Dr. Feelgood (Rat-tailed Jimmy) is definitely a drug dealer who "deals out in Hollywood." Janet Jackson heard this song and thought it rocked, but also thought it was funky. Feeling inspired, she wrote "Black Cat" some time later.

Years ago Nikki.Sixx said Motleys music isnt dance music, but.you can dance to it
Dr.Feelgood was a testament to the Crue cleaning up, getting a acclaimed producer
In the studio and really pushing all 4 guys
    To create a solid album.
I saw this tour with Warrant opening.
It still.to.this day visually was the best tour I.ever saw. And the band was killing it on.all cylinders.
This song has aged well. It still sounds monstrous today.

One of the best bands I saw in concert back in the 80's. They were GREAT! Vince ran from speaker stack to stack all across the stage the whole concert. He got people into the concert. I think he pointed at every person in the arena!

Mick Mars is such an amazing guitarist, and nobody ever talks about him the way they do the rest of the band.
Side note, a guy I used to work with said he used to live in Dallas and knew of a drug dealer who used to call himself Dr. Feelgood, lol.. its a good name so I bet there's a lot of them out there.

My memory of growing up with this era and these bands, the girls top bands were:
1 - Bon Jovi (Living on a Prayer, You Give Love a Bad Name, I'll Be There for You, Bad Medicine)
2 - Def Leppard (Pour Some Sugar on Me, Armageddon It, Hysteria, Love Bites)
3 - Poison (Nothing But a Good Time, Every Rose Has Its Thorn, Ride The Wind)
4 - Motley Crue (Dr. Feelgood, Home Sweet Home, Kickstart My Heart, Wild Side)
5 - Van Halen (guys preferred David Lee Roth, and girls seemed to prefer Sammy Hagar era) (How Will I Know When Its Love, Runaround, Right Now)
6 - Cinderella (Dont Know What you Got, Last Mile, Somebody Save Me, Shake Me, Gypsy Road)
7 - Whitesnake (Here I go Again, Is this Love)
They also loved Winger - but we won't mention that! lol
And one very strong mention because its more the actual hit song and video than the band: "The Flame" by Cheap Trick. Girls LOVED this song! They went crazy over this ballad.

OF course during the Duran Duran craze, there was also a lot of love for Journey and similar bands (Loverboy, Foreigner) who I remember girls were over the moon for Steve Perry (with good reason).

I was fortunate to be a teenager when these Motley Crue songs came out and was also fortunate to see them in many concerts. Dr Feelgood like many of their songs came from either the life they lived, people they knew or the experiences they had. This song is about a drug dealer they knew and was busted. Wild Side them living in LA together before they became big, Kick start my heart Nikki drug overdose and bringing back to life. The one song that is from their experiences that was meant to be a song for men actually back in the day became a huge hit for the female crowd. Not sure why but women and girls went crazy to this song. Believe me being 13 years old at a concert this song being played and watching the girls. A boys dream come true. Anyway, check out girls girls girls. If you haven’t already

Hey there. Love your reaction to Mötley Crües Dr Feelgood. I've been a fan since the 80,s and absolutte love these guys.
A little history for you..Being addicts for years..well on several drugs, Mötley was all sober while making this album Dr Feelgood in Canada in a little town out in nowhere. The album went straight to number 1 on the charts. Before that the bassplayer Nikki Sixx overdose in 1987 on heroin and was dead for several minuts. At the time they were suppose to go on the Girls Girls Girls tour to Europe, but their management refused to do it. And all the tour was cancelled. So they all went in rehab, made the Dr Feelgood album and it went to number 1. You see some of it in the movie "The Dirt" but the book is even better and more detailed.
You should react to "Primal Scream " next from 1990. It's amazing.

As a fan that got into rock music in the early 90's... I recall the ladies loved the 'glam' side of rock - Motley Crue, Poison, Guns N' Roses, Great White, Slaughter, L.A. Guns, Kiss, Whitesnake, Scorpions, Def Leppard, Europe, Van Halen, Bon Jovi ...
The guys did love Guns N' Roses and Motley Crue, but we were more into Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer, Megadeth, Sepultura, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Accept, Queensryche, Dio, AC/DC ...
Of course after Nirvana broke big in 1992, the ladies got into Nirvana & Pearl Jam... then Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Soul Asylum, Rage Against the Machine, Tool, etc...
