source diesel and Warren diesel. Once the new build on my 6.0 is up I plan to do very thorough reviews of all these companies and their tunes
For a 6.0 I wouldn't worry about that. That is more of a warranty issue than anything else. Most tuners for the 6.0 will leave a "footprint" of some kind on the truck. Now as for the tuner itself I wouldn't recommend it. I know bulldog and sct are owned by the same company but I would just go with sct. I think one of the bully dog devices is similar to sct but I'm not 100% on that or if you can get custom tunes for it.
@@six0bros I find when I put the transmission tune in with the bullydog shifts were really harsh and seemed to slam into the next gear. If I could afford to get an sct live wire that what I would go to. A friend recommended bullydog and I don’t like the trans tune and ended up pulling the trans tune out
I like the sct x4 personally. The live wire isn't super user friendly or that great compared to other monitors. I wouldn't change tunes often especially if there is no trans tuning to deal with the extra power. I would run it on a low settling

I will let you know when I get them and what I think. I will probably run performance for daily because everyone including Matt have said they get the best mileage from that one.
I remember that one bought the other or something, but I do not know if the bully dog stuff has can use the same software for custom tunes. Do you know the answer. I would love to add it if they can.
I ended up getting the SCT Livewire Ts and I’m happy with it. I wanted the Gtx but for whatever reason it’s not compatible with my 05 Excursion. I don’t know what the difference is between the Excursion and the F-250 but SCT themselves told me it wouldn’t work with my Excursion.
I am glad you like it man. The FTC looks cool I gotta say that, but the live wire is nice too. I wonder why it wont work. They never got back to me about it.
Gearheads tuning was my go to. But the Innovative Diesel Tow tune with the full exhaust brake feature has been the best in my 2005 DRW CREW for towing. Edit: Of course using an SCT tuner.
@@six0bros exhaust brake has it's own on/off switch and is adjustable from full down. Then when you select Tow/haul forget about brake pads wearing out. It slows you right down to a crawl when approaching a stop sign. Really impressive. But enough about that thing!

there are a few guys hung up on them but for the 6.0 man not worth it. they were really more a 6.4 and 6.7 tuner and even in those platforms they are no longer in use.
Nice, I have a 06 f350 and a 15 f250, were practically brothers
That is funny. About as close as you can get to the same trucks
@@six0bros hahaha
When you had your 6.0 rebuilt did you bore it over? And if you did where did you get your rebuild kit from
I did not have it bored over. I kept the same rings and pistons also the same rods. I think this may be part of my current issue with the truck. As for rebuild kits. I know kill devil diesel does sell rebuild kits and this is who I would order from
so can the tuner damage your FICM. If it is an older truck?
It shouldn't damage your ficm at least not in my experience
Can I run an edge insight cts 2 with a set x4? I already have an edge cts2 and want to run an x4 fir tuning. My excursion is fully bulletproofed and deleted
Just making sure did you see my answer in your other comment? If not I can get you links again but the short answer is yes you can
Hey buddy, I've got a couple of questions for you.
Is the cts2 better to run with the sct x4 or is the cts3 a better monitor to run with the sct x4?
Either will be really good. I have not gotten my hands on a cts 3 yet, but I do hear they are really good. I would say that honestly which ever you get the best deal is your best bet. The cts 2 is really good, but my understanding is the CTS 3 is better.
Here are some affiliate links the cts 2 I found for $15 cheaper amzn.to/2XobbHs
CTS 3 is here amzn.to/2XmBy0f
I personally would go to cts3
Thanks for all your vids I appreciate the info! I have an edge CTS2 monitor, if I was was to get an SCT to TUNE, how the heck would I combine those two together (physically)? I have read people can use those in conjuction with each with great success, is there some sort of OBD coupler?
so when you use the sct tuner you only have it plugged in temporarily. So it is plugged in and as soon as the tune is done you unplug it and you're done. plug your edge back in and you're good to go

@@six0bros Thanks!
anytime!
Thanks I've been trying to figure this out myself!
I use sct live wire ts and was wonder what the best way to tune mph shift points on trans tuning section
I unfortunately am not familiar with that, and I would be careful with shift points and stuff. I would contact the tune writer for advice.
Any experience with the banks six pack with iq?
The main reason I do not recommend a device like that on a 6.0 has to do with transmission tuning. Mainly the lack there of and people tend to sotf with that and without letting the transmission relearn it can be a little hard on parts. I would highly recommend switching to an sct device for tuning.
@@six0bros Thanks for the input man, I appreciate it!
Anytime man. Hit me up if I can help.
Is the BDX a newer version of the x4, or is it completely different?
I am not 100% sure. I think it is an upgraded version of it with monitoring features. I can double check though and I'll update you
Dude, a great source for 6.0 info. like the new efforts in your videos too. Thanks for sharing the knowledge.
I'm going to look into php for that.
Hello
I need a reccomendation, I have 2006 6.0
I struggle towing my toy hauler. I do have work done to it. It really struggles on all hills. I'm doing 35 to 45 miles per hour. Really frustrating. What tune or mods are reccomended for this issue. Any help will be much appreciated. I do have the set live programmer.
Thank you
So to start helping I need to know a few things. First model 259, 350, dually? Tire size factory axle gears? How heavy is your toy hauler? Any upgrades over factory and do you have a monitoring solution for your truck?
@@six0bros thank you for response
Factory axles
Not a dually
Head studs
Bomb proof
Exhaust 3.5 to 5
Cold intake
Live wire sct
Bigger injectors
Egr delete
8inch lift king shocks with coil overs
Bigger turbo
I hope thar helps
12500 gvwr
1250 tongue weight
Sorry 1140 tongue weight
What size tire you running with that lift
Simple question....
Can I set a governor with the tuner?
Example: if I don’t want my truck to go over 80 M.P.H can I set the governor to do that?
With sct yes you can. When uploading a tune you can go j to additional options and set a limit for speed
6.0 Bros Thank you for the quick response!

Anytime man.... wait a second you weren't subscribed lol. Just kidding man. You have been around the 6.0 stuff on the channel for a while though if I remember correctly. Thank you for the support man. I try really hard to get back to as many people as possible. I do fall short sometimes but I do try! I am far from done with 6.0 stuff on the channel just saving up for the next part of the build!
I'm going to look into it right now. I was not aware of there being any issues with it. Let me check now
Wheres the list of custom tuners?? Thabsl
New to the diesel world... Getting a 6.0 soon wondering where to get custom tunes
@@six0bros that's what I was hoping for, just a cleaning operation out of the ficm not really after power from a ficm tune
Yea you got it. It will provide a slight increase but main reason for it eith ecm tuning is really refinement of its programming
Thanks for the help I need it here in NC thanks alot
No problem. If you ever have questions just let me know

it is the same message from the get-go and tried 3 times to return to stock but no luck.
however, my radio, windows, security, dashboard all works fine, no crank.
many thanks guys.
How old are your batteries? Did your voltage come back up after glow plugs and fuel pump shut off?
And no problem man. It is what I am here for.
@@six0bros so the SCT LIVEWIRE I'll gain a little more power on extreme my truck is violent fast ...just smoked a lbz and a stageb2 sti on the highway
@@six0bros but the edge doesn't hold custom tunes...the SCT does....and imo custom tunes are so important due to elevation and set up
It sucks the edge doesnt have custom tunes! The sct with custom tunes are insane!
What about H&S ??
I don't know much about them other than at one point they were at the top with the 6.4 but I truly know very little about them today and if they are still relevant
I just got a 2006 6.0 with only 133000 on it. Sucks when I bought it 2 months ago..life was different.. lol.. now it’s gotten more issues. About to drop $6000-7000 finishing the bulletproof. . May end up about 10 with the ficm and new turbo.. when I got it.. it was 3000 now HOLY SHITFIRE!!!
Wjat all needed done to it? What are the issues you have had
Using the same tuner on my 6.0
Works great I do love them. Wish they uploaded a tad faster though lol
Here is an affiliate link to what I recommend and if you need any other links let me know happy to get them for you and thanks for your support on the channel

Awesome thank you! I will re watch the video to see which tunes to get:)
Since I can’t find Windrunner. Which tunes would you prefer?
I have had a hard time finding him as well. I am sponsored by blessed performance and he has tunes that have some similar characteristics. Use affiliate code six0bros for 10% off his tuning. Now some companies I'm not associated with that do great jobs would be truck source diesel and Warren diesel. Once the new build on my 6.0 is up I plan to do very thorough reviews of all these companies and their tunes
What’s your take on bullydog gt tuners for these trucks? Is it true that they don’t completely erase off your pcm?
@@six0bros I looked to find how to adjust it and there is only normal shift and firm shift that I found. I’m still trying to find the throttle sensitivity setting lol
I wish I could help with that but I know very little about the bully dog stuff as a whole especially the gt tuners
And I saw you went live but I missed it what size injectors are you using
I am running Warren premiums 175/stock injectors so far have had great luck with them

A tuner? I may have one I could sell if you are close to lancaster pa area?

I am glad you like it man. The FTC looks cool I gotta say that, but the live wire is nice too. I wonder why it wont work. They never got back to me about it.
Gearheads tuning was my go to. But the Innovative Diesel Tow tune with the full exhaust brake feature has been the best in my 2005 DRW CREW for towing.
Edit: Of course using an SCT tuner.
