I used my previous gen apple watch without apple care for 3.5 years. I think it is over rated and not really necessary if one think they can take overall good care with how they use their gadget. but if its to be subjected to rough use, only then its worth to consider it. From personal experience, Apple care is of not much use with how I use my watch. Hope this helps
