I have a Gigabyte AX370 motherboard that I bought with my old Ryzen 5 1500X (1st gen) and now I'm using it with my current Ryzen 5 5600X (3rd gen). In some cases the concept of "futureproofing" is really worth it.

on amd side yes i agree also that there is future proofing, since their mobos support for more generations than intel, i currently got my self got a b650 and gonna be upgrading my cpu when the last gen comes for it. i would've gone for intel but if i bought the newest gen i couldn't have upgraded it anymore so it thats why i didnt buy it.

Didn't have to go that high-end tbh, my B350 still supports a 5800X3D. Honestly, AMD has been really good value for the past half a decade.

AMD changes their motherboard far less frequently compared to Intel, so kinda a different story in that regard. But I personally would not spend more on a part only in view of future proofing.

what about getting 32 gigs of ddr5 instead of 16? still tecnically future proofing, or using amd which changes the sockets far rarer or even technically getting 1tb ssd instead of 120gb since thats still future proofing (buying more now so you dont have to upgrade later) or better basically anything would apply here. You chose the one instance where futureproofing doesn't make sense and are now claiming that the whole consept is a lie :/

Unless you're running DCS in which case 32 GB and 1TB SSD are shortcanging yourself.
Especially given how cheap 2TB NVME SSDs are. And given that it, and tons of other games continue to grow each patch......
And yesh DCS can really use the 64gb of RAM.
For DCS that's necessary, for most other games it's future proofing.

Thats correct. That's why we mentioned 'for certain parts only' within the description and thumbnails :D

well future proofing can also mean I want more PCIE lanes or SATA ports to install more storage drives as they fill up

For me future proofing is able to play games to mid-ultra at 60 FPS settings in the next 5-7 years and only upgrade when needs be ( when performance to current and new is worth it). 5%-10% performance inscrease not worth it.

I think the only reasonable future proof purchase is ddr5, as any upgrade on 2+ years will requiere ddr5, specially if the prices are gonna go even lower

"may"? i thought it was a settled argument that "futureproofing" is just a buzzword
